BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.  I arrived just before 10:30 am  half an hour after they were supposed to open. They were closed with a sign indicating the clerk would return by 10:30. At 10:46  the clerk finally returned from the Chinese restaurant next door,  opened the door, and then barred me from entering. I asked her if the store was open. She said, "Yes but you should go to the other store," pointing at a store about seven blocks away. I replied that I wasn't willing to do this. She said she had to boot up her computer. So she left me to wait another five minutes on the street "while her computer booted up." She offered no explanation or apology at any point for her tardiness or bizarre behavior. 15 minutes after this clerk finally deigned to assist me, she  reported that my existing phone number couldn't be ported to Cricket. She said it had something to do with my current service provider, Republic Wireless. The only way I could get Cricket service was to sign up with a third cell provider such as T-Mobile, terminate my contract with them, and then sign up with Cricket. Doubly bizarre. Skeptical, I walked to a second Cricket retailer and they also were closed! No indication of when they would re-open. I then phoned a third Cricket and they confirmed Cricket was unable to port my number and I'd need to enroll with a major carrier and then switch to Cricket. This person couldn't explain why all the major carriers are able to port my number but Cricket can't. So I signed up uneventfully with T-Mobile and am waiting for T-Mobile service to kick in so I can experience the joy of dealing with Cricket once more. Originally reviewed 3/18. They were nice and friendly when I enrolled in their telecom service, but when I went there for customer service, the girl displayed nothing but a unhappy and annoying attitude. At the end, my wife and I still said thanks but apparently the female worker thinks that she is so much better than us that we don't deserve a response. Worst customer service possible and zero transparency. They did not inform me that I could not receive or send mms or photos before I switched over from Verizon. Apparently this is common for verzion phones and they knew this immediaty when I brought my phone for them to fix it. The Chinese guy then gave me an attitude and told me they cpuld not do anything and you would need to call 611 their "customer service line." He claimed he did not know his supervisor's schedule, name or number. He needs to be fired for lying to customers. I needed a new SIM card, the guy behind the counter was rude, and dismissive and told me it would be $22. I told him online it was listed for $1 until July. He responded that that I had to buy it online for that price. So I went online, and of course they no longer were available. So I went to the cricket in Berkeley, because I didn't want to deal with his rudeness again, and they charged me $11 for a new SIM card. read more

This is about the wireless service, not the Oakland store. They don't send a text message reminder to pay, until a day or less before payment is due. They send the reminder even if you HAVE already paid. They may send a second reminder, even if you have already paid. They don't tell you how much you need to pay, "because that is private information" (according to their online chat woman) (edit) The chat operator couldn't tell me whether the storefront customer service staff or the store proprietor undergo background checks. (edit) If you buy, it might be wise to ask the proprietor for his/her business card. The phone: I bought my phone (and service) at another Cricket store. Be sure to check its browser settings, both the Chrome and the "unnamed browser" - for mine, both were set to have the least secure settings possible. (Maybe this happened after I bought it, but I know I didn't do it.) (edit) The phone does seem to have a mind of its own, and keeps changing settings on me, turning bluetooth and GPS on, and the like. I get repeated spam calls at my cell number from a woman speaking rapid Spanish that I don't understand. I have not figured out how to block them. The browser: Chrome will want to show you the images on a webpage before it gets around to displaying any of the page text, and offers no way to turn off image loading. Particularly if you're using a 3G phone, you may not find this combination to be customer-friendly. read more

Oscar knows his job well. I have been here when it is full of people and service gets slow, due to limited associates on duty. That's common throughout this industry and GTE & SBC had more CRM problems. Because Chinatown is going to be jam packed with cars when you are in a rush, don't be in a rush. Enjoy your life and stay in control of your time. I like the service here, and the service at other Cricket kiosks. In the other hand, Cricket as a cellular service provider leaves much to be desired -- especially after the network operating failure a few days ago. Americans pay for service even if it is below common expectations. Other cultures probably don't do that. I lost clients when the network shutdown and Cricket still forced my to pay my cellular bill as if their network is perfect. Let me make one thing clear, I am not talking about the beautiful people who work in the store and work for Cricket, i am talking about them as a company. Running rampet with shoty business practices! Do you know that if, say you have a whatever dollar plan, and cricket decides to better there plan and give you more data for less money, if you are paying the old higher rate for less data, and you dont change your plan to the new plan, they will just keep charging you the higher and not upgrade your data rate for however long they can get away with it. They make no attempt to inform their customers, except for a commercial here and there, if you happen to be lucky enough to see it. I actually had the supervisor tell me that they wont even send out a text telling you you can get more and pay less because it may irritate customers. yet they will send me a text every time i call, when my bill is coming due, when i am about to reach data limit and when i have reached data limit. I get bull $&*/ text messages from them constantly but they wont send a text saying i can save money. He also told me some cricket customers would get angry if they gave them a better deal, because they would feel cheated, and they want to pay more for less. Yea sure, that makes perfect sence. And refuse to give me a credit for basically robbing me because i didn't request it. How was i supposed to request something i knew nothing about? This is about the service at the store. Every single time we go in there it takes an hour to do anything. I went in to reset my password on my account and the woman who worked there tried to reset it so many times I got locked out and then promptly told me I had to wait 15 minutes to try to reset it. I returned the brand new phone that I bought that broke on the 8th day and they wouldn't allow me to return it. I went in to set up service on a new phone and they didn't have the SIM card. Every single time I leave there I'm irritated and frustrated. Finally went to the store in Bayfair Mall and had a great experience. Never going back to this store! read more

Today I purchased my first ever cell phone at the Cricket store, 2163 Shattuck, Berkeley. I waited for about 15 minutes for Abed to take care of other customers in the store (3). As it was my first cell phone I had many questions about what phone to buy and about the Cricket service. These were answered fully to my satisfaction. I was looking for a basic, inexpensive phone and finally bought at 630 Noika (a bit more elaborate) that had a 50% rebate. Abed set everything up for me and I made my first call right there from the store. I was very grateful for the wonderful service, helpful suggestions, and the patience with which everything was explained to me.
