    Biscuits and Gravy with sausage
    Caitlin N.

Stopped by for Saturday breakfast a few weeks back and Criddle's Cafe was just okay. We were seated rather quickly despite how busy they were, and the staff was very nice. We ordered a cup of coffee and orange juice to drink, a scone to share, and then a Denver omelette and biscuits and gravy for our main meals. For diner food, the portions were decent, but the price for the food was a little high in our opinion. The biscuits and gravy were slightly gelatinous and the eggs were okay to taste and texture. My husband thought the omelette was good but the hash brown potatoes were soggy. Overall, just an okay place for food.

So, this has been our go to place for breakfast for many reasons. The food is always good and so is the service. For many years, we ordered the everything omelette and split it. We would also order a scone and usually a side of bacon or something else like that. Well imagine my shock today when we found we could no longer do that! At least not at an affordable price. Everything on the menu appears to have increased by $1.50 or in that neighborhood. And if you want to split something or share it, that is now $9.99 per person. So your $8.50 cheese omelette now costs you $20.00 if you want to split it. That does not even make sense, and it is clearly spelled out on the menu that way. I can understand a reasonable split plate charge like other restaurants do but double the cost? Don't get me wrong the food is very good as is the service. Yes I will go back just not really soon and when we do we will have to do some crazy menu selections to get what we want at a reasonable price reasonable price.

Scone and chicken fried steak & eggs

Not only excellent, but it was a step black in time for me. The only difference was that the waitress was not a little old Japanese Lady and they didn't have malasadas, nor Portuguese Sausage on the menu. The scone was huge, but delicious. The Chicken Fried Steak and eggs was not only worth it, but desirable to have again. Even the Spousal Unit fell in love with her Raspberry Fritter. That is a major accomplishment especially since she sucked it down. Yep, we have found a new place to enjoy breakfasts.

    How does the scones taste?

Scones are the best you’ll find! The dough and honey butter are made from scratch daily. They are also served covered with cinnamon sugar and a side of icing if you want to try a variation of the traditional. Can’t go wrong either way!

The long: This is the kind of place that you can imagine someone coming here every day for years. Some place that's so deeply intertwined with a random neighborhood and you wouldn't ever know about it unless you came here. It's got character, the scratches in the walls, the adorable tables and chairs, adorable trinkets and treats you can buy, nice baristas up front and some awesome hot chocolate and waffles. Now the only reason I give it 4 instead of five is because it is $6 per waffle, I don't love it but I will admit that they'd get me paying that same $6 every time I went in there. But as I said the aesthetic was perfect. Especially for a coffee date or just taking a seat and reading a book. I genuinely enjoyed my time here, and i believe if you enjoy coffee shops then you would too. Thanks for letting me stop by and eating some killer waffles! 4.25/5

This place is located in a cute and quiet neighborhood, and is pretty cozy. The shop itself offers a warm and welcoming environment and is bustling with customers trying to get their morning fix. Although the shop is a bit small, there is plenty of seating and an open area to wait for your items. Additionally, art and merchandise line the walls, so there is always something to look at. I personally ended up buying a sticker of a painting made by a local artist. As for the drink/pastries I ordered a pumpkin chai with their house made puree and was not disappointed. I enjoyed it a lot. The only downside was it had a slightly odd aftertaste. As for the pastries, I had a blueberry banana muffin and a pumpkin turnover which were just alright. Staff are friendly and personable, even during the chaos of a rush. Lowkey though, the minimum option to tip being 20% is kind of crazy, considering that it is /just/ a small coffee shop. Still gave the tip anyway. Overall, it was a good experience and I enjoyed my drink both mornings I was here. I see why it is always so busy. If i'm in the area again, I'd likely come back. *staff/customers in my attached photos have been blurred to protect their identity.

From the moment I stepped inside, the shop felt inviting, with a warm and cozy atmosphere--perfect for relaxing, catching up on work, simply enjoying a quiet moment, or grabbing a cup to go and wandering through what seemed like an endless Saturday street market, which made the experience feel extra special. On my first visit, I really appreciated how peaceful it felt--the perfect balance of background chatter and calm. The staff were especially friendly earlier in the day, which added to the welcoming atmosphere. My second visit was during a busier part of the day, so it felt a bit more lively with foot traffic, but that energy added its own kind of charm. Every cup I had was thoughtfully prepared, with rich, satisfying flavor. Overall, Grounds for Coffee was a highlight of my trip. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's the kind of place that makes you want to linger. If I ever find myself back in Ogden, I hope I get the chance to return for another cup.
