ECB gets four stars from me, but only just. Now that may sound a bit negative, but like so much in life, it's complicated. Let's start with the food. It does burgers, smash style. It does them well. Very well. For a style of cooking that emphasizes the crusty exterior, the patties are surprisingly juicy. The quality of meat is also apparent: it does taste like angus beef and apparently grass-fed at that. To most palettes, that may not be noticeable. To mine at least, it was, and I was appreciative. Let's go to the sides: fries and onion rings. While they are lightly fried and not overly greasy, I am far less enamored with these accompaniments. The fries are lightly flavored with an msg shake, but the flavor still bordered on the bland. Salt and plentiful amounts of ketchup were required to pep them up. Moving lastly to the drinks: fountain sodas and shakes. The former are what they are (if you like Pepsi products; I'm more of a Coke man myself). The shakes are estimable. The coffee shake hits the spot for my ever-present coffee urges. And the price? Well, this is where we hit a real snag. With the exception of the prohibitive Hamburger Hut, Eat Crispy Burger is more expensive than other comparable local burger joints. They do charge a lot for their fare. Between lackluster fries and the prices, I was frankly leaning towards three stars. Two things pushed me the other way. First, of course, is that doing business, especially in the food industry, is expensive. Encinitas, too, ain't cheap. But the other thing that convinced me to give them four stars was the fact ECB is not a franchise or chain restaurant. They are a one-off (at least, for now), without the same access as large chains to suppliers. As a local business, they are worth the extra cost. So while I may not come here with enormous regularity, if I feel like a quality double cheeseburger with all the fixins, I know where to go. read more

Will definitely return! Their fries are perfect- crispy and soft; I've NEVER liked In n Out fries. Onions rings likewise, super crispy yet lightly battered. Burgers were excellent- Hamburger Hut had over cooked the meat to shoeleather, the one time I tried it- this meat was moist and juicy. I got the double OG but wish I'd gotten the All American w the lettuce and tomatoes. Next time! My adult son got a triple OG but couldn't finish it. We all had milkshakes and I loved that it was immediately drinkable and I didn't have to let it sit and soften first. And the staff were awesome! Just had the most delicious meal here! The menu is simple and I love a good smashburger. I wish I tried everything but I definitely had to get their burger and sides. I like how they give you the option of half fries and half onion rings. Both were indeed crispy and so addicting! The fries had this light golden batter and had a different seasoning salt to it which I loved! For my burger, I got the OG and tried their burger bowl. The bowl was a nice option for those who want to stay low carb and it was just as tasty! I regretted not ordering a milkshake, but the owner was so sweet and gave me a sample of the strawberry milkshake! My husband and I stopped here as we were looking to see what to have for lunch and we were absolutely blown away. We saw the yelp reviews, and the food and customer service did not disappoint. We both had the OG double crispy burger, my husband added egg and peppers and mine was just as is. It was easy top 3 burgers we've honestly ever had. This beats Freddy's by a long shot - not even comparable. The gentleman ringing us up was super kind and very helpful. The inside is vibrant and gives a very home made feel. You can see them cooking everything in the front and it smells DELICIOUS We went to a park near by to enjoy our meal and it was STEAMING hot. The onions were cooked perfectly, the cheese melted so nicely and omg as im writing this I am so sad that it's so far away from me because I would keep going back. Eat Crispy Burger is aptly named since that's exactly what I did here. Well, not actually in the restaurant since there's no seating. More on that later. I stopped here on my way home from San Diego as I was craving a solid burger. This place did not disappoint. The burgers were cooked perfectly and were very flavorful. The bun was nice and soft. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. The servers were friendly, and the burgers were whipped up in 5 minutes or so. The only downside, and I hope this is temporary, is that you can't eat inside. Parking is very limited as this place shares a lot with a large, well known coffee shop. The drive-thru line of cars from said coffee shop makes it also difficult to park and/or exit your parking spot.
