Kevin Nguyen from Creative Roots is the most unprofessional, sloppy, and disingenuous contractor with whom we have ever worked. He was recommended to us by our real estate agent, Brian Louie -- but hiring Kevin turned into a nightmare for us. Given the lack of review for this company, I hope to spare others here from the same headache.
- Kevin's work was sloppy and amateur. For example, he clearly never worked with a farmhouse sink before, was so taken aback by the size/weight of it, complained, installed it totally off-center from the giant kitchen window, and charged us more to remove and reinstall it. He also failed to account for toe kicks in the cabinetry, "installed" a dishwasher without plumbing or power lines so it didn't work at all!, took 4 days to install 7 recessed lights, failed to properly protect the floors/walls while doing work (he taped cardboard to cover 1/4 of the floors but left the rest uncovered, generated a ton of dust while we had a baby in the house and didn't properly put up plastic sheets like all other contractors should do, and messed up basic IKEA cabinetry install.
- Kevin promised us at the onset of the project that he would dedicate his time and team to our project. However, they would show up a couple times a week, stay for a few hours, and leave. There was no regular schedule and Kevin himself rarely came.
- Aside from poor work quality, Kevin appeared completely ill-equipped to deal with normal customer concerns. He was also extremely evasive and sketchy about project costs and budget. When we asked made changes to the project as plans evolved, or asked him questions about the project/budget/plans/etc, Kevin got flustered and threw a fit, and quit our project halfway through. We were left with a half-finished kitchen and had to scramble for new contractors (turned into a blessing in disguise, though, as they were all better than Kevin).
I had high hopes for Kevin, but was left extremely disappointed by his unprofessionalism in both work quality and attitude. I STRONGLY advise against working with him.
TL; DR: Avoid Kevin at all costs. read more
