We attended a birthday party here for a young child. The place has a bunch of cute things for the kids, animals, food. Overall very cute place. The woman running the show was amazing. Very friendly, interacted very well with the children. The cowboy man however was incredibly rude and shouldn't be interacting with kids. At one point he got into a screaming cursing match with a parent over a pony ride. Extremely unprofessional and I can't recommend this place unfortunately. read more

I took my 3yo daughter to a friend's 4th birthday party here. There was a lot of stuff to play with, including multiple playgrounds, carnival type games like basketball goals and ring toss and bean bag toss. There was a magic show, and the magician was interacting with the kids, who enjoyed it. They also had pony rides - their tails and manes were painted and they had horns on them to make them look like unicorns. read more

The people running this place deserve zero stars. Some of the play sets are run down and rickety. As a guest here I saw and heard 3 incidents in the span of 1.5hrs. The man and the woman who run this place both have serious issues. I heard the man raising his voice and warning the caterers to not throw their grease outside. I heard the woman SCREAMING at another caterer telling them "no no no get out the way" because they didn't want to serve food next to the goats, which makes sense because of food codes. I heard the entire conversation and the people who run this place are straight up condescending and disrespectful. I also heard the man yelling at another guest "Shut the door! Don't you see you're letting the a/c out!"There's a way to speak to people, and they clearly are not fit to be running an event venue and much less working in customer service. I'm looking at the other reviews, and I can't help but wonder if they're possibly racist. read more

Wonderful place for toddler/gradeschool birthday, with built in program that is on "autopilot." The program moves nicely with plenty of downtime between each activity, concluding with an entertaining magic show. Restrooms are available and clean. Trash is handled swiftly. This venue is flexible with your catering choice and also accommodating as far as adult beverages. The service area has plenty of table space as well as large coolers that are ready to go. Please be mindful however that the owners do not want any smoking on their grounds and guests should kindly step off the property if they would like to smoke. read more

The place was cool. Was very nostalgic and different. The ponies and stables were fun. The toys were old and dirty, but that was also okay because it added to the nostalgia. The woman running the place was also very nice. What was absolutely not okay was the cowboy man running the show. He should not be allowed around any child ever, nonetheless hosting children's birthday parties. When the children didn't do exactly as he commanded, he would flip s--t. He was screaming and yelling at them in their faces. What made it worse was that I have an autistic cousin, and he clearly was not mindful of absolutely any situation. He went out yelling at him and physically put his hands on him and was pushing him because he wasn't responding to this grown man's temper tantrum. As cool as the place was, I cannot ever in good faith recommend it to anyone. I honestly feel there should be a court order against this man being any distance near a child. read more

Came here for the Easter egg hunt (madness). The facility is very large with so many activities but it seems a lot of the amenities/equipment are old almost rusty. Wear & tear. Lots of the activities are mostly for toddlers. My 5 year had maybe an hour of fun. There is an area that sells snacks but the line is long. Bathroom is surprisingly clean. There are areas to sit, many shaded. It is located in a neighborhood. We saw the ponies and the limited animals (chickens) but can only pet them through the fence. I considered having my daughter's birthday there but it would be extremely hot outside. read more

Beautiful place for a party! Mike and Marian are too kind! So many things to do on this property, jungle gym, animals (ponies, horses, goats, etc), an arcade for the adults etc AC! One of my friends and her kids were treated abysmally by the owner of Hitchin' Post. They spent 30 minutes waiting for a pony ride when other kids were allowed to go multiple times, and happened to be the only Asian family there at the time. She also reported that the owner made several inappropriate comments to the mothers at the party. Please be wary of this place. read more

I have been here for a lot of the parties and also had my son's party here and all I can say is that the place is great but Cowboy Mike is horrible. He is rude and unbothered. I don't understand why he even host bday parties for kids when he doesn't know how to even talk to them. It's so obvious that he doesn't like kids and is annoyed of them. He scolds kids in the party every time he gets annoyed. His wife is nice but Mike literally ruins everything with his attitude and rudeness. Won't host another party with them again. read more

I went to a birthday party for a precious 5 year old friend and Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian were AMAZING! The first arrived with Sugar - a pink pony, and a small train for the children to ride. Cowboy Mike then changed outfits into a rodeo clown and had all of the kids play some games. Cowboy Mike then performed a magic show for the kids. Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian are truly child whisperers! They had all of the children paying attention, listening, and behaving that I have never seen a group of 5 yr olds. All of the children seemed to have loved everything Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian had to offer the kids but even better was the fact that the parents and other adults enjoyed themselves as well, because the children were entertained throughout the party. If you want a seamless children's party Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian and the people to call! They will come to your location, but they also informed me that they have a pavilion out in Katy in which they hold parties. read more

I had my son's 2nd birthday party there, and after all the free marketing I gave to this place (putting the website on all the invitations, etc), I left with a sour taste at the end due to the egocentric male owner. Let me start by saying that the venue itself is awesome. Lots of fun stuff for the kids, nice animals, nice big pavilion, and the ladies are great. We brought all the food, coolers of beer for the dads, and even booked a mechanical bull. Everybody had a great time... Until the end. When I arrived 30 minutes early (which we had agreed to), I was told to sit in the car outside the gate until 15 minutes before the party or I would be charged extra. So I waited. Then "control freak Mike" didn't like that I was setting up the food & dessert table and gave me and my party planner an attitude while getting ready. We moved on, most of the party was great, and all the guests loved the place and were commenting on how wonderful the party was. Fast forward to the last activity which was the Magic Show. At the beginning, there were a couple of boys in the front row talking, and Angry Mike went off on them very harshly (as if they were his own kids). The mother of one of the kids (which also happened to be my party planner, who was already tired of his attitude) reminded him that they are kids and asked him to talk nicer to them. He then went off on her to the point that he kicked her out of my party in front of all the kids and parents (let's not forget I'm paying for all of this). He was so angry that he threw the rope and walked away from the "Angry Show." SO DISRESPECTFUL to me as a client and all of my guests. My husband went and talked to him and convinced him to do the Magic Show but a lot of people had already left because of the drama. After paying at the end, I didn't even get an apology from "Angry Mike" because he thinks that having 200 parties a year (wish I had a dollar for every time he threw that number out there) and being booked every weekend gives him the right to treat people like that. He even said to me that he didn't need my referral or any referral/business from my guests. I took the risk of booking with him because my husband and I are very easy going, but he's so full of himself, it's sad. Feel bad for the two friendly ladies working there. And "Angry Mike" don't worry about replying to my review because there is no excuse or apology accepted at this point for your rudeness. You are very DISRESPECTFUL to kids and parents. You own a great place, but you are in the wrong business. I'd recommend hiring someone to manage the parties, clients, and kids. BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK, you will be also dealing with "Angry Mike" in the booking process. If he agrees to anything during the booking process (such as allowing you to come in 30 minutes early to set up), be sure you get it in writing. If you catch him on a good day, I'm sure you'll have a great experience (obviously, as all the positive reviews show). I understand that he's the owner, and he wants things his way. But you have to keep in mind that he wants to run the show down to the minor details. Don't step on his toes, be sure you're willing to let him go off on your guests' kids, and hope you don't catch him at the wrong time of the month. read more

I would not use these folks based on the call I just made to Mike. First off he generically answers the business phone number listed on his website "Hello". Ok, not sure if I have the right place or not so I ask "Is this Hitching Post Stables"? He replies "yeah". I begin to ask a question and he cuts me off mid sentence and says "Ma'am, I've gotta run. Call ya back" and hangs up in my face. So based on that 10 second conversation I have no idea what level of service they are capable of providing and Im not in the mood to put my money up to find out. Sorry to say.....I would not recommend this party venue for children to anyone I know. Attended a party recently and at first arrival our family was excited & impressed. Lots to do for the kiddos. BUT on closer inspection, we found things that concerned us. Dirty riding toys, green slimy water in a rowboat that children were pretending to fish in. One set of the trackless train cars consisted of plastic barrel cars for the children to ride in that were rickety and looked like they were well past safe usage. To be fair there was a nice wooden set of cars that looked solid & safe. BUT both sets of cars were pulled by two riding mowers over the property filled with children that appeared to be 2 years old & up. No seat belts! Also a nice wooden stage coach was pulled by one of the mowers was over-filled with children & had children in the front top of the coach & on a seat on the back with no seat belts or harnesses. Safety was a serious concern. Air bounce was FILTHY & filled with sand and dirt. No idea when it might have been cleaned last from it's appearance. Absolute WORST issue was that Cowboy Mike, who was driving one of the riding mowers pulling the train cars was seen repeatedly drinking from multiple beer cans throughout the 3 hour children's party. The young children had a great time, they were blissfully unaware of the issues that several of us parents saw. We were all alert and watchful of the children the entire time. Our family had considered planning a party there in the spring. After seeing it up close - we will not. Advise families to go take a tour in advance before making a commitment. read more

We were invited to a birthday party last week and we absolutely LOVE it that my son was sad that I have already booked his birthday party else where a month ago, we will definitely have his birthday here next year. Saw some comments saying cowboy Mike yelled at children, not sure what the story behind was but the birthday party that I just went to, during the boarding on the train a big boy was pushing all the younger children (or toddler) and Cowboy Mike step in and yelled at him. I won't blame him at all, he just want to ensure all the children are safe. Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl really love children and they have lots of fun things to offer! This place was nasty. Our three children attended a party here and the only thing I can think of to describe the place is a glorified garage sale. The "activities" were kept outside and gross, worn, broken, and just plain awful. The swing set was lopsided and leaning. The "train" was very unstable and should not be used. The bounce house was full of water from rain three days earlier. Many activities didn't even work! The saddest part were the animals. They seemed to be very unhappy. The bunnies lived in cages that were beyond deplorable. The cages hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The deer appeared to be kept in a 9x9 stable and never let out. The other stables were nasty. I will never take my children there again and will never recommend this place to anyone. They need to close up shop and re-evaluate. read more

We held a double birthday party for our 2 year old daughters in March 2014. Overall we were happy with the venue in that there were lots of things for the kids to do, you could bring all your food and decorations and Mike was generally good about keeping in touch. It didn't hurt that we had gorgeous weather that day! I do agree with other reviews about the equipment. In fact, when we made our first trip out there to view it, my friend's husband said NO WAY because the toys looked so disheveled and dirty strewn all over the grass but I looked at the potential in it. During our actual party, a couple of parents did ask me why the owners didn't keep up with the grounds. There were cobwebs in corners, toys were weathered, and the animal cages could have been cleaner too. I will also agree that Cowboy Mike isn't the best with kids. I expected him to interact a little more with them and know how to entertain them but he didn't. However, with all of that said we had a GREAT party and all of the kids had so much fun riding the ponies, train and the stage coach! We really liked that we could invite as many people as possible for the same price and had the place all to ourselves. First off I would like to say I my girls love love loved the ponies. Pink one, blue one and a rainbow one. Super cute and colorful. The staff was very nice. I am glad we visited this place. It was definitely different from what I was expecting. They had a variety of activities for the kids to do. I would like to say it is for smaller children. Like ages 1-8. I think 8 might be pushing it a bit but they could have some fun. They had live music which was great. This is not an all day event maybe 2 hours if that. I would suggest that they do some updating on the property. Swing set seems to be a little unstable. There was no real restroom to use nor a baby changing station. Or at least I didn't not come across one. The last part was that the petting zoo was not a petting zoo. I mean we had to reach our hands threw a fence to touch the animals. I was expecting a small gated area designated for them. But it was not much to my surprise. At the end of the day we did have an experience and the little one did enjoy it. read more

Came for a birthday party and the kids seemed to have a great time. The workers seemed friendly and helpful. Some of the equipment and games seemed a little old and dirty like other reviews said. We have been to 2 parties at this place in the past two years. I have two main problems with the place. 1. It is clear that everything is stored outside in the elements so everything is weathered, broken and dirty. Imagine a horrible school carnival on steroids... 2. The biggest problem is that Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian really do not seem to like children. They run around the place yelling at kids not to break things (hello - it's all broken already). Went to a birthday party for my sons friend turning 3 on Sunday and my son is still talking about it and asking to go back! So much to do- tons of age appropriate carnival games like fishing, duck races, ring toss, bean bag toss- along with a club house and slide, sand box with toys, a train ride, stage coach ride and a ride on the pink haired pony Sugar. My son had so much fun, and I thought the amount and type of activities available were awesome for his age. He loved the pony ride- he would have enjoyed another train ride but there just wasn't time. Parking sucked- especially since the recent rain had left the lot a muddy mess. The pavilion with picnic tables was perfect for cake and food. Would love to look into this site for future parties- we all had a great time! read more

Book this place for kids of all ages. I just happen to come across this businsses out of no where. The kids loves playing with all the toys on hand. The animals were great and well kept by cowboy mike. you can tell he takes really good care of the animals and the people that they come in contact with. This was by far the best birthday party venue I've ever been to!! We had my 3 year old's birthday here & I loved it so much that I'm having it there again next year. They were SO friendly & accommodating to all of my needs. I forgot a cake cutter, they had it. Forgot candles, they had it. They have snowcone machines & popcorn machines to rent!! There are fans all around so even though the birthday was in July, it wasn't that hot. The kids had so much fun because there's so many activities going on at all times!!! Even the adults were riding the train & playing the games! They made my daughter feel so special when they got on the microphone and introduced her as the birthday girl. The best part was the pony rides. It's a PINK pony!!! What more can a little girl ask for!?!? It's been 4 months since the party & people are still talking about how awesome of a party it was!! My children and guests were yelled at by Mike and called heathens! There was a bee in the stagecoach and my special needs child started screaming. This is what I was told. As I walked up Mike had the kids outside together yelling at them telling them they that need to listen when he says something and that he wasnt going to put up with a bunch of heathens. I thought he was joking but it was apparent he was serious. My daughter was mortified and she said there was a bee and he yelled back at her saying I told you I killed it. I asked another parent who was there and he confirmed everything. Mike walked off so I approached his wife and asked if he always yells at the kids. She told me no, that he was upset that someone broke one of the ducks wings. Later on I approached Mike and asked what happened. He raised his voice and started arguing with me and telling me he was going to cut the price down because he wasnt going to do the magic show which we had agreed to. He told me he dies this for a living and he has to have total control of the kids or it is not going to happen. He said he is not going to deal with a bunch of heathens. When I asked about calling the kids that he said I would never say that to their faces, I assured him I heard those words come out of his mouth, he said no i didnt. He also went on to say I should have told him my child had special needs and she didnt look like she was. He said he would have been softer with her. He also went on to say he doesnt like working with little boys because they are worse. I told him that we had an agreement and he most certainly was going to do the magic show, and that these kids weregoing to have a good time because we had an agreement and I am paying him. After that he calmed down and went on as planned. Never in my life have I been around a person who works with kids who clearly stated he didnt like working with kids (boys). We had agreed on 3 phone calls that there would be 2 ponies, 1 pink, 1 blue, a bounce house, and pony painting at the end, stage coach rides, train rides and games. We only had 1 pony and didnt get to paint because he had another party starting at the exact time my party ended. The staff was great, but Mike, not so much. After paying $550.00 and not getting what we agreed to multiple times I am not satisfied with this place and would not reccommend to anyone. read more

Fantastic fun! We held our 3rd birthday party for our little girl here just yesterday. What a fabulous party venue. We had 21 kids from 8 months to 6 years old and they all had a great time, as did the parents. Ellie was delighted to be able to ride Sugar and loved the train, stage coach and bounce house. So much for the kids to do. Cowboy Mike, Cowgirl Marian and their helpers could not have been nicer or more welcoming. The two hours flew by and we have one very happy birthday girl. Today four parents of guests have contacted me to say how much their kids enjoyed the party. Really pleased we picked Hitchin Post! read more

We attended a party this past weekend and had so much fun. The kids were able to pet a couple of ducks, rabbit and a pig. Everyone seems really nice and helpful. Our kids loved the colorful pony along with the train and stagecoach rides. We were able to sit and relax under the pavilion while they played some games like tug-o-war!..too cute. It's outdoors and there were some love bugs and the kids got a little dirty, but hey they had a great time. I am sure we will be back. read more

The perfect pony experience! The ponies are beautiful, very well cared for, and extremely gentle. I am very pleased with how clean and tidy the facility was, considering that we were at a barn. They have so many different animals to look at and even pet. There are so many games and moonwalks. It's like every time you turn around there was something else to play with or on. Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian took the kids on a Train / Stagecoach ride. Wow, now that was a blast! These kids took part in a WILD WEST SHOOTOUT. Cowboy Mike and Cowgirl Marian were so helpful and accommodating. Cowboy Mike performed an awesome Magic Show. He incorporated the kids in it as much as possible and even some of the parents. How about that? No one was left out at our party! All of our guests had a blast. If you're looking for a pony party, this is the place to be! We definitely will be coming back! read more

BEWARE! Please do not book a birthday party with Mike. I booked a party 55 days before the party. I spoke with Mike, he said no problem and he didn't have any other parties booked on that day. It will be a 100.00 deposit and you can drop it off when ever you want, no hurry. 3 weeks before the party is to take place I see Mike and his wife. I remind them we have a party coming up in 3 weeks and need to drop off the deposit. He said "no problem, take your time". My husband and his wife witnessed the conversation. One week before the party after I have over 20 RSVP's. I have to call him once again to remind him of the deposit. At that time he has no recollection of our conversation . I resent him the text message of the booking 55 days in advance and his confirmation. He will not return phone calls. When my husband finally was able to reach him he said there is nothing he can do. He has another party and hung up. My point is, this is a one man or 2 man show with no set policies or procedures or contract in place. So if you book a party you may as well roll the dice and hope he doesn't forget! Very unprofessional and I really hope you think twice before you crush your child's dreams when their party gets cancelled. Now I have 30+ people to call and tell them a party has been cancelled. I will make sure my guests never book a party with Hitchin Post Ponies. read more
