My friends were in town for New Years eve and me and my husband decided to take them to Crazy Crab. They all Loved it! They ate like 6 rounds total (that's how they enjoyed the seafood sooo much). The service was not so fast but we totally understood because of the holidays. The seafood were fresh and we all tried the mixed sauce. The price person for weekdays dinner was very nice. I think they lowered the price. Now is 39.95 per person dinner weekdays. We had sashimi also and they were pretty decent. Traveled quite a distance to go to the Crazy Crab...when I left the house there was no wait however when I arrived there was 51 people in front of me lol. Majority of the people were large parties but the part that baffles me is the quoted wait time and actual time incurred. I don't mind waiting for good food but a 45 min wait turned into a wait time of 109 min lol. When you arrive you are placed on the wait list that can be checked real time via your mobile device...the place itself is not that big however is chaos in there and I'm not quite sure it's organized chaos. It's something about all you can eat that drives some individuals bat crazy... Long story short I came back after waiting an hour nearby to see if I could do anything to get a seat...here's the spoiler yelpers..go sit at the self seated bar area and order from there...once I did finally get a seat I was waited on by Ashley whom was very friendly and attentive...somewhere around the area 109 min wait I was notified my table was ready but declined as I already had food at the bar. I don't think I could travel back to the Crazy Crab until they start actually quoting realistic wait times. Besides the rules of 2hr eating times, fees for wasted food, I don't have time for it. The food is decent but it's not quite good enough to make up for the Golden Corral like atmosphere of the individuals within...I'm sorry but I can't watch people throw crab legs and other seafood back to back...I get those nutty professor vibes and that makes me sick...best of luck crazy crab, I'm sure the business will be fine and sustain quite well read more

All you can eat seafood with 3 types of crabs. There are other seafood choices you can get as well: sashimi, scallop, shrimp, two types of clams, the list goes on. The snow crabs were super salty even without the sauces. However, I find that consistent with all you can eat snow crab, they tend to be salty. The shrimp was large and hearty. I almost don't want to order shrimp anymore because they were so heavy and took up all the space in my belly! The clams were free of sand and delicious. The service was super slow and forgetful. But the staff was really incredibly nice. We were waited on by two gentlemen but it seemed that a lot of mistakes were made. We asked for no pork, and received pork, and our order was often wrong, but it wasn't worth complaining since it was all you can eat. If you have a dietary restriction make sure you clearly state it repeatedly and when you receive the food to reconfirm it was done accurately. My sister was driving me crazy to this place plus it was my Grandma favorite she passed last month. We finally went together to celebrate her life and not mourn too bad. Decent spot for an all you can eat seafood for $50; this price also includes beverages. When you sit down you can order 2/3 apps and up to 3 seafood items at a time and they bring it out to you in this plastic bag and you just eat from that bag. They also give you bibs and gloves to wear; some people don't wear gloves but I do! It gets messy! I recommend the snow crab legs, blue crab, black mussels, and shrimp. The scallops were okay (a little over cooked). When you order your first bag they give you corn, potatoes, and sausage. But you have to request them after if you want it added to your order. It does get packed so come early if you're doing dinner on a weekend night! We came around 6pm and got seated a 6:30pm and left around 8pm and t was packed!! Make sure to order the snow crab legs with every order. That was the best bang, value, and taste they have on the menu. We also ordered the shrimp, crawfish, black mussels, clams, and scallops. The shrimp is great because there is a headless option and the scallops were cooked well and absorbed the sauce. The seafood comes on a tray and served family style. The only sauce worth getting is the Crazy Special. I would also recommend getting the hot flavor which really isn't hot but gives a good balance of spicy and salty. The last thing that sets this place apart from the others is the Sashimi. No other crab boil place in the area offers sashimi so that makes this place stand out a little more. This was a terrible experience all around. My husband and I walked in and there was a wait for the tables but there was no one sitting at the bar so we headed that way. Sat there for ten minutes before any of the servers decided they wanted to greet us and take our order. Got hush puppies, oysters and snow crab legs. Hush puppies were probably the best part of the meal and they were tepid at best. Next come the crab legs. Two small legs (and I mean small, we weren't the only ones who noticed). We had to ask for the oysters when they brought out the legs. No one checked back on getting us refills on the drinks until we were visibly frustrated. The longer we sat there the more often we saw the manager stopping at tables to listen to them complain about the meal or service. Just a hot mess. Will not be back. A friend and I decided to check this place out after hearing about the all you can eat seafood option. We waited 70 mins for a table and it honestly wasn't worth it. You can't go wrong with seafood however, I wasn't impressed with the seasoning as it didn't have much flavor at all. Have had better flavor at Chasin Tails or even Sea Boil in Alexandria. Service was ok...our server forgot my friend's Clam Chowder which tasted like it was straight out of a can and wasn't warm at all. Water cups weren't filled until asked. Regular fries, hush puppies, crab ball (favorite), fried chicken wings, sweet potato fries, fried calamari, and Mozarella sticks. All were very delicious. My sister in law brought us here for the first time last week. At first I was concerned that it was expensive for all you can eat at almost $50/pp but once the food started coming out, I can guarantee you, it is worth it. The quality of the seafood is not the best but also not the worst. I thought the sashimi was probably the weakest item. Our group ate their money's worth in raw oysters! They manage your order by allowing you to start with 3 starters and 3 seafood items but once those come out and you start eating, you are allowed to place your next order. You can get the seafood seasoned or steamed. If you have a group with people who are sensitive to different spice levels, I would recommend just getting it steamed with all of the sauces on the side. You can't go wrong with all of the fried stuff too. There is free ice cream too...The kind in the paper cups. We skipped it and went for custard down the street. Overall, a satisfying meal. Ok... I had considered making this a 3-star review, but the staff was so courteous and attentive I have to give it 4. Here we go... The hostess was on the ball and very bubbly. I told her that I was intending to sit at the bar and she still escorted me and brought me a menu. As soon as I sat down, two dudes swooped-in and put some packaging paper on the counter in front of me and brought utensils. Bravo. I haven't seen this mentioned in other reviews so FYI this place DOES have draft beer, but it's on the pricey-side considering the comps. A pint of bud light here will run you $5. A pint at Patriots not far away runs you $3.25. A pint at The Old Fire Station in the heart of downtown will cost you $3.50. Plus every other bar I know in Fairfax City has excellent specials. Crazy Crab does not... It's an "all day special" of $5. I ordered the combo with 1/2 lb blue crab and 1/2 lb snow crab. The food comes out in what I can only describe as a trash bag insulated with another trash bag. I didn't know it was my food when it came out; I thought it was a woman collecting the trash (The presentation could be better, get me?). Me thinks putting the food into a basket before bringing it out would be better. So what was provided to aid in consuming the crab was a mallet, fork, and nutcracker. I asked for a paring knife for the blue crab. The bartender told me that they didn't have paring knives but they could supply me with a smaller fork. 1) How does a bartender not have paring knives? What are you cutting your citrus with? 2) How do you not have the necessary tools for (properly) consuming blue crab? For adults (not children who just enjoy pulverizing crab shells) you usually use the mallet (or your palm) against a paring knife to open the claws... Plus, as I was brought up, you use a paring knife to extract the meat from the thorax. Like anyone who grew-up on Chesapeake blue crabs, I expected apple cider vinegar to be available. They had malt. I strongly prefer apple cider, but I was ok with malt. I'm surprised though. This is a specialty restaurant and if there is any food that customers have their own customary way of consuming, it's seafood. I would expect not only for them to have hot sauce, but several types of popular hot sauce. For seasoning, I would think that they would not only have Old Bay, but Tony's. Not only Lawry's, but Zatarain's... Hmmm... You catching the theme? It didn't seem like they were as prepared to serve seafood from a culinary standpoint as many non-seafood specialized restaurants. For example, the last time Outback offered their snow crab, I had no problem getting apple cider vinegar and Old Bay (not that Crazy Crab didn't offer me Old Bay). From a disposal/cleanliness standpoint (gloves, aprons, buckets, trash bags, etc.), Crazy Crab, they gotcha. Now to taste. The crab seemed as though it would have been good on its own. I hated their Cajun seasoning. It's not so much of seasoning as it is a hot, wet sludge. I've never encountered anything quite like it... I thought they were asking what type of dry seasoning I would like the crabs tossed in. I asked for the hot cajun; It was bad. It's like a pepper sauce mixed with spices mixed with oil... and the pool of oil at the top of my vinegar bowl doesn't lie. Loved the people, food was ok (I will order it differently if I return), the preparedness and preparation leave a lot to be desired. Went to try this place for the first time a couple weeks ago and it exceeded all my expectations. A friend of mine had recommended coming here for our mutual friend's going away dinner since he is moving to California. I had been to many seafood boil/steam restaurants in the area before including crawfish giants like Hot n Juicy and Chasing Tails. But nothing prepared me for Crazy Crab. First of all, the restaurant offers two options: Ordering food a la carte by the pound/half-pound or the all you can eat buffet. I supposed if you're dining alone or in a small group and you want to try all the seafood types, then the buffet is the best option. But it's $50 so if you're going with a group, it is probably cheaper to just order a few pounds of your favorite seafood items. I went with a group of 4 people and we opted for a special that the restaurant was running in which we could buy 5 pounds of food and get a 6th pound for free. We opted for 2 lbs of snow crab legs, 1 lb of sea scallops, 1 lb of blue crabs, 1 lb of crawfish, and 1 lb of shrimp. For our sauce selection, we went with the combo of all 3 sauces and a medium spiciness. All of it was delicious. And it only ran us about $120 (buffets all around would've cost us $200). The scallops were the star, but we honestly ate everything. The seafood also comes with sausage, corn, and potato but we all know that's just filler. Besides this amazing platter from the ocean, we also each ordered a cup of clam chowder. Overall, I loved everything about the place. If you're a crawfish fanatic, then this place won't measure up to either HnJ or CT that I mentioned earlier. But as far as the rest of the seafood goes, I think it's the best quality and best deal in the area. I can't wait to go back and eat here again. read more

Been here on several different occasions. The seafood is good, appetizers/sides are ok. Our servers have always been attentive. When I went last night, we had ordered 5 lbs of seafood. After receiving our food, our server came out and let us know they had a promotion going on that was buy 5 lbs, get one free. Great! I would have given this place a 4-star review, but when a guy brought out our "free" pound of shrimp he asked if we had ordered it. After saying yes, he paused and proceeded to ask us "if we had actually ordered it or if we were just trying to get it for free." Excuse me? Lol. Luckily our server was standing close by and she was able to let him know immediately that the order was ours. Mind you, we were a table of 5 adults and to make things worse, I was taking my parents there for the first time. So he couldn't have been stereotyping based on age? Maybe because we were Asian? But he was Asian too. I don't know what prompted such a rude question from him, but I don't think it's acceptable to treat paying customers that way. We told our waitress and she was sweet and apologized for him. As a native Baltimorean and a seafood lover, I'd thought I'd give this place a try. This place is located across from Captain Pell's -- a long time seafood staple in Fairfax that I frequent on occasion with family and friends. While the place was moderately packed, my order was to go and I was told the hostess that I could place it at the bar. When I arrived at the bar and sat down, there was a waiter behind the counter looking at the screen right in front of me. He never looked up, never acknowledged me, and then just walked away. Mind you, he came to the bar several times and never uttered a word. For about 4 minutes, I sat at the bar waiting to be waited on. In that time, several waitstaff walked past me, came to the bar and left, not one acknowledged me nor asked if I had been helped or if I any needed help. Finally at the 5 minute mark, a waiter finally approached me and asked if I had been helped. I said no and he proceeded to take my order. I ordered the fried shrimp with regular fries and fried oysters with Cajun fries. I got my order after 15 minutes and drove home. To my dismay, I got sweet potato fries instead of Cajun fries and my fried oysters had way too much breading and were way too crunchy. My husband's fried shrimp basket was fine -- he said it reminded him of the corner takeouts in DC -- not terrible nor terrific, but edible. I'm glad by the reviews that others had a better experience. I'll just stick to Captain Pell's. read more

They sat us at a table across from the bar and that table was dirty but the most unsanitary issue was every customer or anyone that walked by touched our food,table etc. the fried food came out over fried and the potato was under cooked. Oh my gosh I love this place. I want to come here once every two weeks, but I can't handle that. The crabs and crazy sauce were so delicious. Not overly salty at all. An unexpected surprise to me were the fried oysters. Those were a homeroom as they were so fresh and delicious. My mom who doesn't like fried food loved them as well. Well that was interesting. FYI: Contrary to what the website reads, they DO take reservations on Saturday night and they WILL seat parties larger than 10 on Saturday night. I know this because even tho we were 1st on the Waitlist, at least 3 parties were seated or being seated before us. When we arrived we were told we would be seated at the next table for six. Apparently knowing a hostess also takes preference because the first table of 6 that became available was given to a party of 4. About 10 minutes later the manager had menus in hand taking us to our table when the waiter told the manager that he "needed" that table. So being an ineffective manager he let the guy seat a party at his table. Now, it appeared to us they were friends of the waiter. At least the one gal that sat down as she waited for the rest of her party seemed friendly. However the manager explained to us that they will take reservations on Saturday night if the party pays a deposit. So there u go folks. Now you know how to make a rez. So next the manager went to another section of the restaurant where a 6 top was available and another was being cleared. But those were going to a party of 15 (guess they squeezed in extra chairs). And that party wasn't ahead of us on the wait list either. Not sure why they were getting priority. Even tho they had told us the next 6 would be ours when we walked in, eventually the manager said we weren't there when they were ready to seat us so they gave our table away. It's a waitlist. Every waitlist I've been on elsewhere seats you at the next available table once you arrive when you're on the list. We were there only a few minutes after they were ready for us (a 3 year old and newborn can delay things). They didn't tell us it was a problem when we arrived. The manager assured us he was the general manager and the only one over him was the owner who wasn't there. We were told we could reach him..Kenny was the only name given, at the restaurant number if we wanted to make a comWe decided to leave when they couldn't seem to figure out when we'd be seated.
