Food was great. We had: - Pretzel bites (4/5) they were a bit greasy but still tasted great and the cheese dip and mustard were fantastic. - Southern Belle (5/5) it was fantastic. All the toppings went great together and meat was cooked well (only wish it had been more smashed, was a little thick). Seriously one of the best burgers I've had in a while. - Smashburger (4.5/5) just wished the patty was more smashed. But still good. - Build your own (4.5/5) just wished the patty was more smashed. But still good. - fries and onion rings (4.5/5) these were both very good. - kids grilled cheese (our only complaint was that they didn't have a fruit bowl option) - Downeast cider (5/5) Service was great. Just took a little longer for our food to come out than anticipated (especially with a 19 month old also at the table). I really like this place. I was thinking it was going to be just another pub and bar with OK bar food, but the food was pretty good. There was a lot of flavor. There was to fit your needs rather you want something quick or heavy. They had a large beer selection along with good whiskey. I was able to stay on my health kick and have my burger as a salad and hot honey, cauliflower bites were really, really good. Mediocre service. Meal was served cold. Asked for it to be replaced with a hot sandwich and the server chuckled and asked if we wanted her to take the cold sandwich off the table. We said we preferred she bring a cooked sandwich and and she laughed again. When the bill came we said we shouldn't have to pay for the sandwich with one bite out of it. She said she would check with manager. She returned and said manager would allow 20% off. They lost a good customer that has brought several people here in the past. Never again! read more

Bootleggers was cool. It was on my list of restaurants to try in the Lynchburg Virginia area. We came here on a Friday night. For a party of 3 there was about a 35 min wait. During the wait I ordered a drink at the bar. Pretty decent old fashioned. I've had better. The bartenders were all super nice and helpful. Once seated we ordered apps . Panko crusted onion rings and deviled eggs. Both were good. The portions were perfect for sharing. Entrees: I had just the classic burger (with some pink). It was ok. Definitely seem to be missing something but I enjoyed the burger. Others in my party also had a burger with sweet potato fries and mini corn dogs and tots. They enjoyed their meals. I ordered a beer flight, 3 IPAs and a wheat beer to accompany my meal. The beers were nice. I really enjoyed the service and the ambiance was rustic, large pictures of working people was the decor. It was different but in a good way. Patio seating available and will be perfect in the warmer months ahead. I will definitely be back to this establishment located in downtown Lynchburg! The restaurant is located at the River Front in town has nice decor and is modern. Food was excellent. Ordered one of the specialty burgers and the tots tasted especially good. Only minor complaint was that our server didn't check on us often enough. Nice young lady, maybe she was new but I had to get the manager for us to order more drinks. I loved that pimento grilled cheese was on the menu here! I ordered it without the bacon and with a side of sweet potato fries. Both were delicious. The grilled cheese was filled with an adequate enough of cheese that was creamy and had the right amount of spice, but the bread was a bit burnt on the sides. I still thought the sandwich was enjoyable with well-balanced flavors. The fries were cooked perfectly. The service was prompt and friendly. We were able to eat outside, which was very nice, with a dog as well. I'd love to come back again to try more of what they have to offer. read more

Stopped by Bootleggers at night for a quick bite. I wish I was hungrier because the burgers looked amazing, but we just ordered lite bites to eat. My daughter ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. She enjoyed it, and I had tried some of the chicken which was especially good with a nice char! My wife and I shared an order of wings (half dry rub, half garlic parmesan) and loaded tater tots with cheese, bacon, sour cream and chives. The wings were above average, with good flavor, we both preferred the garlic parmesan. The tater tots also were good with the loaded toppings, but was a bit heavy for our appetite. The sauce also took away from the crispiness of the tots in the bottom which got a bit soggy, although the flavor of the sauce was quite good. I will be back when I am in town, I am still craving the burgers which looked and smelled amazing. read more

We used to love coming here for the burgers, but they changed management in early 2026, and now everything is à la carte. Be prepared to spend $23 -$25 for a burger and fries, and if you want it cooked other than the medium well that they say it comes as standard, you will have to pay extra for that as well- I kid you not. Two burgers and fries (we split an order of fries), and we were out the door $54 later. It's good but not THAT good. I make it better at home on the grill, so we'll be looking for another place to do burgers. Not going back to Bootleggers again, just not worth the price, especially with the people who bring their 3-year-olds and let them scream at the top of their lungs (we counted 16 times while we were there) and didn't do anything about it. Way to ruin a night out for those of us who hired a babysitter so we could go out and enjoy a quiet, relaxing dinner without doing any work. Well, that's what we hoped for anyway. Bootleggers is basically an adult version of Red Robin. The burgers are amazing and come with very interesting toppings. I ordered the Port wine and Blue Cheese Burger which was awesome. If you love blue cheese or Port Wine...this is the burger for you. The parm and truffle fries were worth the price. Bootleggers provides an excellent dinner environment for anyone in the Lynchburg area. There are a variety of great appetizers that are available to start off- such as the tremendous buffalo chicken dip. Furthermore, the portions sizes are very generous (especially with the sweet potato fries). You can sit in the relaxing booths, the bar, or get the outdoor view of the beautiful Lynchburg hills. The servers provide great recommendations on what to eat- but no matter what you get you should be satisfied. The only big issue with this restaurant is parking, as this is very tricky in Lynchburg, but this restaurant on the cliff is nevertheless a solid choice. read more

This may be my favorite review to write, EVER! Two years ago, today, we went to Bootleggers for the first time. Like today, the weather was perfect and we started out enjoying an outdoor patio table. We were looking to move out of the Richmond area and hadn't really considered Lynchburg until that night. We had an enjoyable meal.... Great cocktail, beer list and burgers! Then off to El Jefe, a sister restaurant, where the bartender sealed the deal by sharing more about Lynchburg with us. Fast forward to today, as we began our evening at one of the outdoor patio tables, we noticed some of our dear friends nearing the restaurant! Of course we wanted to dine with them and were graciously moved to the covered patio area. Bootleggers still offers great cocktails ( I had the Blue Mountain Old Fashioned) and a well rounded craft beer menu. Burgers and fries are still the star but I loved my Buffalo Chicken Salad. Service was excellent! The setting is relaxing and inviting! We are so glad we moved to Lynchburg and have a wonderful spot to spent time with friends! read more

Got take out here while passing through. I got the bourbon mushroom burger and LOVED it. It's a little sweet and very tasty. My friend got the Hunter's burger and liked it as well. They were pretty packed (but it was a Friday night) so the order took a little longer than estimated but the staff was very nice and on top of it. Just keep it in mind if you are ordering take out and it's a weekend that the place is pretty popular. 100% I will be stopping back here next time I pass through.
