Everyone is super friendly, from the front desk to the instructors to the fellow students. I am thankful every day for Knockout. I am physically stronger than I have ever been in my life, but it is not just physical, there are a lot of mental benefits too. I booked a private session before my first group class so I would understand the moves a bit as I had zero kickboxing experience, and did not want to feel lost in a class. It was definitely worth it. All the instructors are helpful if you have questions about form. Practice makes perfect and sometimes it takes a minute for you to fully understand what you doing. My friends and I tried out Kickboxing for the very first time this week through their 7 classes in 7 days challenge - and we are LOVING it. The classes are meant for all levels as the instructors will go over the basic techniques at the start of class or beginning of each combo. But they do jump straight into the work out since it is a 45 minute class so if you're new to kickboxing, it might feel a bit crazy at first if you don't have prior experience. Each class has elements of boxing or kickboxing along with strength training exercises (lots of focus on core)! For your first class, glove rentals are free & the wraps are $10 to keep. For every class following, rentals are around $3. I honestly would just recommend buying gloves if you are planning on sticking with boxing. Class experience also varies based on instructor since they have different vibes. My friends and I really like David and Brandon's class. - David is really upbeat with great music taste (very on trend and with a good amount of throwbacks) and he's really good with engaging with all the members in the room. Lots of encouragement to yell back to hype up the energy and he will come up and push you if you start to lose steam. He has a very lighthearted humor that gets a good laugh out of you especially when you're feeling the burn. I started to slack a little and he was like "BETTER NOT PUT THOSE LEGS DOWN WHEN I TURN BACK!" - Brandon is really thorough when it comes to technique and the energy is very focused and dynamic. After attending his class, my friends and I had an "aha!" moment on our kick forms and punches which we really appreciated since we were beginners. I also liked how he checked in on us after the class to see how things were going and how we were feeling as it shows a level of thought and care. His energy is also great for a morning class. The only thing that I would want more of as someone that is just starting is more focus or feedback on technique. I think as a beginner, we don't have the established knowledge or experience on whether or not our forms are correct. The classes are marketed as friendly for all levels and I think to an extent it is (depending on the instructor). I think the first class that my friends and I ever took, we were really lost since that instructor did not spend time on form or technique before just going straight into it. The other component is instructor visibility, some are really good at going around the room to show the moves while others stay in one place. So depending on your luck with bag sign ups, it may be harder/easier to see the instructor at times. Overall, I love the staff members, they are super friendly and responds very fast to inquiries on social media and in person. The energy in the room is INSANELY positive and I love the whole night club all out ambiance that they have going on. This was a great introduction to kickboxing! read more

I was looking for a new kickboxing gym so I purchased the introduction pack of 3 classes. The atmosphere is similar to modern group fitness classes (like a soul cycle): dark room with red and violet lights and EDM music. Not exactly my style but it was fine. The trainer was great, very energetic and would walk around and give tips on how to improve your form. The class was intense and a great workout. All levels can definitely do the class, beginners just may need to modify the moves or take it slow. read more

I have my own set of boxing gloves and wraps (yeah, I'm fitness accessory name dropping), so I've been around a bag or two in my day. I like the energy in the dark, club-like room and I like that the combos are easy enough for a first timer but still a great workout for someone who has a bit more experience in/around a ring. This is clearly more of a workout-oriented class than a learn technique one, but that's why I like it. It goes by really fast and the sequence of warm up, combos, and sit ups is pretty consistent but the instructor switches up the moves each time, so it's not stagnant. Free parking, a shower, and a couple of bathrooms round out the amenities. read more

Let me tell you- I am HOOKED to this place... i have gone to this kickboxing center over the last 6 months and each class is amazing! The music is fantastic, the instructors are energetic, engaging and really help break down form to ensure you get the most out of your experience. They're all different with their styles and technique but all wonderful nonetheless. The starter package of 3 classes is awesome, but you'll quickly want to sign up for more. They give you a set of wraps for you to keep for a one time small fee, but will have to pay for renting gloves each class if you need them (also a small fee), or can bring your own. I tried kickboxing for the first time ever at KNOCKOUT last Thursday. I was a little nervous but the staff was so welcoming as soon as I arrived. They looked at my hands to size my wraps and gloves. They gave me a rundown of where everything was and what I needed to do in preparation for class. Note that there is a a parking lot available and lockers available on site. Before class, you are already assigned your bag number. If you are new, the instructor goes over basics with you before class starts. I love that it is dim in the studio and the music is pumping and upbeat. You stay moving all class and you focus on you and not on anyone else. I worked up a bit sweat by the end of class! The only criticism I have is the fact that it is hard to see the instructor. I wish that he was situated up front at an elevated level for all to see. Otherwise, this was a super positive experience and I'd love to go again sometime if I get the chance. read more

I have had a membership for about 3 months to Knockout. I feel confident giving it a 5 star rating for a variety of reasons. One, is they have multiple teachers and time slots to allow you to get a workout in. All the instructors have differences and strengths and I would be surprised if you don't find a couple times of the month and instructors that you really enjoy consistently working out with. The workout itself is great. You will leave feeling athletic, you will be sweaty, and there also is attention to the beach Muscles like arms and core that everyone enjoys being worked. Lastly, it's a very respectful and fun environment. All levels of boxer/athlete/fitness level come to classes and there is no judgment among customers and the instructors do a great job both managing a group and giving quick 1 on 1 tips when necessary. I definitely recommend trying a membership or if you have class pass doing one off classes. read more

My hands are still shaking from the 9:30am class this morning with Di. I had never taken a kickboxing class before and was a bit nervous but I quickly realized NO ONE in the class is looking at you or judging you in any negative way. Thank goodness the class is only 45 minutes! They give you padded wraps for your hands to keep which I think is fantastic! Then you just rent the gloves for $1 each time you go for another class (first time is free). A girl in San Antonio told me about this kickboxing class and was right to rave about it. In late August I took a kickboxing class in NYC and was instantly hooked. After heading back to Austin I sought out a similar style class and Knockout came highly recommended. Their tagline is Grits Guts and Glory and you will indeed experience this taking a KO class. The fast paced class consists of high energy warm up, squats squats squats, shadow boxing, kickboxing and killer core work. The studio has 24 - 150 pound bags that you can book online. I took kickboxing classes YEARS ago when I lived back home in Louisiana. I've also taken several classes around Austin here and there, which seem to be alike. I was referred to by a friend to join her in David Garza's class on Sunday, 9/9. WHOA...Mind blown! The energy was amazing! David was more than motivating and energetic. I felt the sweat slinging off of me, but I enjoyed myself so much that it didn't feel like a brutal workout. Let's not forget about David's awesome music selection! I also like the black lights in the room and the fact that the punching bag is mounted to the ground. I was able to put more work in, because I wasn't spending a lot of time trying to get the bag to stop swinging. This place is highly recommended by me and I'll definitely be back! read more

So much fun - I was a TOTAL kickboxing newbie (and although pretty fit have famously terrible coordination so It was not without trepidation I signed up for a session..!) but Jessica's 45 minute class flew by. Really well paced - I felt constantly challenged but not overwhelmed - I loved that I had my own workout space and so didn't need to worry about crashing in to anyone (or being hit). I loved the ab session mid workout. Ouch. Studio a little bit of a weird spot to find the first time - I was grateful I was meeting a friend who knew her stuff - definitely give yourself an extra 5 mins to locate it. But once you're in it's clean and friendly - and glove hire is free the first session. I can see why people get hooked on this - it's completely different to my usual running / weights / Pilates - looking forwards to trying a few other classes. read more

Long story short - I am OBSESSED. From Brandon to David to Morgan to Rich to Ramona, each of the instructors are knowledgeable and engage you in class. They all bring their own styles, but give you a tiring workout that will have you ready to fight like Muhammad Ali or climb Mount Everest. I made my first trip to Knockout yesterday. Originally I was going to just go check out the studio, but I thought what the hell: the class is really affordable at $22 and it's only 45 minutes... let's commit! Their online booking was super easy and I reserved a bag in just minutes. I'm so glad I committed. By the time I got there to the time I left, I was so impressed with the workout I got and the positive atmosphere! Megan, the instructor, pushed everyone to their individual limits while telling us to pay attention to what our bodies needed; and that it wasn't a race or competition with your neighbor, it was about us and what we needed. Those words made a huge difference for me as a first timer/very out of shape person, and I got a lot out of the class. I was a little nervous about others seeing how I couldn't remember combos or would judge my form, but everyone else was so focused on their own thing and the low-lighting really helped my focus too. By the end of class I felt so much more confident with punchin', kickin', and just generally where I can go from here. My thighs and shoulders hurt so much today, but it feels like great self-improvement. I'm so excited to go back this weekend that I'll definitely be practicing my form this week! read more

I've struggled my entire life with exercising-- I have never enjoyed it. I've found things before that I could tolerate, but nothing I loved. I went to Knockout a few weeks ago for a class with my company and it was truly the most fun I've ever had exercising. I've been back several times for classes. I feel like I could do this everyday and never get tired of it. Jennie is a great instructor and is so motivating! I'm sure all of the instructors are great, but Jennie's classes seem to fit into my schedule the best. I love the dark room where I don't feel so self-conscious and everyone here is so kind and encouraging. Highly recommend trying this if you're like me and have struggled! Another benefit-- I suffer from anxiety and leave every class feeling 100% worry-free. I get to leave all of my worries there in that room. I never thought I'd say my favorite day of the week was Tuesday until I discovered Megan's 6 am class. Love, love, love this place! I came here at the suggestion of a friend (Velma). Yes, I have only taken 1 class thus far but I am already booked for 2 more. Jennie B's hip-hop class is so much fun, and truly a workout. I prefer Knockout to most other kickboxing studios in the city because here it's just you vs the bag. No stupid partner work. I'm not "really" trying to fight people in these streets. i just want to get rid of some stress and hit/kick the bag really hard. Your gloves and wraps are free the first class and you get to keep the wraps. Glove rental $1 thereafter. The place is clean, spotless and there are plenty of lockers. Everyone from the front desk to the others in the class are super nice and motivating. Looking forward to coming regularly. read more

Having never kick-boxed before, I trusted my friend Megan as an AMAZING group fitness instructor and signed up on a whim. Let me preface my next statement with the fact that I am incredibly in shape, no novice here. Knockout kicked my ass. Megan should have a good medal in fitness instructing. She could viably kill an Olympic athlete. David has the unique ability of nurturing every single clients soul while making them physically and emotionally stronger. Matt can make anyone feel like one day, they too, will be a UFC fighter. Jennie is the personification of all that is good in the world. This is a special place. Do not expect to be coddled physically, however. This is intense and should be looked at as a training session rather than an ordinary "workout." Joining will change your life. read more

I have been boxing consistently for 3 years and recently moved to Austin. I tried a few Knockout classes, along with every other boxing class I could find in the city in efforts to try and keep up my skill, but I left Knockout beyond discouraged. I am not confident that any of the instructors actually know how to box. There is far more to the sport than being able to decipher a 1-jab from a 2-cross. The class does not involve any combinations more complex than a 1-2-3, and I would not advise that Knockout even attempt to teach anything more complex until their instructors can learn what they are doing. Someone is going to end up very hurt if they actually try to put any strength behind a punch with the lack of instruction and attention to form provided at Knockout. Don't even get me started on the footwork--or lack thereof--that is taught. Oy vey. read more

I'm so glad we have this awesome studio in our neighborhood now! I had tried kickboxing before in DC and didn't like it so I was hesitant but Knockout totally changed my mind. The full body workouts are a perfect supplement to spinning and running, and anyone can do it! The instructors are so welcoming and encouraging, and make you feel like a badass no matter how many times you've done it! Megan and Di are my favorite instructors... they both inspire me to believe in myself, push myself and be happy with the body I have. Knockout was my first time ever doing kickboxing, but I won't ever go to another studio. I've been going to Knockout for a couple months now, and since my first class with David, I can't help but brag about how awesome it is. The workout kicks my a** every single time, and I know I can always expect to be sore after their classes. It is a great combo of kickboxing and cardio, and some killer circuits.
