Southern fried quail with a delish cucumber feta parsley slaw
John M.

I have now been serval times. Each time there are new small plates and I have yet to be disappointed!!! The beer selection has improved and oh yes...the wait staff...wonderful!! Prior reivew: Excellent small plates.  I had the duck leg and egg plate, which was a special and the smoke salmon.  Sadly out of the Kafta and Mediterranean hummus or they would have made my list.  Service at the bar was great.  The atmosphere is relaxed and quite.  I had the St George IPA but there was little choice after  that unless you count Pabst and Dos Equis XX.

This place was a nice find. A short walk from the Virginian hotel I was staying in. A small place with a nice vibe. Soft jazz music. Warm lighting. There's a small bar and a few tables. Was mostly full but with no wait at 5:30 on a Tuesday. The spinach salad was huge and fresh and delicious. The pork tacos were generously filled and nicely seasoned. Only two servers working. They were busy but didn't make me feel rushed. Definitely will return next time I'm in the area.

My recent visits to this well established downtown restaurant have been during happy hours. Those are very nice with a good selection and a discount on some drinks. Happy hours have seemed to become less common since Covid so I am always glad when a nearby place keeps up this tradition. But my daughter is in town from NYC so we went a little later and partake to from their menu. My daughter had no problem finding good vegetarian options and a glass of white wine. I had one of the dark beers on draft. Actually, I had two! The food was great with the roasted beets being notable. Most of the selections run around $10 as well as the drinks. So if you are two people and get two selections each plus a couple of drinks each, you will run up a pretty good tab. I will probably try to revert to the happy hour with slightly reduced prices And plenty of options in the future. But looking at the yard on the walls is free and that is terrific. They told me the kitchen closes at 9:30 PM although they are open much later with bar service. A popular downtown spot late at night until 1 AM.

I came back to dish to give their dining another shot and I'm proud to say that the French fries I received this time around were crispy and delicious! Sadly they didn't have any more garlic aioli when I ate there. Another update is that the hot Italian sandwich I received was oddly salty. Like I get that Italian sandwich meat can be a bit on the saltier side but the combination of olives, salami, and debatably more seasoning made it a bit too salty. Also the bread instead of being something crusty with character and chew was a soft spineless, near falling apart loaf. Nothing more to say in this update. I'm also a bit interested as to why the regular menu is so much more affordable than their specials.

Small cozy atmosphere, nice wall decor. Looked like local artists. Had the Brussels sprouts with goat cheese bacon chips chili flakes and honey. Excellent choose sliced in half. I also had the fried oysters with bacon jam and horseradish cream sauce great not overpowering. Lightly fried phenomenal flavor. Others at table had the gobi Manchurian, curry fried cauliflower in chili sauce, great choice and fried calamari which I tasted and totally enjoyed. All we're large portions not cheap but when the food is this good I don't mind paying a little more. This was my first time there and definitely see me going back there soon.

The bar, ready for Halloween.

We had the opportunity to enjoy Easter brunch here, and it delivered the kind of experience you…read morehope for on a holiday morning. The atmosphere struck the right balance. Upscale without being stiff, comfortable without losing that polished feel. I ordered the jambalaya, and it was a standout. Well layered flavor, not overly heavy, with a nice balance of spice and richness. The proteins were cooked properly and the vegetables still had structure, which matters in a dish like that. It felt intentional, not just thrown together for a brunch menu. Across the table, the Eggs Benedict was equally strong. The hollandaise was smooth and properly seasoned, not overly lemony or thick, and the eggs were cooked right where they should be. That is often where places miss, but this one didn't. Dessert was where things really elevated. The strawberry cheesecake was clean, bright, and not overly sweet, with a good texture that held together without being dense. The chocolate Rasberry glutin-free dessert torte, was rich in the right way. Deep chocolate flavor without crossing into heavy or overwhelming. Service was attentive without hovering, and timing between courses was well paced, which is not easy on a busy holiday like Easter. Overall, this is a place that clearly pays attention to execution. Not just presentation, but flavor, balance, and consistency. That is what separates a good brunch from one you remember. We will be back.

Server wasn't much help and said she was new. Service was slow and embarrassingly bad. Our food was subpar and nothing to write home about (we didn't even take photos) - the best bite was the Thai Chili sauce Brussels. 3 out of 4 at our table had a that a veg side and everyone liked them! My wife had a the filet, which wasn't very tender. We came for dinner based on advertisement of a James Beard award winning chef. We've been to many restaurants (not in LYH) that have a James Beard award winning chef- don't be fooled this one wasn't!!!

It's next to a small playground and new amphitheater, so I'm sure this place gets quite busy on weekends. One person in our party said her salad had the best dressing she's ever had. The fried pickles were good. The shrimp was good. One bartender was good. Cons - We walked in and basically weren't sure what to do. There was a woman at we thought was a hostess stand, but she never said anything to us. We finally asked if we needed to check in with her to get seated. We did. But it was kind of weird. One bartender was awful. Never made eye contact. Wouldn't take any orders. Acted like she wanted to be anywhere else. I thought the Caesar salad was ok. It came with lacquered salmon. I would have loved the salmon, but not lacquered. It couldn't be made to order. Ok fine. I ordered it the way it was described. There was nothing lacquered about that salmon. It also was shredded on top of the salad and was maybe two ounces. That's ridiculous. Our server wasn't very helpful and not very attentive. I'm sure many people have had great experiences there, but I'm not sure I would take the time to go back.

It was ok for dinner. Edible but nothing to write home…read moreabout. Soup was bland, tasted canned. No seasoning. Crab cakes fell apart. No taste or flavor. Sweet fries cold. Abby was very attentive and came to the table frequently to check in and do refills. To start off this dining experience, we ordered the crab bites and a couple of clam chowder. First off, the clam chowder was great. It was one of their special items for the week, so it may not be available every visit. The crab bites were just okay in my opinion. The remoulade they were served with did have a good flavor though. I probably wouldn't order this appetizer again on a future visit. I've had a couple of people tell me to try the hushpuppy basket on my next visit. For the main course, I had jambalaya and would definitely have it again. The sausage, shrimp, and chicken were perfectly seasoned with all the Creole spices you want and expect with jambalaya. The people with me had fish and chips, crab cakes, and the Low Country boil with crab legs. Everyone was pleased with their main courses and agreed that they would come back to try more items. Overall, I would say this was a good new option in Lynchburg that's definitely worth a try, especially if you're a seafood lover. Can't wait to see how this restaurant develops after this soft opening week.

Menu…read morewas huge and attempted to be unique however dishes were missing simple things...such as a raw bar that doesn't serve raw oysters on ice, poorly shucked, terrible cocktail sauce, no description of the oyster on the menu. I don't even eat oysters but know these were a failure. I had a sub that was described as being piled high with roast beef and served with an au jus. But instead it was minimal meat on tough bread with a dip made of onions and what tasted like great value brown gravy. It was our first and last visit, honestly if I could go back in time we wouldn't have ever gone the first time. We ended up here because the place we wanted to eat was packed, no issue getting a table here which should have been a sign. Oh and to top it off when it was time to pay we were told sorry we gave your ticket to someone else so here's their ticket, it's about the same as yours a little less probably....umm what? We paid it and left because we were over the entire experience. Oh and whoever on your staff that smokes weed it stinks up the place and just not the vibe we look for in a restaurant that's charging expensive prices for subpar ingredients. When we left we picked up a chicken sandwich at chick fil a just so we had a decent meal this evening.
