I am a complete novice with large aquariums and canister filters and went to Creatures as they appeared to be the best source for fresh water fish, etc. I was left to wander on my own and invited to go to back to the individual when I was ready. Knowledgeable, helpful and patient, he got me started on the right path. I'm going back next week for fish, more plants, and more information. I am at Creatures often, for feeders. Sometimes you have to wait a bit, but they are always helpful. My UVE lamp went, it was just past the warranty, It's a chunk of money, so I was worried, Ty the owner was amazing. I don't go here often because they're not handy to where I live, but I needed a particular product (fruit fly culture) that I can't get locally. The lady at the front counter was awesome! Helpful, friendly, took me straight to the product I needed. I was also looking for a tiny jumping spider habitat, but they didn't have that. I didn't think to ask if they had any other suitable live foods that would be ready immediately because fruit flies need DAYS to mature, so may need to go back. At any rate, I was reminded of how much I have enjoyed that shop the other times I have been there. Yes, I would recommend Creatures. read more

Disappointed with unprofessional staff. Employees Yelling at customers, over charging fish prices, just about every fish tank had dead or diseased fish. No service waiting on staff for help and not getting it. People including myself going in after being told they have stock or animals to arrive for them to have nothing. Met several past employees that quit because of how horrible the reptile lady and fish guy are to other staff and people that come in. The amount of people in victoria that have had bad experiences is alarming. They have another name for their on line fish store which is still creatures not sure why the same business has two names as the fish come from one business. Everyone at Creatures is amazing. They treated our dog and me like we were family. We've gone to Creatures for many years, first getting fish and then adopting hamsters and then food, etc for our pets and especially our dog, which they would spoil with treats and love every time we came in. When we had to return a hamster wheel, no problem and easy to exchange with another one. The staff are very knowledgeable, so helpful and obviously love what they do and their care and concern for our companions is above all. If you want to go to a pet store that truly cares, this is the one for you. read more

So annoying to see so many people rating this place poorly on account of the staff- this is not a hotel, or a spa, or a 5 star restaurant, it is a fish/pet store. It's purpose is to provide fish and pet supplies. I have never been to a store with better aquarium stock than this one! Fish you cannot find anywhere else in the area, all well taken care of, expansive plant and aquarium equipment stock, and a passionate and knowledgeable aquaria (manager?) Billy. I can't comment on other areas of the store as I've only been in for aquarium supplies, but I have never ever had a single bad experience here. Great store for aquarium related pets and accessories. Their fish are taken care of and tend to be in better shape than most pet stores in the area and they have the best freshwater selection around and stock a great amount of aquarium products like tanks, filters, food, decorations, etc. The staff is also friendly and helpful. Also a good selection if reptiles and products and other furry pet stuff. No birds anymore though. It's my favorite pet store in the downtown area. Ignore the other agenda based review.. They have lots of aquarium stuff and lots of different freshwater and saltwater fish, and lots of selection for supplies, and at decent prices, too. Was just there this afternoon to get some things for my new fish tank. The store was PACKED and no staff was around to help. I wandered around the store for half an hour looking for somebody to help me to no avail. I ended up putting down the stuff I wanted to buy and just walking out. Maybe they are understaffed? Don not support this business.... We received some terrible treatment at this store. We drove for 4 hours to get to this store and waited patiently for 25 minutes to go into the store. We wanted to buy a beta and my 12 year old wanted to see the reptile section. COVID makes this a challenge as they were very busy but after the long wait they let another customer into the reptile section before us. When I voiced my frustration I was met with aggression and hostility from the odvious stressed the owner/manager. Instead of professionally dealing with the situation in a fair manner the manager chose to make excuses for the poor service. "This is one of our busiest days and we have short hours" this is a retail business.... if fridays are Your busy days lengthen your hours... 12-3?!?! ya it's a long weekend but if this causes you so much stress that you loose it on customers in front of their children and other customers Maybe extend your hours... get more staff... or just don't open. After the altercation we were denied entry but after reading so many other poor reviews I'm glad we did not support this business! read more

I have been coming to Creatures for four years. A select few of the staff are friendly and very helpful but it has been my experience that majority are abrasive, condescending, and given little value of customer service. If this wasn't the only store in Victoria that sold the live feeders I need... well, let's say I'd avoid it if I could. I regret having to put any star for this store. I wish I could give a negative star after the way I was treated the other day! I have spent a couple grand in this store, my biggest purchase being my dog I bought 3 years ago, my bill totaling around $1100. After purchasing my dog, I have spent countless money on food, collars, leashes, crickets, fish, etc. I arrived at 6:07pm the other night in need of crickets for my frog, when I approached the door, an employee was letting customers out. I asked if they were closed and he rudely said "yes, we close at 6" and pointed at the sign. I asked him if he would be willing to quickly sell me crickets. Again he rudely said and pointed out they closed at 6pm and told me they were also out of crickets. When I asked when they would get more in, I was informed "sometime in the next few days". I asked if there was somewhere else I could get crickets, as I had just relocated back to Victoria, and my frog had been without crickets for a few days. I was informed NO WHERE else in Victoria sold them so "good luck". When I got bummed and said I guess I'll have to drive out to Langford and go to Pet Smart, he told me they didn't sell crickets anymore... again "good luck feeding my frog". As soon as I got into my car, I called Pet Smart, who by the way DOES in fact carry crickets. The rudeness of this employee as well as the fact that they straight up lied, when they are the unreliable pet store closing at 6 every night and not keeping crickets in stock just disgusts me. I would love to keep my purchases local, however, after how I was treated, local isn't always the way to go. I drove out to Petsmart and bought my crickets, AT A GREAT PRICE, and their customer service was excellent. Such a shame for Creatures, who by the way, after I purchased my puppy from them, I found out they sell PUPPY MILL DOGS. What a disgusting Company. Up to you to make your right choice. Mine is to rescue and adopt from here on out, and support a store that does not need to trash another store to keep business afloat. read more

Excellent store for anything fish related, i have 3 tanks, a 40 gallon a 10 gallon and a 5 gallon hospital tank and tried getting bettas from a few different places (bosleys, petcetra,petsmart) and they all died, same for plants kept dying, found this place a few months ago and have replaced the 1st betta (from petsmart) that again died 3rd time in 2 yrs, and no ick,(bosleys) 2 in a row), no problems with any of their fish or their plants. very very happy :) read more

I thought I was starting a simple thing this summer when I decided to have goldfish in a pond on my back deck. My first bad choice was thinking goldfish were easy care fish. I was wrong. You name the malady and we had it - and in only 4 short months. I did not purchase my goldfish from Creatures. However, they bailed me out on numerous occasions with good product and advice. Their staff were always extremely helpful - even when I didn't listen to the good advice. Now that we are done with goldfish, we will be launching into a regular freshwater aquarium. I look forward to continuing to support Creatures Pet Store, and would not hesitate to recommend them. I always feel like I'm visit a well kept zoo. In a good way. The store is kept clean and tidy, and product (live or not) is well displayed and easy to find. read more

Probably the best place to buy healthy creatures in Victoria. However, Very poor customer service. I've waited 30 minutes before having to ask to be helped get 1 fish and then still waiting until I decide to leave, This has now happened 3 times. I cannot say enough about the care and education we've received from the staff at Creatures since getting our first leopard gecko. In fact, it started before we even invested in a family gecko. Serena has gone above and beyond in supporting our family in learning how to care for our gecko. The first time we met Serena, she gave us her personal email address so she could answer questions that my 12 year old had about buying her first gecko. Since getting our gecko as a baby, we have called the store weekly to ask questions and clarify instructions on everything from feeding, shedding and habitat. The reptile department, guided by Serena, has always been super helpful. They spend as much time as we need to ensure the gecko is getting the best care. Today we called out of concern that the gecko hadn't eaten well for the last week and my 12 year old was feeling anxious about the gecko's health. Serena offered to come to our house, following safe Covid practices, to check out the gecko and give us some tips. Creatures is a pet store like no other. They truly care for the pets they sell, and the customers they support. I wish I could give them ten stars. read more

Don't support this store. My family made the mistake of buying a puppy which wasn't the proper breed that we were originally told, but along with that came with many health issues. I also learned that a woman I work with bought her puppy from there and had to put him down because of the huge costs due to his health issue. These poor animals are from puppy mills and by buying puppies from pet stores you are causing more pain and suffering to other dogs. read more

The senior staff are all very knowledgeable and helpful, and if they don't know something off the top of their head they will often look it up for you on the spot. Billy in aquatics will give it to you straight on what's the best product with no attempts at up selling you to something more expensive than what you actually need. They have the best selection of fish in town, and if they don't have what you want will try their best to bring it in for you, saving you the risk of ordering online. Only once have I had to use their 14 health guarantee for recently purchased fish and the experience was very positive with the staff discussing with me what may have caused the death in order to prevent similar loses in the future. The staff really care about the fish they sell and try to ensure that they are going to adequate homes and not just getting dumped in some bowl which is more than most pet stores can say. read more
