So this is out in the country and we had no idea this place existed until I looked for things to do on Groupon. We showed up down a long country road into a dirt parking lot and honestly this place was really cool. The gators and crocodiles were really close. We opted not to feed the animals but they hear you coming and they come to where you are from the crocodiles to the emus and even the tortoises. The Nigerian pigmy goats were crazy and trying to get food non stop even though we clearly didn't have any. We followed the map and got to see some pretty cool animals very closely. We didn't do any of the shows but those are supposed to be pretty spectacular. It was slightly hot but there was some shade and a breeze which was nice. I wish the gift shop sold cold beverages. They might have but I didnt see any. Don't miss out on this place!

I used to think of Louisiana and Florida when I heard about people feeding alligators and crocodiles, but when I was looking for something different for my child's birthday party, I discovered that you could see crocodilians being hand-fed up close in Texas too at Crocodile Encounters ("CE")! CE is an easy 40 minute drive from the center of Houston. We ended up having our birthday party there, and it was a lot of fun for everyone. CE will give you a tour, tell you about the different types of animals, and give you some food to feed the animals too. It is outside so you can accommodate a decent crowd and the kids can be loud and rambunctious. CE has all sorts of crocodilians; the ones I can remember are the American Alligator, Saltwater Crocodiles, Cuban Crocodiles, and Chinese Alligators. They have some biggie adults and some babies in a nursery. They have some other animals too, like goats that you can feed, and some exotic game running around in the back. But they are a working zoo, and animals rotate in and out. After taking a tour, they have a pavilion where you can have some food, drink, and a birthday cake. In sum, this is so much more interesting and more of an educational experience than yet another "bouncy castle" birthday. I highly recommend you consider Crocodile Encounters if you're looking for something different too.

Thank you, Crocodile Encounter for an outstanding birthday party experience! The gentleman who came out was knowledgeable, patient, entertaining, and had the entire audience captivated! Our birthday boy loved it, and it was such a treat for everyone! Working with you guys to coordinate everything was also a breeze. I would highly recommend to anyone considering something unique for an unforgettable experience.

I can't remember the guys name that came out for my son's 3rd birthday party, but he was awesome! All the kids and even the adults really enjoyed the show. He was very patient with all the kids, and was a true professional. I hope they pay this dude well or give him a raise. If you want to give your kids an amazing birthday party, call Crocodile Encounter.

If youre visiting Houston, or live in the area, make it a priority to visit Crocodile Encounter!!! They're incredible! My friend and I visited on a weekday and went on the guided tour. We were the only ones on the tour, and had a wonderful experience learning about and meeting the "swamp dragons" as my friend calls them. Marcus, who led our tour was awesome! :) we would definitely come back!!

Very educational and exciting! I took my kids here (6 and 7 years old) since they missed their field trip. We took the guided tour and I'm glad we did. It was worth the few extra dollars to learn about each gator or croc and watch them eat. During the tour it was obvious that the employees take pride in their work and love the animals. They spoke about the individual personalities and traits of each animal and called them by name. My kids love animals and we have been to many "animal experiences" and I don't always feel comfortable with the treatment of the animals, but Crocodile Encounters was well maintained, the animals had large enclosures, and the staff was knowledgeabl

We had such a blast! I was impressed with the amount of alligators andcrocodiles, and other animals they house and we got to interact with! Highly recommend for well behaved children as a family outing or as a day date for couples!

I heard about Crocodile Encounter via a mom blog and have had this place bookmarked for months. Finally made it out here and had a really great visit! I went online and booked a guided tour beforehand and it was super easy to get checked in when we arrived. If you're planning a trip here, I highly recommend the guided tour. I can't remember the name of our guide but it is his sixth year giving tours there and he was absolutely hilarious. Bags of carrots and alligator pellets are available for purchase at the gift shop ($5 apiece). Apparently you can also bring your own lettuce to feed the tortoises if you want as well. The guided tour is awesome because you get to see them feed the gators and crocs. I have no words to describe this experience except it is AMAZING. Seeing these animals in real life is truly a sight to behold. If you have small children, hold them tight!! There are fences and gates but little fingers can slip through and get chomped off easily if you are not monitoring your kids. Personally, my toddler enjoyed the tour but it was a bit long for her. Her attention was fading by the 1 hour mark. We saw lots of interesting animals on our visit, including: a possum, lemurs, pot bellied pigs, antelope, red kangaroos, goats, crocodiles, alligators, and a snake. At the end of the tour, you have the opportunity to touch/hold a few small animals. This facility is a hidden gem and I highly recommend it if you are wanting to get an up close look at these incredible reptiles.

Fun for everybody! My boyfriend and I booked a last minute "Big Croc Adventure Tour" and it was so much FUN! Very interactive. We got to feed several different types of animals, got to watch the staff feed the gators and crocs, and learned a ton of new facts! The staff here were very friendly and you could tell they loved doing what they do! Definitely not your average "zoo". Highly recommend if you are in the area!

We purchased our time entry tickets (my son's student ticket was free, but he did need to show his student ID) for Friday at 12:00. It was a rainy day, so we entered with our rain jackets and umbrellas. Parking in Hermann Park was easy, and we got a spot right close to the zoo entry. The rain was light, and came and went. The day cooler than average at 76 degrees F or so. We wandered from sight to sight, and saw just about everything. We were not able to find the Snow Leopard, nor the Howler Monkeys (including the new baby). We didn't see a bear. The elephants were just going in for feeding time. Still there was so much to see! Monkeys, otters, snakes, bugs, frogs and lily pads, zebras, antelopes, elephants, tigers, lions, leopards, ocelot, the Ant Eater was amazing! There was a sea lion exhibit where you stand in a tunnel, and the sea lions swim over you! And, there was a "cat walk" upon which the leopard would stalk--creepy! The animal attendants were very friendly and interactive, offering information about each animal, including the names and ages of the animals. They were able to answer any question I threw at them--what do they eat? Who gets a long with whom? The signage was interesting, too, with information about each species, and then a white board that is apparently updated frequently with daily news. We were there the Friday prior to Mother's Day, and there were heart signs around, identifying each of the mothers by name, wishing them Happy Mother's Day. Very sweet! Sweetest of all was the just born Gibbon (just 10 days old). It was in its mama's arms, and dad and her other son were playing nearby. The family was incredibly sweet! Dad and 3-year-old son Marv were taking care of each other while Mom was taking care of baby. And watching them swing along their trees was so fun! Favorite exhibits included the Gorilla and the Gibbons. Next time we visit Houston, we will be back on a sunny day, perhaps in the morning, to see if we can find even more!

Kids under 3 are free-- also have additional prices for active duty military and seniors. Feed bags are very generous and an additional $4 per bag. Animal information brochures are provided with ticket purchase and show interesting facts and information about many- but not nearly all- of what you will see. The drive through park is a bit shorter than some when comparing to others around Texas and you are encouraged to throw feed and not hand feed. But the boardwalk and activities in the middle section (called Explorers Retreat) more than make up for it. The boardwalk has an additional walk through area where you can feed and view more animals and you can grab another animal brochure in your way in. This area is stroller and wheelchair friendly. The explorers area also has other fun activities like food trucks, gemstone mining for $10, feed Puzzles the giraffe for $4 or $8 depending on the feed you choose, a bar, porta potties, a gift shop, and free petting zoo. Though many of the additional activities cost $$, the boardwalk walk through and petting zoo is free and included with your ticket purchase and it's definitely worth getting out to explore. Gemstone mining was $10 and included a gem card and a large bag of dirt and gems to clean in the moving water table. Marilyn, the woman in charge of this area, made it more than worth our money by drawing out the activity and engaging the kids. She really added to the experience. Feeding the giraffe was fun but quick and could have used some more positive interactions, facts and information about giraffes from employees to enhance the experience for the kids. You are able to drive through as many times as you want after buying the day pass and we took advantage, driving through 3 times with our two bags of food. Pro tips- change drivers and seat positions during each new drive through for different perspectives, bring cups to separate food and give each person their own cup full, bring cameras and binoculars. We absolutely loved our experience and would have purchased season passes if they were a little more affordable. We can't wait to go back!

Several areas are far too dark at night, especially considering how many children are running around--it felt unsafe. The smell throughout the farm was unpleasant, the bathrooms were not functioning properly, and the lighting overall was poor. The price for each game is ridiculous for what you get. On top of that, I've read the responses from management to other reviewers, and the way they speak to customers is unprofessional and off-putting.
