A sweet escape we stumbled on last summer that definitely deserves a shout out is the wonderful…read more@soyendesserts They are in a building literally next to the St. Paul Farmers Market. (Future post for them, stay tuned) Their amazing donut flavors do rotate and they do get sold out of items because they're that good. Flavors we got today and loved: Lemon Cloud Dream (mmmmmm bright and delish) Cocoa Cloud Raspberry Delight All of these were light and fluffy and full of amazing filling that was airy whipped and flavorful. This spot is one to make sure you stop by and try something if you're at the market or just in the area.

It seems that they are rightly known for their sweet baked goods, hence the name, but they have some savory offerings as well. I had heard good things about their congee so I made a point to try that. It was good! Filling, plenty of meat. I also have had a unique, savory roll that was buttery and great, I forgot what it's called but it's good. And I had a Lychee Rose brioche donut. Decadent! Delicious. Loved it. I got a Vietnamese coffee one time that was great, and a matcha milk with ube foam that was also great. So, yeah, really everything I've had has been great! The opening hours are painfully limited. They are only open from 9am to 1pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And both times I came it was close to noon and they were sold out of LOTS of things. I'm convinced that if you go there because you want something specific, you simply can't trust them to have it available. Instead of planning a specific visit, the wiser approach would be to give them a look if you're in the area during one of the 12 hours they are open in a given week, and see if you're interested in what they aren't sold out of. They have an indoor counter which you get to via the main entrance on 4th street, and guessing your way through the halls until you find them past that gallery. There is also a seating section which has the ambience of a break room at a DMV. But there is also an outdoor window on Saturday & Sunday, with some seats set up in the alley; that description sounds dicey but it's perfectly fine. My hope is that they improve on some of this to make for a more predictably positive experience!

Some brands are just brands... and then there's Heinz. The company started with simple products…read morelike horseradish and pickles that were bottled in clear glass so customers could see the quality. That transparency alone says a lot about the foundation of this brand from the start. Let's fast forward over 150 years, and Heinz has become the name most people automatically picture when they think of ketchup. Am I right? Now think flavor? Perfectly balanced. Slightly sweet, tangy, rich tomato depth...not too watery, not too thick. It just hits right every time. There's a reason it became famous for its "57 Varieties" slogan and ended up a staple in homes, diners, BBQs, and restaurants everywhere. What I love most is consistency. Whether it's their classic ketchup on a juicy burger, dipped with crispy fries, spread on a hot dog, or even paired with scrambled eggs (don't judge!), it tastes the same every time. Their mustard brings that sharp bite to sausages, pretzels and best of all a marinate to meats. Heinz 57 sauce on steak or meatloaf? Classic comfort. Over the years they've expanded into mayo, BBQ sauces, and creative blends, but the core flavor profile still feels nostalgic. It's one of those brands that reminds you of backyard cookouts and family dinners. Heinz didn't just make condiments, they helped define what ketchup is supposed to taste like. Reliable, flavorful, timeless even. Some things don't need reinventing... they just need a squeeze bottle on the table.

Well, well look what popped up. Don't mind if I do. Post a Heinz review that is…read more I have to start with my first Ketchup memories. Now,it's not often or everyone that has specific childhood ketchup memories. On second thought, everyone has them. But,it's more than I loved ketchup as a kid or I hated ketchup. Growing up in Dallas it was an us and them experience. My grandmother used Del Monte ketchup and she kept it in the refrigerator. My mother Bought Heinz and kept it in the pantry. I liked ketchup but, just on French fries. Everyone had friends that smothered everything in ketchup but not me. I discovered last year I like ketchup more than ever and have been dowsing my burgers with it occasionally. It seems not that long ago,the Heinz glass bottle disappeared for ever. I love glass and hate plastic so it was a sad passing but I get the business necessities of it. So I chug along with my plastic bottle of Heinz,in the fridge and ready for action. It came in handy the other nite when I combined it with horse radish to make shrimp cocktail sauce. It seems Heinz has the ketchup market cornered and that's ok with me. Why? Thick and Flavorful. Remember the ad campaign from decades ago when Carlie Simon sang, Anticipation as an upside down bottle of Ketchup barely moved. Yum

Also, If you love a wide array of sauces this is a great spot to choose! We got a ton to try with the meats/wings. My favorites were the house dry rub wings, brisket and the banana pudding. What I tried: Texas Stogies: Jalapeños, stuffed with cream cheese & brisket, wrapped in bacon & smoked. Chicken wings--smoked & fried--got the house dry rub and a ton of dips to try. They serve it with carrots, celery, and your choice of ranch or bleu cheese. Three Meat Platter: We picked brisket, ribs, and turkey. The sides we enjoyed were the potato salad and fries with the comeback sauce. The comeback sauce with the fries is a pro move! Plain Burger - 1/2 pound smoked and seared burger. We did a side of the Street Corn Salad. Petey's Banana Pudding: This is absolutely to die for. I am not a huge dessert person, but this was so good I didn't want to share it. Always get a large! When visiting make sure you park in the ramp next door! Alary's offers validated parking ticket evenings and weekends including Wild games! Also, they have shuttles to and from the Wild games!
