Crispy rougamo braised pork
Annie Y.

There are plenty of parking spaces. I ordered the Crispy Rougamo with signature braised pork and popcorn chicken. The Crispy Rougamo was good and crispy, but the braised pork was a bit dry. The popcorn chicken was super good though! It was very well seasoned. Recommendation(s): - Popcorn Chicken Service: 5/5 Tip(s): - Plenty of parking spaces - Accept Apple Pay

I was in the area and curious how this place compared to another Chinese burger spot I tried. The restaurant is located in a plaza with several other Chinese food spots, and parking was fairly easy to find around 1:30 PM on a Saturday. When you walk in, the staff seats you and you order by scanning a QR code to view the menu, and then you pay at the register on the way out. There wasn't much interaction with the employee, but she did bring us a water container. The restaurant was moderately busy with several groups dining, and our food came out pretty quickly after ordering. I ordered the popcorn chicken and the beef and pork rougamo (Chinese burgers). Since the popcorn chicken doesn't come with sauce, I was worried it might be dry, but it ended up being flavorful and well-seasoned. It was nicely crunchy without being tough, and the chicken was juicy and tender with no chewy or fatty pieces, even in the larger bites. Toward the end of the meal, it did taste a bit salty. The rougamo was decent overall but heavier than I expected. The pork rougamo was tender but fatty, which made it feel rich and oily. The beef rougamo was more enjoyable and tender, with a flavor similar to a stir-fry with onions, though the taste started to feel repetitive after a while. Overall, it was a decent meal, but a bit too heavy for my taste. It's possible they're known for their noodles, and we just ordered wrong.

Food is amazing according to my mama. Especially the pastry dough. She makes her own so she knows the effort put in these thousand layers Service is so so. We had to ask for refills. And try to get attention when we ask for check. Maybe cuz they are getting a lot of to go orders Ambience is family ZAP ZAP ZAP every other minute. There's a bug killer zapping above the door. Annoyed my hubby but there's a lot of bugs here for some reason. Will come again? For to go. Prob not to eat in.

I'm really glad we found this place, and it's highly recommended if you are slightly adventurous and trying out some ethnic Chinese flavors. Everything we ordered was excellent. We knew the crispy lamb buns (aka Chinese Burger) was going to be good, but not sure about the $20 fried pork which was #1 chef recommendations, it turned out to be delightful. The lamb soup came out first, it was tasty and refreshing, Liang pi was cool, you don't get it in many places. String beans were nicely done, a delicious necessity to balance out the meal. The first bite of crispy lamb buns was a delightful surprise: crunchy layered thin bread and lamb with slightly cumin, it was an amazing feast. Fried pork is an even more interesting surprise that I would not spoil. Ha ha. Try it to find out! Service was fine, we were seats and water was provided quickly. Orders are done by scanning QR code, browsing the online menu, and order directly. I find this efficient but lacking some personal interactions. We did purposely ordered a lot for the two of us, we obviously didn't finish. I was surprised the bill wasn't as much as I expected. We got a lot of leftovers to go and enjoyed rest at home.

We made a return visit to try out Crispy Rougamo's expanded menu. Sliced Pig Ears in Chili Oil were perfectly thin sliced and spicy. Chicken Steak with Rice was crispy, tender and delicious. The only miss was the Fish-Flavored Shredded Pork Bowl which was too sweet for my liking. Having said that, the Crispy Rougamo beef buns are their specialty and still the top menu item I'd recommend!

Just go here for one item: Rougamo Popcorn chicken 3.5/5 $9 Crunch is on the outside with all the bits, and it's well marinaded, but overall feels a little soft when you bite into it .. idk how to explain lol but it's easy to eat. I asked for spicy powder, but they said they don't have any. Don't expect extra seasoning on the outside. Large quantity for $9 Rougamo with cumin spiced lamb 5/5 Worth the cals. Love the flakey and light bun with the flavorful meat. The best item of the bunch lol meat wasn't gamey ! Liang pi 3.5/5 $7 Not bad, was better with vinegar and chili oil. Noodles are a touch softer than Six Alley. Fried gluten seemed smaller than I'm used to. Chili oil 3/5 Is ok, it adds extra flavor but I prefer a more robust chili oil. Beef noodle soup 2/5 Skip this, there's much better.

Decent, northern China selections w classic choices (锅包肉,地三鲜). But the potato x eggplant x peppers was just ok. The burger w pork was just ok, flaky but not much flavor. The chicken gizzard was very flavorful but was SUPER spicy I almost fainted.

Tasty cheap eats! This was an awesome find while in Irvine! Cheap and so tasty! I wish they opened a store in LA!

Came here with some friends for lunch on a Sunday. My friends were recommended this place so we decided to try it. Food: 5/5 This place is known for their crispy rougamo. We got to try their beef, shredded pork, and lamb. The buns were super crispy and flakey while the meats were juicy and flavorful. Their noodles were also very tasty, but were a little under seasoned. Their popcorn chicken was really good and super crispy. I really liked their five spice flavor. Their cauliflower was also really good. I would recommend getting their dishes more than their noodles. Service: 5/5 For a Sunday afternoon, at 1:00pm, it wasn't too busy. We got seated pretty quickly and our servers brought out waters and everything for us right away. When we placed our order, everything came out really quick. The buns were nice and warm and still super crispy when they came out. Ambiance: 4/5 This place is cute. Nothing really stood out in terms of decor or interior. Here for the food, and not the ambiance.

This is a must visit spot if you want to try authentic northwestern chinese food! The rougamo is SOOO CRISPY. I'm definitely coming back for takeout next time. I also tried the liang pi but it was pretty watered down by the garlic water so I wouldn't recommend it as much. Service is chill. They're pretty busy and seem family owned so sometimes very hectic. The place is great for family, friends, and if you're just craving northwestern chinese food!

As a native of Xian, China, eating rougamo is something I grew up with and I know how hard it is to make it perfect. I was super excited when this restaurant opened a while back. After trying for the first time, I was super impressed by how great they made them here. The bread is INCREDIBLY crispy, which is what makes or breaks the rougamo in my opinion. Pork is the classic and go-to, always cooked well and tasty. I've tried the other various dishes on the menu as well which are all solid too. So happy they opened here locally in Irvine. Definitely a staple breakfast spot when craving authentic Chinese rougamo or other breakfast!

I was recently in Xi'an and had a few rougamos there so I was interested in seeing how it is here. My friend had recommended this place to me a couple months back saying she really enjoyed the liang pi and rougamo. My boyfriend and I ordered a beef to share and while the flavor was great and I love how flakey and crispy the bread was. It was disappointing that the ratio of beef to onion was 1:1. If there was less onion and more beef it would've been better. Definitely interested in trying a few other things on the menu when I have more time.

We ordered a bunch of food and barely had enough room on the table. They even have hot pot, but we didn't have enough space to try it this time! Some of my favorites were the juicy pork dumplings, beef roll, and pork wontons in spicy sauce. The charcoal-grilled items were also fun to try, and there's still so much more on the menu I want to come back for! We ordered: * Juicy pork dumplings * Beef roll * Pork wontons in spicy sauce * Charcoal BBQ chives * Chicken skewers * Charcoal-grilled chicken cartilage * Spicy pickled vegetable with beef noodle soup * Pork potstickers Definitely a great spot to check out if you're craving Chinese food and want lots of options!

I went into Northern Cafe with a serious craving of dim sum-- specifically looking for a location that was not overpriced and had a good selection. However, I am saddened to sat that a majority of what we ordered did not live up to my expectations. Here's the breakdown of what we ordered: 1. Beef rolls - 5/5 Absolutely phenomenal! I was just expecting this to be an overhyped dish after reading through various reviews raving on how good this was, and plus I'm not super fond of beef. But this was just wow...pure perfection with some sweetness from the beef tuning so well with the savoriness of the vegetables! The best dish we had by far. 2. Chicken potstickers - 4/5 These were okay! Nothing really to write home about, but loved the crispiness of them. Flavor wise...let's just say a lot of vinegar and soy sauce was used. 3. Juciy Chicken Dumplings - 3/5 Honestly disappointed in this one! Was expecting to bite into the dumplings filled with flavorful broth; only to be left with biting through a semi-tough dumpling that had barely and broth to consider it "juicy". It's definitely not the worst, but I would not recommend getting. 4. Shrimp Wontons - 2/5 Biggest disappointment for me! I had a similar dish at the Campus Drive location and was in love with the flavors for that one. But this? The vegetable used for the filling made gag each time I chewed through it, and it didn't complement the shrimp at all. I think it would have been better with chicken filling, but still disappointed at how the shrimp variation came out. Service was great! The waitress who served us seated up right away and gave us clear instructions. Ambience was good as well, as it was very easy going for a Saturday morning. Overall: I don't recommend coming here for the dumplings. However, I'm sure their stir fry and noodle dishes are a lot better!

The staff were very friendly and helpful as I didn't know anything about biáng biáng noodles. The noodles in the soup were so soft with a perfect amount of chew. The broth had some sesame in it that gave it a creamy appearance and rich flavor. The beef chunks were nicely seasoned and cooked. Half of a hard boiled egg, cilantro, radish, and green onion rounded out the dish. I went with a medium spice which was perfect but I could've handled more. Next time I'll try it spicier. The cucumber salad was cold, crunchy, and fresh with a perfect kick on the back end. All in all a nice random lunch at a new spot I had never been to. Some menu items are being discontinued, my rice came out cold, and a few of the decor choices seemed a little tacky. Meizhou is a great option for special occasions because the interior feels upscale and is one of the nicer-looking restaurants in the area. Today, we ordered the Sichuan Cold Noodles, Vegetable Fried Rice, Angus Beef Filet With Black Pepper, Chicken Pot-Stickers (six pieces), Dongpo Pork Belly With Preserved Vegetable, Garlic Stir-Fried A Choy and white rice. Unfortunately, the white rice came out cold, almost as if it had been sitting in the refrigerator. Thankfully, our server replaced it immediately, but it was still an odd experience. My favorite dish here is the Angus Beef Filet With Black Pepper. The meat is high quality, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. Meizhou is also well-known for its duck. We didn't order it today, but the half duck is always another great option! The meat practically melts in your mouth, which is one of my favorite things about it. Service has always been hit or miss here, so I think your experience really depends on which server you get. I love the food overall, although some dishes feel overpriced for the portion sizes. That said, the quality of the food is generally great. One last thing I noticed today, which isn't a huge deal but stood out to me, was a cup in the women's restroom containing a hairbrush, toothpaste and a toothbrush for customers to use. For a restaurant with such an upscale atmosphere, this felt a little out of place and tacky. Overall, Meizhou is definitely worth trying if you love duck or are looking for a nicer restaurant for a special occasion. I still enjoy the food here, but I'm curious to see how things change under the new ownership!

I loved both the variety of dishes and the prices. There were so many things I wanted to try, but I decided to save some for future visits. Haha. We ordered the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), a noodle dish, the Beef Roll, and the Scallion Pancake. The food came out pretty quickly, and we started trying everything one by one. OMG. Everything was SO GOOD!! Honestly, every single dish exceeded my expectations. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The Beef Roll was especially impressive because it had more beef inside than the ones I've tried at other restaurants. The Xiao Long Bao was juicy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! The Scallion Pancake was perfectly crispy on the outside, with that wonderful savory flavor. And the noodles! I can't remember the exact name, but I think it had "Golden" in it? Haha. It had a unique flavor that I'd never experienced before, with a little spicy kick. Even though it was spicy, it was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating until the bowl was completely empty! While we were eating, I suddenly thought about my family at home, so I ordered another Beef Roll to go. And here's another thing that really impressed me: **THE SERVICE!** The employee who helped us with the bill was incredibly friendly and pleasant. I was genuinely happy to leave a tip because the service was that good! But what happened afterward impressed me even more. After paying, I went to use the restroom. The hallway leading to it was somewhat narrow, and whenever I passed an employee, they politely stepped aside to let me through first. It might seem like a small gesture, but I really appreciated it. It felt like treating customers with kindness and respect was simply second nature to everyone working there. Great food, wonderful service, AND reasonable prices? What more could I ask for?! Honestly, **why would I go to Din Tai Fung when I have 7 Grams?!** Haha! From now on, whenever I'm craving Xiao Long Bao, 7 Grams will be my first choice!
