After driving it around Los Angeles for a few days, my husband felt we should ship it or tow it with a rented truck and car carrier because of its age, mileage and not knowing the car's mechanical and repair history, which makes a lot of common sense but was cost prohibitive. Because of my sense of adventure, I talked him into a one way road trip from LA with the car after promising to have it evaluated with a reputable mechanic once we got home. We drove it to Orlando after buying it a new battery, windshield wipers and got an oil change. I had seen a lot of positive Nextdoor posts about Mike the Mechanic in Winter Garden, so I went there yesterday for a detailed inspection because of things we noticed about the car during the road trip home. When I made the appointment with Brad, he told me to bring him a list of things I thought needed special attention in addition to the general inspection. After doing so when I returned on appointment day and after the mechanic's inspection, Brad sat down with me and patiently explained to me in terms I could understand line by line what all his mechanic said was wrong, including the function of each part, to the point it just didn't make sense to spend any more money on the car, especially since the worst problem was a fuel line leak, which explains the constant smell of gas in the car that I dismissed as accidental gas spill before we took possession. Needless to say I was shocked because we never saw any exterior floor leaks after parking the car wherever we went but somehow miraculously made it home safely by the Grace of God, sometimes driving on I-10 with speeds over 80mph in Texas. All of the other things wrong were fixable but the cost of fixing EVERYTHING would equal the cost of 3 of the same type used car. I've heard so many horror stories about how mechanics take advantage of women, so being an elderly woman I was very impressed and appreciative of Brad's (and the mechanic's) honest assessment because to look at the car and the fact it was driveable for such a long distance on the highways over a week, you would never know so much was wrong. He also suggested that if I am interested in buying a used car, bring it in for an inspection for free before signing on the dotted line. Saying all that to say I won't be using Mike the Mechanic or any other mechanic to work on my unsafe inherited car but will use him for our other cars. HONESTY is their virtue so quality is a given. After switching out the gas cap, the light still didn't go off. We scheduled an appointment with them and they were kind and quick to get us in. My husband dropped off my car at 2:00pm on a Friday and the place was packed! That's always a good sign as others are using them, too. They were prompt in getting us in, communicating with us, and fixing the issue. In addition, they didn't even charge us because it was simply just resetting the light. This Davenport location was busy, but they still contacted me swiftly and informed me that they had availability at this Kissimmee location (which was actually closer to me, so even better!). They were able to quickly get me in the next day (the could have even done same-day if I wasn't busy), and replaced both headlights for under $160 total. Staff were friendly and super helpful. The Kissimmee location may have been closer now, but I will definitely be checking out this Davenport location when I move closer to it soon!

I politely said no thank you and went to another mechanic. I showed them Christian brothers estimate and they laughed. They fixed everything for $500. Some examples. To replace headlight was $1000 other mechanic was $200. Also Christian brothers said my power steering fluid was leaking and could fixed for roughly 400-600. Turns out it wasn't leaking at all. Just be cautious and maybe get a second opinion if you see an outrageous estimate.

I found this shop just down the road from me and scheduled an oil change and check-up since my car hit 120k miles. I ended up having to get my serpentine belt replaced and my front brake pads and rotors replaced (which was expected based on the lovely array of noises my car was making). They had a few other replacement suggestions but made me aware which things were more urgent for safety. The best part is he took me out to my car and showed me exactly where the wear and tear was and explained every aspect. They were super accommodating and able to do my oil change, flush and replace my brake fluid, replace my serpentine belt, and replace my front end brake pads and rotors in about 2.5 hours same day which was amazing because I expected to have to leave my car or come back a different day and the pricing was very fair. Everyone at the shop is also friendly and hospitable which can be hard to come by in the industry so that was very refreshing. I'll also note that they truly showed their trustworthiness as there was a guy that was there before me getting his car checked out and they advised his car was likely still under warranty - he checked and it was so they advised he go to the dealer to get the work done for free instead of having them do the work and spend unnecessary money. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a trustworthy shop with reasonable pricing! The shop dog is also a cutie and fun to hang out with while you wait for your car!

However, my mother took her car here and funny enough was given the SAME exact diagnosis for the same $1000+ bill. Never did the work they suggested and my car is still running like a charm so just another greedy owner who wants to take money where they can. Any work I've had done to my car since has never been anywhere close to the price they wanted to charge. It's unfortunate that you cannot trust these professions anymore, I strongly suggest finding a trustworthy mechanic who won't take advantage of you.
