I recently inherited a 2004 Toyota Camry XLE with over 255K miles that had been sitting in a Los…read moreAngeles storage warehouse for about 3 years. After driving it around Los Angeles for a few days, my husband felt we should ship it or tow it with a rented truck and car carrier because of its age, mileage and not knowing the car's mechanical and repair history, which makes a lot of common sense but was cost prohibitive. Because of my sense of adventure, I talked him into a one way road trip from LA with the car after promising to have it evaluated with a reputable mechanic once we got home. We drove it to Orlando after buying it a new battery, windshield wipers and got an oil change. I had seen a lot of positive Nextdoor posts about Mike the Mechanic in Winter Garden, so I went there yesterday for a detailed inspection because of things we noticed about the car during the road trip home. When I made the appointment with Brad, he told me to bring him a list of things I thought needed special attention in addition to the general inspection. After doing so when I returned on appointment day and after the mechanic's inspection, Brad sat down with me and patiently explained to me in terms I could understand line by line what all his mechanic said was wrong, including the function of each part, to the point it just didn't make sense to spend any more money on the car, especially since the worst problem was a fuel line leak, which explains the constant smell of gas in the car that I dismissed as accidental gas spill before we took possession. Needless to say I was shocked because we never saw any exterior floor leaks after parking the car wherever we went but somehow miraculously made it home safely by the Grace of God, sometimes driving on I-10 with speeds over 80mph in Texas. All of the other things wrong were fixable but the cost of fixing EVERYTHING would equal the cost of 3 of the same type used car. I've heard so many horror stories about how mechanics take advantage of women, so being an elderly woman I was very impressed and appreciative of Brad's (and the mechanic's) honest assessment because to look at the car and the fact it was driveable for such a long distance on the highways over a week, you would never know so much was wrong. He also suggested that if I am interested in buying a used car, bring it in for an inspection for free before signing on the dotted line. Saying all that to say I won't be using Mike the Mechanic or any other mechanic to work on my unsafe inherited car but will use him for our other cars. HONESTY is their virtue so quality is a given. I recommend calling Brad for an appointment at Mike the Mechanic, (407) 877-3933, 1143 E Plant St Winter Garden, FL 34787.

After switching out the gas cap, the light still didn't go off. We scheduled an appointment with them and they were kind and quick to get us in. My husband dropped off my car at 2:00pm on a Friday and the place was packed! That's always a good sign as others are using them, too. They were prompt in getting us in, communicating with us, and fixing the issue. In addition, they didn't even charge us because it was simply just resetting the light. We will definitely be going back to Mikes!

DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!!!…read more This shop is not good. They charge a ton for "diagnosing" problems. Which you are on the hook for even if you don't do the work. They claim it's part of being transparent, but was not at all. If they assume you know nothing about cars they will try to take you for whatever they can. Took it in for brake pad change, they charged $90 for "full break system diagnostic" and recommended to change pads and rotors (which I already told them was the issue). Brakes now squeak worse than when I took it in. Plus the ABS light is on (was not going in). So....expensive break job that actually made it worse. More concerning: they severed the ground wire from engine to body. Then they tucked the loose wire away so I wouldn't see it assuming I wouldn't know what it was. Totally unacceptable and dangerous. Pictures of the damage attached.

This was our second time bringing our car here and for sure the last. And now after reading reviews…read moreI think they were the reason why our car broke down only after a month after going there for the first time. Honestly, it was almost funny how insane some of the prices were. They tried to charge us for parts and labor like 3-5 times more than actual BMW dealers do. For example, a part that costs $500 on official BMW websites they told us is $1300, and labor for it was $2000. I really don't know how they come up with these numbers. Another thing, spark plugs that cost like $50 online they wanted $770 for them!! How did they even come up with this!? Plus insane labor price. Please be careful if you decide to take your car here. Do some research before agreeing to anything, because they SHAMELESSLY tried to take advantage of us. And I also regret paying $300 for the diagnostic check. The first time we came they did it for free, and now suddenly it's 300. Overall, not a good experience at all.
