Have you ever shit your pants and been proud of it? Me neither. (Looks both ways) But if I did, I'd want it to be at Atomic Athlete - fighting my way through the ascent of a new all-time personal record back squat. Red-faced, with bloodshot eyes, and a barbell on my back clad with 10 plates. I imagine it'd be one of my proudest moments of my training career. . . . Involuntary BMs aside . . . If you're looking to set some new personal records of your own (or just looking for a great community to train with) - these guys have what it takes to get you where you want to go (and far beyond). Whether you're a competitive cyclist, back-country hunter, martial artist, powerlifter, trail runner, warfighter, or just a normal guy or gal who fancies mimosas on the weekends (and sometimes Friday mornings) . . . If you train with Atomic Athlete and adhere to the programming, you WILL hit personal records. Over and over and over and over and over again (in the words of Marshawn Lynch). All jokes aside. I love this place. I love the programming. I love the community that it's created. And I love the guys that created it and made the rest possible. They are some of the sharpest in the industry. They apply the scientific method to their programming. And they have the humility to challenge themselves and evaluate what works and what doesn't. They're hella kind and fun too. If you're reading this, intrigued, I encourage you come over to Atomic Athlete to check it out.

This gym has been my home away from home for 3 years. I joined after months of pleasantly persistent "it'll be fun to do together" nudges from my boyfriend and I'm glad I gave in. I've always been fit but also pretty stubborn. I was happy with my body, but my mental fitness was MIA. The coaches have constantly pushed me and I've never been more proud of my abilities. Granted, there are still days I show up and get my ass kicked because I'm not eating/ sleeping/ feel depressed/ my shoulders hurt, etc; those are the days that make you. Leave your ego at the door, everyone suffers together...suffers HARD. But it's an amazing feeling- no feeling sorry for yourself. It's training, not working out. There are 4-6 week cycles that focus on improving different areas (your strength, stamina, or work capacity); every session has a purpose. That's the answer to WHY do I need to do this? To be stronger, faster, harder to kill!

Awesome space with plenty of room for "activities"

People walking around shirtless, dripping sweat, stinking, in bare feet, only socks, crocs, and Teva sandles. Nasty. Old dilapidated and low quality dumbbells, only 2 old treadmills and a few of the manual treadmills, no fixed weight barbells, a bathroom falling apart with the toilet bowl cover hanging on by one hinge. No air conditioning. Hot and smelly. Humid atmosphere. Couldn't draw up a worse gym in my imagination. To me it's 1 star but I guess to cross fit cultists this is what they like. Only a few smoothie choices and no chicken wraps or anything in their nutrition bar or whatever it's called. If you know how to work out and don't need or want a trainer or group then this place is definitely not for you. They do an incredible job on marketing and must edit photos or take superb angles like a catfish on tinder. Almost thinking they pay influencers to hype this place up. Either way I'd prefer the most basic Planet Fitness or Crunch 100x over this. In fact I'd rather get chubby and not work out over having to work out in an environment like this again.

There is nothing that puts you into a Zen state like doing Matt Pilates. So off I went to LA…read moreFitness - South Lamar as a part of my New Year's Eve fitness regiment. For those who may not be familiar with Matt Pilates, it is a low-impact, floor-based exercise using the equivalent of a Yoga matt. It focuses on core strength, posture, flexibility, and controlled breathing. Matt Pilates differs from Reformer Pilates, which uses spring-loaded machines aka as reformers. Matt Pilates relies on your body weight and gravity for resistance. Most big box gyms offers Matt pilates, whereas Reformer Pilates usually occur at Pilates studios or higher end gym locations. A Pilates Reformer can easily cost $200-$250+ per month. Many movie stars like Gwenth Paltrow and Dakota Johnson swear by Reformer Pilates. I have only done a trial membership with Reformer Pilates. Matt Pilates is very affordable and usually included in your gym membership, making it cost-effective. After my Matt Pilates class I was so Zen, I felt like taking a nap. However, after hitting the ignition key, I left my Zen state.

Not sure why it's so hard to fix things. The cable machine has been broken well over 50 days. And counting. Also, the people who open the club on the weekends are consistently late. In fact, I'm writing this on the parking lot waiting for the gym to open - should have opened 10 minutes ago. A few weeks ago someone strolled in around 8:17 when it should have opened at 8. This started out so promising. What happened?

I just came on a day pass and was compelled to write a review based on how easy it was to check out…read morewithout getting hard sold into a membership like what I experienced at LA Fitness down the street. First off, I had an Austin address which is required for the day pass. Secondly, I entered basic info and signed the waiver. I didn't have to then meet with a sales rep who would used high pressure sales tactics (scarcity, urgency, blah blah) to enjoy jt workout (unlike my LA Fitness experience). The gym would either sell itself or it wouldn't. Tomas at the front desk was very warm and personable, a very refreshing exchange. As for the gym itself, I like the layout, but it's definitely outdated. I'm going with a gym closer to me that is higher end, but I recommend using the day pass (if you're an Austin resident) to see if it's a good fit for you or not.

The place isn't fancy, the medium-hard sell on personalized training is annoying but avoidable, but overall, it's a decent place. Most patrons are there to exercise rather than sit on a machine and smartphone away, and a good 85% of them exercise good gym courtesy.
