I have done business with crooked oak in the past and have been extremely satisfied with their work and service. We needed to update our laundry room so I decided to contact them again got the estimate email the quotes agreed on everything felt everything was going very very well however the company refused to schedule me a date and time wanted me to pay for 50% of it upfront and told me that I could only tentatively scheduled for a day and it may change based on their needs. Anyways I feel they don't understand the needs of their clients or in this case former clients we need to take off work request time off use vacation time in order to be home for service and I just expected a better level of basic accommodation. Like being able to schedule service and a day and time that works for both parties. It might be just me but telling someone that the best we can do is tentatively schedule you is unacceptable. read more

I am surprised I do not see more reviews for this great small company! Oh well, maybe they are secret word of mouth. I recently hired them to install built-in closet systems throughout my new home and I could not be happier with the price, service and quality. This is the 2nd time I have worked with them, as they did my condo some years back. They can do everything from small easy and relatively inexpensive closet systems to very custom design built-ins and wardrobes. They are willing to work with you and are not high pressure at all. Crooked Oak, as the name implies is perhaps one of the worst cabinet millwork shops we have ever had the displeasure to work with. Every project for which they were involved produced work which was not only unsatisfactory, but failed to meet the specifications as set forth by the orders presented. Every project dragged and was never completed in a timely manner. In addition to the less than stellar work, the lead times far exceeded the quoted times, and in one instance over a year for a simple buffet cabinet, which in fact was never delivered. We have had to hire alternate craftsmen to redo the work and in some cases completely remake items. We were lied to about lead times, we were lied to about the capabilities of their shop, we were lied to about the true costs of products specified. We never received complete shop drawings, and they went ahead and built...incorrectly , I might add..a $50,000+ custom closet which needs to be completely redone. I would not recommend Crooked Oak to build a dog house much less a cabinet. So run, don't walk...run the other way! read more

I have used Crooked Oak for four of my closets. The entire experience from design to installation went flawlessly. Erin listened to what I had in mind, brought that reality to her drawings, we tweaked them, and the result has been amazing. The installation fit like a glove and the entire crew worked tirelessly on the installation of the closets. I would highly recommend Crooked Oak for all your closet design and organizational needs. I initially contacted Closet by Design for a consultation. They cancelled my appointment the day of the appointment and didn't follow up with me until several weeks later. Crooked oak installed all the closets in my home. We were mostly happy with the work. I contacted them some months ago as I wanted to make an adjustment. I ordered some parts which they sent out. However, they didn't send everything I needed. I've spent the last several months attempting to get the other 2 parts unsuccessfully. I have called and emailed and been fobbed off. I even emailed Joel the owner to ask him for his help resolving this pretty simple request. I was ignored. There are so many good closet companies in Chicago. When it comes to custom closets, the guys at crooked oak were as nice and as professional as could be. After shopping around and meeting with a few contractors, Crooked Oak came in WELL below on price and well above on quality and what I got for my money. Through the design that they came up, with I nearly doubled my closet space and have been told that my closets will be a nice selling point when I do decide to move. They even brought out additional shelves a year after the installation free of charge when my closet needs changed. I cannot recommend them enough and have had three friends since use their service. I ordered a new closet system from Crooked Oak and every stage of the interaction with Crooked Oak people was perfect. The final product was also plain fantastic. I'm so glad I found Crooked Oak on yelp, versus just get ripped off by places like California Closets (maybe they are worth it, but I just cannot plain afford it) Crooked Oak people came out for an estimate and showed up right on time, provided me a sample drawing right on time, made one necessary change, and installed the closet system on the requested date. I remodelled my master bedroom completely, but when people see my custom closet system, that is what produces the expressions of admiration. Crooked Oak was recommended to us by a friend who used them to build her custom walk in closet. We used Crooked Oak in our new home in 2012. I had them install organizers in 2 walk in closets, 3 regular bedroom closets and one linen closet. I worked with Joanna. They helped us maximize our storage space. They sent us estimates and drawings within a few days. We changed some things a few times and our house was also being remodeled so there was added storage which required additional changes. After finalizing the plans, they only took a couple of weeks before they scheduled the installation. They came in and installed all the closets in one day. They were very efficient and easy to work with and the quality of their work product shows. 5 years later, the closets still look great. I called them again this year to make an extra little pantry under the basement stairs. They were replacing one that had water damage from a flood. I didn't realize they did pantries (none in their website) so I called Closets by Design which was a much more challenging and expensive experience. They made mistakes in the installation 2 times and had the worst customer service I've ever experienced. It took them several months and many phone calls and emails before they came back and replace chipped pieces. I tried Crooked Oak for the replacement pantry because I did not want to work with the other company again. I worked with Erin. We went back and forth on the design a few times. Once again, they took a couple of weeks to custom build the shelving and installed the pantry perfectly in one day. Crooked Oak installed a beautiful custom closet and provided some realistic quotes for future projects. From start to finish, Joanna was a pleasure to work with and was able to design both an attractive and functional master closet for us. She provided a quote in design in record time, even though it was the middle of the holiday season. They were able to come and install the closet two weeks later. The installation time was faster than quoted and they cleaned up after themselves and were careful to not ruin our walls. I'd definitely recommend them for any closet or other home projects. Dont believe what the owners are posting on here. Lies! Not once was I told about needing a solid core door. In addition, there is no heat coming from the front of my dryer. As I previously mentioned, months went by with no contact from this company. Phone calls and emails went unanswered. Very unprofessional and sketchy. Do your own research. I contacted Crooked Oak to get an estimate for a custom media center. The owner Joel came out for the consultation. He said he would get back to me with a quote in 3-4 days. I never heard from him. About 2+ weeks later I followed up with him. No response to my email. I emailed one more time a couple days later and he wrote back and said he was sorry and he thought he sent me the quote and that he'll send it right away. Then I NEVER received an email from him! I waited a day or two and then emailed him to tell him we are going with another contractor. I don't know how these guys are still in business! I would avoid! read more
