Make sure to buy your lettuce to feed the giant tortoises, it's amazing to see how fast they come up to you to get the lettuce. The tour guides who were feeding the alligators and crocodiles were very knowledgable and showed how much they love what they're doing. You get very close to the alligators and crocodiles, I mean there is a fence but you are close to the fence and they come very close to the other side of the fence. The tour was a full 1 1/2 hours. There are also kangaroos, lemurs, potbelly pigs and deer. Would highly recommend a trip here and will go again when we have visitors read more

What a cool adventure! We are big animal lovers and frequent many many zoos all over the country. This crocodile sanctuary was so interactive and cool! Even though it was hot as blazes outside the guides were so informative and nice and they were so good at getting the crocs and gators to "perform" that it kept our attention on them and off the sun. The absolute highlight is the tortoise field. So many times at zoos you see these amazing tortoises but you never get to really reach out and touch them...not here! I could have stayed in that little pasture all day! They sell lettuce heads for $5, and they sell bags of crocodile food for $5....so for $20 we got more than enough for our family of four to get to feed to our hearts' content. If I had ONE suggestion it would be to install misting systems on the walking path for the tour...would have been a nice break from the heat! read more

More than just crocodiles! I took my nephew here for his birthday expecting to see all the cool crocs. They have so many other animals as well. It was like a zoo. I was visiting Houston for a few days with friends. I ate some awesome barbecue, played Top Golf, watched an NBA playoff game (that went overtime) and went to The Crocodile Encounter tour. The Crocodile Encounter may have been the highlight of my trip. Full disclosure, I love animals, so seeing all these incredible animals up close just made me giddy. The tour was extremely organized and gave a very adequate amount of time to view and/or interact with the animals. Our tour guide (who happened to be the owner) gave really entertaining but educational commentary. He was very interactive with the crowd and was happy to answer questions. My friends aren't exactly the zoo/animal type and all of them agreed that this tour was pretty cool. This place is a hidden gem. After trying to find a truly unique place to take my out of town guests, I came across this place on Yelp. The reviews didn't say much, but I just had to go out on a limb and check it out...and I was very pleased! After checking out the website, I made a reservation several weeks in advance via email with the owner, Chris. My party of 6 showed up at the business around 11:45 as the tour began at noon. When we first drove up, I was a little skeptical of what we had gotten ourselves into. This facility is actually the back yard of the owner's house. We started the tour by checking out some pricey and rare turtles and then continued to see alligators, crocodiles, more turtles (that we got to feed), wart hogs, a capybara, elands and snakes. The guide, (Leland, I believe was his name) was incredibly knowledgeable and fun. The owner and his wife were present for part of the tour. You could really tell this place is a labor of love for their family. The crocs and gators weren't too hungry on the day we visited. The owner said they usually save their appetites for the horse meat, as the meal for the day I visited was chicken. For a two hour tour and $9 a person, this is an incredible value! In addition to the tours at the house, they also do parties. I'm not sure of the cost, but I can imagine these would be just as interesting and fun as the tour. I will definitely be back to this place, as I believe it's a new experience every time you go. Amazing! We have been visiting the Crocodile Encounter for the last 8 years or so. It is a very well kept facility that keeps its inhabitants in a natural large habitat. The tortoises are a joy to feed and are huge! I'm guessing 3' long, The staff is very friendly and informed. They obviously take joy in entertaining and educating all visitors; you can tell they love their work. It can get hot but there are drinks and snacks. The gift shop is nice and well thought out with no junk souvenirs. I really enjoy taking visitors here for a true taste of Texas that is not so commercialised. They came to our house for my sons Birthday Party for his own Crocodile and Animal encounters experience it was a resounding success! Keep up the good work! If you don't like a family friendly, quiet, peaceful non crowded hometown experience go to the Zoo! read more

I had seen the reviews and comments on Facebook, so my expectations were high. I wasn't disappointed. For the price of admission, and a few extra bucks for the food for the alligators and vegetable eaters, we were given a tour and education about the animals/reptiles that are housed at this facility. We were not rushed, questions were answered, and fun was had by all. After the tour, we are free to go back through the park and revisit the animals we wanted to spend more time with. I went here for a school field trip. The field trip itself was fun and educational. The pavilion environment is lacking adequate sitting. For lunch they wanted us to sit on the dirty ground. If your going to have multiple schools come at one time you should be able to provide enough tables for lunch time. read more

These folks are amazing! The setup is great, tons of space for animal roaming and well kept enclosures. Being able to feed nearly all the animals was awesome (produce and alligator feed pellets available for purchase). Try to visit during the actual feed times and see aligators go crazy for chicken thighs. Don't panic when gators are literally inches from your feet on the walkways! We easily spent a couple hours here and likely would have spent longer, but realized it was after closing. Highly recommend visiting this place for both adults and kids outside the Houston area. read more

A unique experience! Decided to bring our daughter during spring break and we're so glad we did! From the moment we checked in we were greeted with smiling faces. We had the option to buy food to feed the animals ($5 each) which I highly recommend. It's not everyday you get to feed huge tortoises, alligators and elands. Our tour guides were all great! Crocodile Encounter has a great traveling show. Two performers and 5 big boxes of reptiles. I encountered them at a 7-yr old's birthday party. The adults were as enchanted as the kids. The performers (Leonard and Jennifer?) took out one reptile at a time, told us about it, and (for some) took them around to be touched and petted. Skinks and snakes and huge turtles and lizards I'd never seen before. Pus, as the finale, the two crocodiles (~3 yr old, 2' long ea.) Leonard (who's maybe 21) did an incredible job of both handling the lizards and also giving an excellent, informative, entertaining and continuous patter. Jennifer played second string, took the animals around and chatted with the kids, getting many children who were initially afraid of the reptiles to smile and stroke their backs. Leonard didn't have a price list, but told me that a show like this - for a birthday or entertainment at a dinner or church event - runs roughly $250 for the Houston area. I was wowed. read more

We all loved this place. The American alligator to the west Nile crocodiles very cool up close and you can feed through a fence which my kids loved. It's not dangerous these reptiles are used to people so not very aggressive they are fed well. Our guide tried to get as many as he could to jump for food which we found exciting. Interesting place! We came here for a children's birthday party. They had many types of alligators and crocs. The enclosures were well maintained and it didn't feel too zoo like where the animals seem unhappy and trapped, except for the ones in the building with all the kiddy pools in it. I'm not much of a zoo fan for that reason. The guide was informative about the reptiles too. Overall we had a good time. read more

Worth the 45-60 min drive out from Houston...BTW slow down on the highways and county roads and enjoy the scenery changes...quite a few radar zones were spotted during the drive. This experience was really incredible!! We were able to get really up close to a variety of animals and there is an option to do an Adventure Hour which offers a hands-on experience with a few of the crocodilians and mammals. The guides were knowledgeable and very friendly. The animals are treated with respect and are given the best care. They are never forced to perform or do tricks, and Crocodile Encounter is also very conservation-minded.
