My daughter was back in town from college on spring break and she wanted to have lunch at Crisp. She had worked one summer at a place something like this and wanted a little déjà vu! Excellent lunch today and we sat outside. Crisp is a salad made-to-order and they have a very organized system. Yes, there are some excellent suggestions including Baja (black beans, cheddar, chipotle ranch), Caesar (parmesan garlic croutons, romaine lettuce) and Greek (cucumber, tomatoes, feta cheese, olives) but you can also assemble your salad your way from the different lettuces, toppings, proteins and dressings. And they mix it up right in front of you and it's ready to go. I chose the Cobb salad and it was delicious. Tomatoes, hard boiled egg (sliced up right then!), blue cheese crumbles, diced chicken, bacon, and blue cheese dressing, thoroughly mixed with romaine lettuce. It was, uh, crisp. I travel for work and whenever there's a healthy option I'm always so excited. This is my first time in Lynchburg. The man running the salad bar was annoyed and unfriendly. I told him what I wanted then he messed it up and added chicken. I told him I wanted steak as I originally told him. He remade the sale then he rushed me down the lane and i didn't get to add the veggies I wanted to my salad. Decent- not the best place I've been! I ordered from crisp while visiting in Lynchburg yesterday and did a BYO bowl with grains + salad, I also got the Baja salad for dinner. My BYO bowl was good, but I added steak and couldn't eat much of the steak at all with how undercooked it was. Best food in Lynchburg. I moved away a few years ago but visit regularly and I have to come to Crisp every time! The salads are FRESH, most of the dressings are house made, and the ingredients are quality. I worked here for a few months in college and can attest that they have high standards to all their processes. The juice is a little pricey but you are buying actual fresh pressed produce. You would be surprised at the amount of fruit and vegetables it takes to fill that cup! Finally tried this restaurant since I'm trying to eat healthier and had two of my kids with me who were on board and had tried it already. There are a lot of choices and I think you can get any salad in a wrap also but I decided on a Greek salad with chicken added. The guy who made my salad was friendly and helpful and there was plenty to fill me up. My kids both took home leftovers but I ate all mine. We each got a roll too, which my kids recommended. Well like sometimes you get real crazy about a place and then disappointment sets in.The last time we were there, we had the same salad. We both ended up in The ER food poisoning. In fact, a couple of days later we received a call from the health department, evidently the bug we got is considered a community infection and detrimental. We have never gone back since. Unfortunately you can get a vegetarian dish. We got a chicken dish and the health department said it was campylobacter after we released the hospital records. OK, I admit it is hard to get excited about a salad place. But if you add steak to the salad Bam!, now you have excitement! I got the steakhouse salad. The steak portion was healthy and the steak was tender and cooked to perfection. It goes on cold but that did not take away from its flavor. I'm giving this 3.5 stars ! This downtown crisp is definitely the best one out of the two! Crisp has delicious salads and wraps , the reason I'm giving it 3.5 stars is because at least half of the time I go in here they are out of some kind of ingredient for my salad - mainly the falafel which is always such a disappointment. They have freaking bomb falafel although I did find out the workers said they do not make it in house they buy it pre packaged and then fry it - but even then it's still really good. I am also giving it 3.5 stars because the salads are pretty pricey - if you want even a little bit of extra cheese they tell you it's an up charge ... even with that being said I still pay the money because the salads are freaking bomb. So overall I would say this is a great place to go however it doesn't do locally sourced meats or even locally sourced anything so that is also a down side . read more

I was very underwhelmed by my experience at Crisp. I was super excited to try it as I am a bug fan of salads. They also have lots of options so I was excited to try some of their unique salad combinations. However, my salad was super underwhelming. They mainly use romaine which is truly the most flavorless and nutrient-less green out there.
