So we went for lunch during COVID. We arrived around 1:30 and were able to get a table outside (still not ready for inside). The tables are spaced well for social distancing. Actually, we had and extra 6 feet between tables because of our timing. We felt perfectly safe. This was my first eating out experience since March. Yay! I had the roasted chicken salad. So good! Thanks, Crosby's! read more

I frequently visit Crosby's Kitchen and I'm always satisfied. We ate every last crumb on our plates. Food was delicious. Service was excellent- our server was polite, friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Their Brussel sprouts were delicious, and better than most I've found elsewhere. I enjoy their patio outdoor seating as well. read more

Came on a snowy weekday night and it was still really busy. For some reason there were open tables but didn't have enough chairs. Eventually we were seated and the waitress was very nice and attentive. I had the rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes. Chicken was seasoned well and the skin had a lot of good flavor. The side of mashed potatoes had a great texture and paired well with the chicken. Although it took longer than anticipated to get seated (more than 20 minutes with reservations) the great service and food more than made up for it. I would definitely come back and try other menu items. read more

Walk right in and you can feel the vibe of it being a fun and chill restaurant. Greeted promptly, we were seated and greeted by waitstaff right away. It's a family atmosphere, so depending on the day or dinner time, you may encounter families with well behaved kids ;) Service is superb, food came out quick and still warm from the kitchen. I would have taken pics, but ate it so fast haha. I've eaten here several times and it has always been consistent. Casual to business casual attire with American fare and full bar. read more

Overall I enjoyed my meal at Crosby's Kitchen! I always get the Wrightwood salad and it never disappoints. The reason for my 3/5 rating is I was disappointed they didn't have lattes or almond/oat milk to put in the cold brew. I also was disappointed that they don't have gluten free bread. My dad asked if the sausage was gluten free and the waiter said he was not sure. read more

We came for restaurant week and had a great, enjoyable meal! For 40 dollars per person, it's one of the more generous serving sizes of restaurant week menus that I've seen. We hadn't dined at Crosby's before, but I'd imagine that you're getting what a full order of each dish would be. We had a range of options; for appetizers we had the spinach dip, trout spread, cheese curds, and the Wright wood salad. Nothing to complain about with any of these, and I will say these were all large enough to share! For entrees we had the prime rib, rotisserie chicken, and steak au poivre. The chicken was so delicious - flavorful, juicy, and worth coming back for, and again enough to share. Our only complaint was that the waiter didn't ask how we preferred the steaks cooked, and they came nearly well done with a significant char on top, which wasn't to our liking. For desserts, we got the carrot cake and peanut butter pies and I'd definitely recommend getting all the carrot cake you can eat! It has a thicker consistency, making it taste so fresh and homemade and it definitely was the standout of this dinner! read more

Good selection, fast service, delicious food. We ordered and had purchased food and drinks within 5-8 minutes.

A lovely atmosphere with top notch servers! Always worth the wait but make a reservation for a quicker go! The appetizers rock, especially the deviled eggs! The fish is always good, but they roast chicken, pork, and beef on a spit- real nice high class stuff without being snooty! A great place for locals and visitors and really ties the neighborhood together! read more

Any restaurant that integrates Yelp's wait list system with their wait system needs to be commended right on the spot. This is a no brainer. Find a place you want to check out on Yelp, jump on the 'L' and get on the wait list. Simple. Get seated in a reasonable amount of time. Visited on a Friday night and it was fairly busy. Wait time was about 35 minutes. Plenty of space to wait; have a drink at the bar. Our server was Allison. Allison is the driver of this 5-star review. She was attentive, conversational and the experience with her felt natural instead of forced niceties. This made for a comfortable experience in a somewhat noisy atmosphere. Her friendliness helped detract from the kids screaming and jumping on each other farther down the way. Tsk tsk to the inattentive parents. Ordered the prime rib. Cooked to perfection at medium rare and the salt and pepper rub on the outside was tasty without being overpowering. Honestly, the runners tried to deliver our main course a little too quickly, but realized that they were ahead of schedule while we were still eating our salads and quickly retreated, with the waiting entrees, back to the kitchen. When we finished our salads and the entree was brought out again, the food did not seem like it had been sitting under a warming lamp. It looked and tasted fresh and as stated before, the prime rib was cooked to perfection, and I'm fussy about my prime rib. The brussel sprouts salad was excellent. The mashed potatoes met expectations and the key lime pie at the end was great. Maybe a touch more butter in the crust but overall it was great. I don't give out five star ratings unless I feel an establishment has actually earned it (I grew up before participation trophies) but tonight's meal and the service with Allison was a solid five-star experience. The place is highly recommended; it's worth the trip to Southport. read more

Nice ambience combined with pretty good to average middle of the road food equals a fun time...Think of an upscale Bennigans or Chili's and you get the point. My only complaint is that the cooks could learn to season food better and not be afraid of salt. read more

The neighborhood was buzzing so I was delighted to have our party of eight sat right away and we had a really nice meal. I got a passionfruit margarita and it was amazing!!! I'd honestly go back just for that. We got spinach dip and cornbread to start and those were both really good too. My steak salad was good but not amazing. I thought the steak could've used a lot more seasoning and the dressing was a bit too acidic. Last but not least, I love that they offer chicken legs on the kids' menu! I'm always looking for something that's not the standard mac n cheese, grilled cheese, quesadilla options and my son loved the chicken. read more

We grabbed lunch here as a group of 8. Luckily we had reservations because this place was popular!! And for a good reason - service was slow because of how busy they were but food, when it did eventually come out, was pretty delicious! I have my dairy allergy, but the restaurant was very accommodating and I was able to get the chicken sandwich on rye bread which contains no butter! =D The fat girl inside of me couldn't resist the avocado toast so I got that too. I definitely did not regret getting this appetizer and I'd recommend you get it too. I wouldn't dine here if you are in a rush, but it's a nice restaurant in a nice neighborhood to sit down and enjoy a longer brunch at, doubly so if you bring some good company. read more

Oh my gosh! One of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. The staff was bright and cheery, Marissa our server in particular. The food was delicious, we got the lobster deviled eggs to start and they were to die for, so much lobster per portion! I got the chicken dip sandwich with some of the best chicken I've ever had, which makes sense since it was roasted right in house! My friend got the cheeseburger and only had incredible things to say about it. We shared the skillet cookie to end the night and it melted in our mouths, so perfectly done. This is a great summer spot with the outdoor seating and we will definitely be returning. Thank you! read more

I live in the neighborhood and this is one of my go to spots! Great for groups and family get togethers and is reliably good for a wonderful meal. IMO the lobster deviled eggs are always a great way to start off a meal. They come in a serving of three and you can add one more if you want an even number of eggs to split. I'm also partial to the salads... That are all so good it's hard to pick a favorite! The biscuits are also a great addition to any meal! On a warm day the patio is a great place to dine and/or grab a drink and watch all the neighborhood Southport strollers and dog walkers. This laid back and cozy spot is always a good choice! read more

The prices are what you'd expect for a good home style mean in Southport, but it is certainly worth a visit when you want some Thanksgiving vibes. I had the Wrightwood salad here recently and it was great. The portions were decent and I felt that this salad alone was enough for a full meal. It was very crowded even on a weekday in the middle of the day so I would recommend having a reservation. It was also extremely difficult to find parking within a couple of blocks of the restaurant so come early to account for extra time if you're driving. read more

Sneaky Charges Loved Crosby's from the moment I walked in, until I got the check. "Processing Fee"???? What the absolute f***??? What is this, AirBnb??? Server was clearly uncomfortable to explain this. Never again. *Added after business replied * Sure, sure. That makes it right and totally acceptable, what was I thinking. Still will never return. I hate smugness, and am wondering if you treat your staff the way you treat your customers, ie like we're imbeciles? I would suggest businesses like these need to be called out. read more

I chose this place for brunch with some friends specifically because they accept reservations and are known to be very kid-friendly. It was definitely baby central that morning and my friends felt comfortable setting up their youtube cartoons on the table and taking out their snacks from home for their toddler. The food was okay, in my opinion. The iron skillet blueberry cornbread was good, but a bit too sweet for me. It's studded with actual corn kernels and it's large enough to share between 4+ people! I had the biscuits and gravy, which was a very large portion. I liked that the sausage in their gravy had a bit of kick to it. My fiance had the wood roasted chicken hash and he didn't really like it. Like others have mentioned, it was pretty much the inside of a chicken pot pie, topped with an egg and a biscuit on the side. The mimosa I had was quite good, though. Overall, I thought this place was pretty standard in terms of brunch offerings and flavors. Nothing really stood out to me. But if you are looking for a place that will take brunch reservations and is super welcoming to the kiddos, this is a good spot for you. read more

Great locally run tavern and grill. We split the Brussels Sprouts salad, it was really good, chewy and substantial. Our main dish items included the veggie burger, and the chicken pot pie. They were both delicious, the veggie burger was one of the best in town. Fries on the side. For me, I got a Lot of great veggies with the chicken skillet pie; mushrooms, celery, onions and more. But the biscuit was rather hard. Tons of families here, loved the atmosphere. Grace was a friendly and fast server. read more

I think I went to Crosby's with extremely high expectations. It was great service and the food tasted good but the only thing that wowed us was the cornbread because of how rich it was. The deviled eggs were just that with lobster on top and the chicken sandwich was a little dry. I only ate half and took the other half home to try to remake a little better at home with some sauces. Menu options were also limited as I expected to see a fried chicken sandwich or a unique burger on the menu. Patio space was definitely the selling point here. Make sure to make a reservation! read more

My friend and I had a lovely lunch here over the weekend. Pro-Tip: Dog Friendly! I was dog-sitting for a friend and was on the search for patios that allowed dogs. Crosby's Kitchen popped up and the photos from brunch looked delicious. We ventured over and I was not disappointed at all. We were told it would be 20-30 minutes for a table but were pleased when after only 10 minutes our table was ready, woohoo! The staff was all very pleasant, great service without being intrusive and they were so kind to bring the pup out a bowl of water. If you go for brunch, you must order the Iron Skillet Blueberry Cornbread. It's $8 and served warm with tons of blueberries and pieces of corn throughout. It comes with a maple butter that's just divine! I think I liked this starter more than my main dish. It was a huge portion, too! Between two of us (and a couple bites for the doggy), we only got through half of it. I ordered the omelette as the combination of ingredients sounded amazing - mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, bacon, spinach topped with hollandaise. It was ever so slightly overcooked and could have used a bit more cheese & bacon but overall was an A-OK omelette with the makings to be an amazing one. It came with a side of my choice and the fruit option was mostly watermelon with some blueberries and a strawberry - all very fresh. Enjoyed Crosby's Kitchen but especially that blueberry cornbread skillet. When you're trying to cut down on carbs and eat one of those....it makes you rethink your whole philosophy on eating! It's all about balance. :P Go to Crosby's for brunch and absolutely get the skillet. You'll thank me. And now I'm dying to try their cookie dessert skillet! read more

Would love to rate them higher but their rule of "you have to come here in person to put your name in" is absolutely arcane and wild, especially for Chicago weather and the fact there isn't much space to wait inside the restaurant. Wait around somewhere for 45 min with a -13 degree F windchill? Almost comes off as hostile to me. Like it's 2003 and I want to wait inside the lobby of an Olive Garden. Otherwise their food and service is usually pretty good. read more

The price for a cheeseburger and a side is fair for this part of town. The cheeseburger isn't anything to write home about though. The cheese on the burger was pretty non existent, it was almost like a slice of Kraft that 75% evaporated. The burger seemed like standard food service fare. The mashed potatoes are ok, but kinda lumpy. I have had worse overall, but I have had plenty better. I would not say I wouldn't give them another try. I ordered delivery and their packaging is decent. read more

Ended up here for brunch randomly, the menu was fairly small and had nothing particularly crazy or innovative on it, but honestly, my partner and I both agreed it was a really delicious meal, so much so we have been returning customers. Service was great both times, the food is solid, we're not going here to be amazed with unique dishes or anything, but for some ribs or a chicken sandwich or cornbread, it's really really good! read more

This is a great restaurant in the Southport area! We came on a week night and were seated immediately. We sat outside and it was a beautiful night. They kindly sat us next to the heat lamps outside per our request. Our waitress was very helpful in her suggestions for both food and drinks for all of us! I enjoyed my blackened fish sandwich and chose the mashed potatoes on the side! The sandwich was great but I wish I would've chosen a different side as the mashed potatoes were too dry for me. All good things must come to an end. Nice day started with breakfast at an old favorite. My wife and I decided to split an omelette that came with potatoes or fruit. We chose the potatoes. We also split the French toast. The vanilla-cinnamon French toast was just short of being a tad warm (even whipped butter would not melt on it), yet delicious. Why three stars? you may ask. The place had opened about an 1/2 hour before our arrival. There were just a few tables with patrons. Service was fine. The food was served very quickly. So far, so good. But the speciality lakeview omelette was rubbery, cold and insipid; and the potatoes were equally cold. The manager was apologetic and offered us another side of potatoes. I assume that side would have been hot. We declined. Southport is a great walking street. Crosby will outlive this review as it has outlived its former glory. read more

This is my second time coming to this place - the space is big (there's indoor and outdoor seating) and we got seated immediately. We started with the monkey bread which was AMAZING - I would definitely recommend this to share it with the table as an appetizer (it's essentially a cinnamon roll but a million times better) we shared it between 4 of us. I got the wrightwood salad - it had an ample amount of chicken on it (which isn't common) and had a ton of the toppings . Everyone I went with said their food was great - my friend got the bacon potato cakes which was literally the best thing I ever put in my mouth , without a doubt you need to get that on the side! read more

Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for starters and it was pretty good. What you would expect for a normal appetizer chip dip. For dinner I ordered the roasted chicken with a side of fries instead of the mashed potatoes. The chicken was good. It's fun to see the chicken roast in the kitchen and then a giant portion comes out for your dinner. The chicken is moist and very tender but a little hard to eat without having to tear into it a little bit with your hands. All in all a nice restaurant to try--very pretty ambiance as well. read more

Crosby's is normally excellent however, I will never go back. A couple nights ago I ordered for delivery. I live a couple blocks away. The food was delivered within 20 minutes. Somehow, it was already cold and the ribs were so burned that parts were inedible. It was Sunday night. I didnt want to bother them with a phone call since they were closing so I sent an email. (I have never complained about a food order in my life) Monday I sent another email. I've had no reply. I figure, if they can send the crap they sent me (for $48!) and not care enough to respond to my complaints, they have too much business. Tal H. read more
