Very pleased with Roger and his crew. We moved to a brand new home with a VERY small yard, so it was a bit challenging to design something nice to appropriately fit the space. During our first meeting with Roger, we showed him photos and talked about the style we liked and I must say, he totally understood what we wanted. He did a real nice job incorporating what we discussed and drew up plans and gave us many opportunities to make changes. He's a pretty easy-going guy who we felt we could work with, as some of the other Landscapers we interviewed were not a good personality fit. In fact, we interviewed a husband/wife team who had gorgeous photos on their website but when we met them my husband and I could hardly believe they were able to complete any project. They also charged us for the consultation and would not leave their sketches with us until we hired them. So carefully interview your company. You can view Roger's website and get a feel for his talent. He's done very large jobs and smaller ones like ours. There were a couple things that were not to our satisfaction and were not on schedule which I know is normal during the process, and I found Roger to be very receptive to our feedback and went above and beyond to make our landscaping exactly what we wanted. My experience with Creative Scapes (Roger Pajo) was not quite what everyone here experienced. In fact I had to have him reported to the contractors board for his work and not providing what was paid for such as materials. The irrigation system installed killed some mature plants in the back yard. I was charged for a brand new irrigation system. Come to find out that it was not replaced. The flagstone work was shoddy at best. The plants were put in the ground without stakes. The water feature was not put in the right spot per plans which had to be redone by another contractor. I was charged for landscaping lights which were not put in. The list of items that were not done right or the use of cheap materials is endless. He was given several opportunities to make it right and chose not to. None of it was remediated or corrected. When he was reported to the contractors board, I learnt that he had other open cases against him. I would not recommend him to anyone as he does not stand by his work. When I spoke with the person at the contractors board, the person told me that unfortunately such contractors constantly get away with poor work as we cannot revoke their license. As the contractors board is unable to help citizens, I am hopeful that yelp reviews help people to make the right choices. read more

We needed guidance when purchasing an older home with a large backyard, that had been ripped out by the previous owner and not replaced. We wanted to do most of the work ourselves, but needed a plan on what to do. After listening to what we wanted for our yard, Roger Pajo created a terrific landscape plan for us, providing a beautiful design that would not require a lot of maintenance, while promising a relaxing and lush environment. Roger's team ripped out all of the weed-ridden areas and the antiquated irrigation, and graded the lot, installing a new irrigation system and a beautiful patio. We now have the great foundation to install our garden and landscape, thanks to Roger's vision. He knows what he's doing! read more

BEWARE! This contractor, Pajo, is not honorable or true to his word. He breaks his written contracts. He does not complete his job according to his written or spoken word. He is a licensed thief. Advice- with hold 20% of the total contract amount until the very end when you know for sure that all parts of the contract are complete and to your satisfaction. And, be sure that jobs are of sound materials and construction. Only then, make your final payment and have Pajo sign off that payment is in full. Be sure to have all plants warrantied for one year, nothing less! Have all dead/defective plants removed and replaced before final payment. Make sure that job is completed within contract's time frame or else add penalties. Get everything in writing. Keep a job diary. Take photos of job progression. Get Pajo's Bankruptcy history, do not make him any loans and get his Drivers' License Number. Do not have Pajo perform concrete work as too many disclaimers about materials and performance are included in his contracted work. Hire an independent concrete contractor with reputable, fully warrantied service instead. Read contracts carefully and sign only when you are assured of what it says and you agree (make necessary changes). Put verbal agreements in writing and get signed. Double check all of Pajo's calculations, arithmetic and grammar for accuracy. Move on to another contractor if any doubt exists. We are very happy with our new front yard landscape done by Roger Pajo of Creative Scapes. Our neighbors like it too! We had to remove a large mulberry tree with large roots that were cracking the sidewalk and threatening to lift the house foundation. Roger came up with a beautiful plan and many creative ideas (using tree rounds for part of the pathway, rock river bed, low maintenance plants, etc.). And after a few months when some of the pathway rock filler had settled in leaving some gaps in the pathway due to heavy rain, Roger and his crew came right away to beef up the pathway at no charge. We are so thrilled with our new backyard and the experience we had seeing it all come together. We had a tight deadline to get a retaining wall, concrete, grass and a small garden area all put together and every landscape contractor we got estimates from told us they couldn't make it happen in the time we needed. Roger was so nice and was willing to accommodate our difficult request. He came out promptly to give us an estimate (and the price was extremely reasonable compared to the other companies we had give us estimates) and had his crew get to work right away. While the project was in progress, we received constant updates and communication from Roger, so we never had to ask what was going to be done next and when, we always knew. They completed everything well before when we had hoped to get it all done and it looks amazing! I will be recommending Creative Scapes to anyone looking for a landscape contractor and if we move (which we do a lot), we will be calling Roger again. read more

Roger Pajo has to be one of the worst landscape contractors one could hire. The majority of his workers are just day laborers with no experience in the landscape field. Also, what is presented in your contract is not what you get. A $2800 irrigation system is nothing more than a $100-200 drip irrigation kit that you can get from Home Depot. Also, the irrigation lines are just covered with 6 inches of mulch instead of being installed 12 inches below grade through trenching (as described in the contract). The 60 cubic yards of top soil that one thought you contracted for turns out to be just 6 cubic yards because Roger said it was just a typo error. The "planting holes" for the plants are just equal in volume to the original plant containers unlike the Sunset Magazine description that he gives you as part of the contract where the planting hole is at least 3-4 times greater in volume. read more

A word of warning to anyone looking for a landscaper: DO NOT use Roger Pajo from Creative Scapes. We had a terrible experience with him. His design plans looked promising so we contracted him to do the installation as well. But as we got into the process we found his knowledge of materials and plants questionable. We also had them build a screening fence for a garden. The fence was poorly built; several of the panels they installed cracked due to the way the framing was constructed. When I spoke to him about it, he said they would fix the problem and be out the next week. When they didn't show up and I didn't hear from them, I called back. He denied responsibility for the problems and then refused to fix them and stopped returning our calls or emails. We had to hire another contractor to fix the problems and they couldn't believe the poor quality of installation and construction that was provided. read more
