I can't say enough great things about this gym!! It is the first time in my life that I look forward to working out!! Super inclusive and accommodating to all fitness leveled and abilities. Every class is unique. The instructors are amazing and provide great feedback but keep everything entertaining as well. But don't get me wrong, you will get a great workout and great self defense skills at the same time!!

I've been attending Krav Maga classes at Fit & Fearless for 2 months now and I'm loving it! I'm not an aggressive person. I've never learned any type of martial art in the past. Hell, I've never been in a real fight! Yet, I find myself looking forward to coming back each week. The instructors are intense and push you to perform each move with proper form. The classes are an hour long and start with a frantic warm up much like a HIIT workout crammed in to 15-20 minutes. From there, you go in to the day's combative (striking) techniques and eventually string several techniques together in a drill where speed, power and aggression come to the forefront. The end of the class is usually spent learning defensive techniques that would ultimately end with the combatives you practiced earlier. In class it's encouraged that you grunt, yell, be attentive to your surroundings and be aggressive. I initially found this to be awkward as I'm a relatively quiet person, but honestly it really helps to get over that hump and just immerse yourself in the situation. You will leave class with bumps and bruises.. cuts on your hands... bruised and swollen knuckles. You might even have an errant strike land on your face, chest, arms, groin etc. Clearly that's not fun, but how the hell are you supposed to be successful in a fight if you don't know what it feels like to be in one? I highly suggest you come by and take a free class to see what it's all about. It just took one class for me be keen enough to sign up for a membership.

I dropped in to train at The Void mid December and had a great experience from start to finish. One…read moreof the ladies training there (the amazing Lex) actually beat me at a jiu jitsu tournament. We hit it off while competing and became friends through that experience, which says a lot about the kind of supportive, women-forward culture that exists at The Void. When I shared that I was looking for a new school, she invited me to come try out. On my first day, Mars (the owner) gave me a full walkthrough of the facility. The school is located inside a larger facility that includes showers, a full workout gym, a sauna, and more. The fact that The Void members have access to all of these amenities honestly blew my mind. All of the perks, along with the schedule and membership details, are clearly laid out on their website. I also really appreciated that there is no contract and that pricing is very affordable, especially for downtown Austin. I tried MMA sparring, jiu jitsu, and kickboxing. Jiu jitsu is primarily no gi, but you can bring a gi if you want. Every coach I interacted with was knowledgeable, respectful, and patient. Any time I had concerns around safety or technique, they listened and offered modifications when needed. As a woman training in combat sports, this made me feel genuinely respected and well taken care of. On the MMA and kickboxing side, it's worth noting that they have heavy bags in house. The kickboxing classes (led by Christian) also had a strong women presence which I loved. There is no uniform requirement for any of the classes, so you have a lot of flexibility with what to wear. I recommend wearing comfortable clothing and bringing gloves and shin pads if it's your first time. They also have a in house videographer and photographer who captures amazing photos and videos. You can check out his work on Instagram at @donpablo.arw !! I live up north in the suburbs about 30 to 40 minutes away so if it were not for the distance, I would have signed up in a heartbeat. I made a lot of friends in the short time I spent at The Void, and that really speaks to the training environment and culture they have built. The location itself is great with plenty of parking. There is cold water available, a vending machine nearby, and very clean bathrooms. Mars was communicative, and since I tried out during a weird time with the holidays, I was especially grateful for their generosity in allowing me to train through the end of the month. The Void also hosts free community events, such as the upcoming Couple's Self Defense Date Night. All of their information can be found on their website or Instagram at @thevoidmartialarts. I highly recommend The Void to anyone interested in jiu jitsu or MMA in the downtown Austin area!

Once you do, assuming you're motivated to make a change in your life, you'll most definitely become hooked. The facility and equipment (free weights, treadmills, TRX, Infrared Sauna, bio-metrics reader etc.) are top-notch, the training staff is excellent, and the classes are great. For the classes, the staff certainly wants to help you see results, but you do train at your own pace. Which is a good thing because with like CrossFit (which I've done) workouts turn into competitions and competition lead to injury, Fit Austin is self paced. Ultimately, you're only competition is yourself and what you decide to put into it. Special shout out to Lane, who always brings the energy + excellent WODs to the table. Do yourself a favor, drop the gym membership that you rarely use and when you do you just got through the motions. Instead get into see the crew at Fit Austin where you might pay more but you'll absolutely get more out of it. Thanks Fit Austin!

The workouts are tough but the best thing is that they are ALWAYS different. It's never the same boring old routine. They recently got an infrared sauna too! Their class times align to people who work long hours in addition to people who don't work as you can attend the 6am or 7am classes ( that's where I'm at ) or the 12pm or 5:30pm classes. I enjoy this class so much more then I ever enjoyed Barre, Yoga or CrossFit. It's just a true combination of everything and that makes it so much more doable as it never gets boring. Random body parts are always sore. They also always provide alternatives if you have an injury. The class is super diverse. People of ALL ages and ALL weights. It's refreshing. You're not intimated but you're also motivated. Personal tip: If Lateef doesn't immediately respond to your email just email again. He's an actual owner hustler as he teaches so many of his classes and does a lot of personal training and he doesn't have an assistant so he juggles it all on his own. Fit Austin is totally worth it so don't get upset just send a follow up and he will respond. It's worth it!!!!

I've been severely out of shape since Covid because the gyms shut down, and I didn't feel safe going into a gym once they did open up. I was at my absolute heaviest weight I'd ever been, and getting back into shape seemed daunting. With Olivier's help, I am now building muscle, upping my cardio, and shedding weight. He focused on technique above power, which was really important to me because I came in knowing absolutely nothing and of course I don't want to get injured. Now if anyone were to put me in a threatening position, I know I can knee them in the head, teep them, and/or give them a nice punch to the liver. I feel more confident in my abilities, and I feel like I have a healthier, better body.
