I am a firm believer in second chances. Hence, we came back after a mediocre experience. The specialty is the rotisserie chicken. To fully check out the house speciality, we had the chicken au ju sandwich, chicken & biscuits, and the Wrightwood salad. None were better than what I could make cooking some Jewel chicken in my oven. Burger was also meh... Even the skillet cornbread and skillet cookie were not memorable. (And I am the #1 fan of gooey cookies and buttery cornbread!) Why is a place with sub-par food rated so highly? I'd guess 100% the atmosphere. Crosby's has a cozy feel, great service, and welcomes little ones with crayons. Plus, I can't blame folks for giving stars for cocktails in a mason jar, cookies that come in mini skillets, and the staff's gingham shirt uniforms. It is undoubtedly charming. And, like every place on Southport, kids are required. I would not recommend as a date spot. read more

I've got family in the area, and while I've spent a lot of time in Chicago, I've been in Denver for the last five years and it was very cool making it back to see how much has changed. This place could have very well been around more than five years, but this was my first time there. We went for brunch before a Cubs game, and it was hopping! It's got a great atmosphere, great service, the food and cocktails were excellent, and even though they were busy they easily accommodated our large party. As far as suggestions go, I'm just going to throw out most of the stuff I tried, because it was all legit! Start with a Bloody Mary, and then get some apps, the cornbread is to die for, and it's more of a desert, but so is the monkey bread. Also sneak a deviled egg in there if you can. Dropped by for brunch on Sunday , definitely a comfortable, family friendly place. All the service was great from host to server and relatively quick once we were seated. In terms of food, biscuits were awesome- warm, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside and served with maple butter. We also got the chicken hash and wrightwood salad, both of which had the rotisserie chicken that the place is supposed to be known for. Both items were fine, didn't really wow us. The chicken seemed kinda bland and a little dry, the hollandaise for the hash a little sweet. A truly delicious brunch place! This is a full restaurant with lunch, dinner, etc., but the brunch menu is awesome. They have a lot of unique and common foods choices. I would recommend a reservation for sure, if you don't want to wait. It is pretty crowded but that means it's popular. However, if you have to wait... it's worth it!!! Really good service too! Our table of four ordered: the Fried Egg Sandwich on Rye, the Lakeview Omelette and Corellia (something like that) Omelette. With the Lobster Deviled Eggs to start. One blood Mary, two mimosas, and 3 coffees. I ordered the Fried Egg Sandwich. It was very large in size, but incredibly delicious. It was served with the hashbrowns, which I had only heard GREAT THIS about, however, though they were good, I didn't think they were wonderful. I prefer my hashbrowns more crispy whereas these were more soft in texture and topped with some time if cream sauce (similar to Alfredo sauce). As other reviewers have stated, the restaurant has taken lots of precautions during COVID (sanitizer, virtual menus, outdoor seating, etc). We definitely felt safe the whole time. I love that kids eat free everyday from 4-6pm. I got My daughter the chicken legs kids meal and they were pretty good (a little lacking in flavor). I got the chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken was a little dry and needed salt. It does come with a broth that you're supposed to dip the chicken sandwich in, but the broth was bland as well. My friend got the burger and said it was great. We shared the corn bread. It was pretty good, definitely not traditional southern cornbread but tasty nonetheless. We also got the black margaritas. They were yummy but not very strong. For the service, I give 5 stars. Our server was attentive and patient. Overall, I would be willing to go back and try something else on the menu. read more

The place was packed both inside and outside but we were never void of excellent service. Ordered calamari as a starter for $12.00 and when it came to the table I was shocked. I asked the server to confirm the price, which he did, and I said to him that I did not want the calamari as I am not going to pay that price for such a small serving. He apologized, the manager came and apologized, the server again apologized and offered the calamari to us for free. I said thank you but we don't want it. If I send something back I don't want something for free, as I hate to be thought of one of those people who try to get food for free. My friend raved about the potato cakes, he said the salmon was good. I had the rotisserie chicken and the breast was a tad dry but the thighs were amazing. If I would have ordered 10 chicken thighs I would have eaten all of them. When the bill arrived the calamari wasn't taken off the bill. We were touring Southport and discovered a wonderful smell in the air. We find the source and stopped in for a bite. We were seated very quickly at a booth by the window. Staff was very friendly. I ordered an IPA that was fine, but my wife ordered a glass of sangria that was amazing. We love to share our food so we ordered a rotisserie chicken salad and 3 filet sliders with blue cheese and sauteed onions and an order of fries. To start, I love Crosby's Kitchen and have ordered many times since we've been locked down. Today, I was very disappointed when I received my order of the Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad w/chicken. (My favorite). I asked for extra dressing - no extra dressing. The salad was packaged weirdly with chicken and au jus in a side compartment so it made the salad difficult to eat from the container without sloshing juice all over. When I moved the salad to a plate, I found it was composed of over 50% arugula. It's a Brussels sprout salad. I'd probably be okay with it, but I just spent $28 for a salad after delivery. and tip. I came back for lunch with a friend and my, my, my, how the tables have turned. It wasn't a particularly busy day at the restaurant, but our waiter was super friendly and patient with us as we kept getting too sidetracked from our menus to order the first few (maybe four) times he asked us. The lunch fair was miles above what I remember of brunch, but now I just may have to come back a bit earlier to re-try brunch and make sure I wasn't just in a hangry bad mood the first time I tired it. I don't get it man, I just don't. Everything was fine but the menu leaves something to be desired. I've gotten a turkey burger and a chicken dip (two different visits) and I wasn't WOWed either time. Not bad, just eh. Their fries however are pretty great and if I go back I'd have to have the fries with whatever I got. This a great family restaurant. I bring my son here often. The food is great especially the roasted chicken. It's very moist and seasoned. My son loves the atmosphere and the food. He's a picky eater but never has a problem finding something on the kid's menu. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait so I suggest reservations even during the day. I've passed by this place a few times as I live in the area, and have been meaning to try it. One night I gave it a go. I was alone, so I was looking for a table for one. Much to my surprise, there was a wait. I gave them my name and I was informed of a 35-40 minute wait for a table for one...I was stunned. I wasn't expecting this, so I hung out at the Amazon Books store down the street. I did not particularly enjoy having to wait, but I was eager to try the place. Pro tip: plan ahead - make reservations. Overall, the food was good and the speed in which I got my food was delightful as I was hungry from waiting. One note that I would make is that while I was a table of one, the wait staff skipped my table in their rounds as compared to the tables on the left and right of me. This happens often when I dine alone, so this is not particular to this place, but something worth the attention. Give this place a try if you're in the area. read more

I can't say enough good things about Crosby's. I've been here a bunch of times and have never been disappointed. It has great ambiance, indoor and outdoor seating, a great staff and the food is awesome. If you're going for brunch, which I highly recommend, you might have to wait a little bit for a table, but it's worth every minute. Besides, you can always wait for your table at the bar while sipping on a mimosa, specialty cocktail or any one of the many other spirits available. Everything I've ever had off their menu was delicious. My favorite meal of theirs is brunch, and I'd recommend the Fried Egg Sandwich, any one of the omlettes (especially the Lakeview) and the Lobster Deviled Eggs. And don't forget to try the Bloody Mary (with bacon!). I don't even like Bloody Mary's that much and theirs is delicious! A must try! read more

The food is always good. Love that they are so consistent. If you want to order take out, we would suggest that you avoid Grubhub with this one. The food was again made on time and outstanding however, our order left the restaurant and took over 30 mins to get to us (we live 1.7 miles a away). We watched as the Grubhub make multiple stops as we tracked. Our hamburgers and fries were cold and almost went right in the trash. Pick up yourself if you can. Came here for the first time on 10/12 to celebrate my mothers birthday. We waited over an hour for a table as we had a bigger party and this place was slammed. The food was delicious and everyone at the table loved their meal. They more than made up for the wait. For the birthday celebration they put a candle in the dessert and wished my mother a happy birthday. Very nice touch. The only reason this is a 4 star review is I could not find ANYWHERE that stated reservations are required or suggested. Nothing on their website. Nothing on opentable. NOTHING. I don't know if this is a huge oversight or they enjoy making people wait but when you have two children under the age of 7, an hour wait is dicey. Please add a sentence on your website that states "call to make a reservation" as I definitely would have, had I known. We will be back, but this time with a reservation. read more

So i came here for Chicago restaurant week ... i always print out the menus before i come so i was expecting what was on the online menu. The first thing that was bad is that they had already ran out of salmon and it was only 7:30pm ...they stay open until 10pm mind you. Ok so i settled for the rotisserie chicken which was so dry. I ordered the lobster deviled eggs for my starter and to my dismay there were only two halves when online menu clearly states it's 3 halves so ..i was majorly disappointed...i ordered the Wright wood salad for my second course and the salad had massive pieces of chicken thrown in with hardly any vinaigrette...I'm halfway thru the salad and out comes these cornbread croutons ... it wasn't that many people in the restaurant and service was terribly slow. A group of us went here for their $24 Restaurant week lunch, and I'm so happy to report it probably was one of the best RW deals out there this year :) That aside, their food is amazing! So, first off, make sure you call for reservation, it's a shame they don't have an online reso system, but you will need it since it is quite a popular dining spot. We were all seated promptly, our waitor is very friendly and informative. It was lunch, so I got a Blood Mary for drink, it was so tasty and came with a little miller chaser, so cool! Food wise, I got the lobster deviled eggs to start. The portion was a bit sad, considering they serve 3 pieces for $9 on the regular menu, we only got 2...that said, it was sooo yummy, who doesn't like lobster?! One of my friends got the mini fillet sandwiches, and that was a killer starter! Highly recommend that if you come with a big appetite. Many of us wanted to try the BBQ Salmon, however, it wasn't an option that day :( So I chose the Rotisserie chicken instead. I swear I can eat that in 2 meals easy! It's half a chicken with mashed potatoes, very creamy and the chicken is well seasoned. My friends got the chicken dip sandwich, this is a good choice if you want a bit more carb and still get to try their chicken! For dessert, our waitor was so kind to tip that the cookie icecream is limited for RW only, so I ended up getting that! However, their carrot cake was also just as delicious, but you can get that anytime. We were all STUFFED after the meal. Your money goes a long way at Crosby's! It might not be what most diners are searching for but the in house fresh made veggie burger is outstanding. I literally dream about this salmon on a weekly basis, it's so fresh and so good. Easily the best bbq salmon I've ever had in my life! The brunch menu is amazing as well. A nice place to take the family out for a bite to eat. If you are going at a busy time be sure to out your name in line on the yelp app before leaving. Overall, the place has a nice atmosphere, but it can get a bit chilly, and on sunday night we found it crowded with kids. While waiting we sat at the bar for some drinks. The bartender was not friendly to us and it took quite some time for me to get a water to have. My friends all got their drinks quite quickly. Once seated the manager came and said hello which was really nice since it was busy. Out of 4 of us I found that i was the only one with a great meal! I got their soup of the day which was black bean and chicken. It came with a plate full of fresh tortilla chips and was a steal for $6. My friends tried the au jus chicken sandwhich, burger, and the rotisserie chicken. While they were large portions each meal was very very dry. We ended the meal with a delicious cookie skillet. They don't have a bloody on the Mary on the menu but if you ask for them they'll make them for you with the biggest piece of bacon you'll ever see! I got the turkey burger and it came with this Asian coleslaw on top it definitely made the burger 10 times better other people I was with got a hamburger and the spinach artichoke dip. What a great place. Their shrimp and corn chowder was fantastic. So creamy and great flavor. Also order the crab cakes that were as good as if not better than the ones I have had in Maryland. This was my first time at Crosby's Kitchen and came at a recommendation from an employee at Lush across the street. I had the steak salad with salmon and a glass of Pinot Grigio. The salad was incredible and the salmon was cooked perfectly. It was a large portion and would easily have filled me up for a dinner time entree. Food is decent and the environment is very family oriented- louder restaurant that is very busy. The meat options are delicious (chicken, ribs) but they sides are underwhelming.
