I reviewed this place years ago with 5 stars. We used to go almost weekly. They've gone WAY downhill. The raw fish has been stringy and bad quality three orders in a row, and you'd better check your bag for take out orders. "No sauce" means extra sauce, apparently. Although they do manage to remember the items they upcharge for. So, really the wrong order with 1/2 spoiled in the trash anyway. read more

I had the most intense craving for sushi tonight and had to drag the man along with me. I was SUPER excited to find out about Crazy Cafe because of all the great reviews and most of all.....it is 2 minutes from our home! :) Jalapeno Appetizer = freaking delicious. It had spicy tuna, cream cheese, and jalapenos tempura style with special sauce. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE order this first. I had 2 rolls: Volcano and Fugi Roll. Which were too die for. I especially liked the Volcano roll which had baked cream cheese and scallops on top of a calfornia roll with eel sauce! DEFINITELY one of my favorites. The Fugi roll was very good with shrimp tempura, avacado, eel sauce, and baked with crab. Both of these rolls were flat out AWESOME. Bill decided to go a little more bland and try a spicy scallop roll and esclar roll which he said was very good. And he is picky when it comes to sushi, believe me! PLUSES: Service went beyond excellent here Sushi is very freshed and plated very well Ambiance and chill factor to the cafe is awesome Price is very reasonable compared to other sushi restaurant It is only 1 block around the corner from my home !!! :) :) Bottom line - we will be returning. Can we say ahhhmazing? A fellow friend and Yelper celebrated her birthday here and I was excited to try the place she gave a huge 5 stars. I L-O-V-E me some raw fish! (or sushi) as you classy people call it. I came in unfashionably late, but our waitress Tina was on top of it. Getting a water for me and then taking everyone's orders. I ordered the squid salad, which came out super quickly and 5 portions more than what I thought it would - compared to my squid salad orders at other sushi joints. So fresh, so delicious. I actually ate almost the entire plate! Next up, Pink Lady and the Green Dragon roll. Both of these rolls were great too. I was so pleasantly surprised by the great service, the great food, and the place is too cute to boot. Decided to try Crazy Cafe based on the reviews I've read on Yelp and was sorely disappointed. I placed my order around 4:30 yesterday (Sunday) to purposely avoid any dinner crowd. I ordered the Volcano Roll (Baked Cream Cheese & Scallop on the top of a California roll w/ Eel sauce) and the Fantastic Spicy Tuna Roll (Spicy Tuna w/ spicy mayo & eel sauce shredded Krab) and was told it would be about 15 minutes. I arrived at Crazy Cafe @ 4:50 PM and was told my order wasn't ready yet so I sat down and waited. I observed 1 table in the restaurant so I am not sure why it took so long to wrap raw fish. The order came up about 10 minutes later at which point I paid and left. PLUS: The cashier offered Spicy Mayo and/or Soy Sauce in to-go ramekins. Once I arrived home, I began to eat the rolls. They looked delicious and it was definitely a good portion but as I bit into the first roll (Spicy Tuna) I found that while tasty, the tuna was as cooked as a well done tuna steak. I don't believe I've EVER had cooked tuna in a roll and considering the price, I expected some fresh ahi tuna in it. Very off putting and I would not have ordered it if I knew it was cooked. I then tried the volcano roll and again, while tasty, I believe their avocado may have been a bit over ripe because it was literally just mush. For the price I paid, I will not ever be trying sushi from this place again. May go back for Hibachi but try at your own risk. read more

This was our second time here and again we had another awesome experience. My biz associate who is a sushi fanatic rates this place between Soho and Tsunami Sushi. I am new to the sushi plate, I was always hesitant that my first experience would not be good and turn me off to this cuisine that everyone talks about. We usually go between 7-9pm either on a Sun or early week and its not too busy. we actually end getting the same table every time lol. Atmosphere is relaxed and soothing, there is ample seating and chairs are comfortable. The Pacific Fusion, Crunch , Spicy Tuna, Lobster and Volcano rolls are something we usually get are incredible. Update* We have been here about 8x since March , been going almost once a week. We still get the rolls I mentioned but we have tried other rolls as well and not one did we have a reaction of " Its not bad but I wouldn't order it again" Tried the jalepeno appetizer which is really good and has a lot of bite to it is a MUST try. I tried the Hibachi shrimp which for $13 bucks its a deal, you get a side ginger salad which is excellent as well , your choice of 3 different soups, my favorite after sampling the trio is the spicy rice soup and then the main entree is served with a generous portion of hibachi shrimp with a large amount of fried rice with bits of scrambled egg , a side of lo mein type noodles and veggies. We have tried the desserts on one occasion and if there is an area where this place short on , its that. Nothing terrible but no WOW factor like everything else we have tried. The prices are great we usually spend $40 or less for 2 people and I actually leave stuffed which is amazing feat since im 6'5 300+. Service here is nothing short of outstanding, extremely friendly and helpful even for us people who still are not chopstix inclined. You feel welcomed when you arrive, they appreciate your patronage and proud of their craft and it shows brightly. They are located on 301 in Riverview about 1/2 mile south of Falkenburg rd on the south side of 301 , behind the Mcdees. They are open till 10 even on a Sunday! . I attended a baptism reception here for a late lunch. Our party took up the entire back room. With a crowd that large, our meal was already set, similar to a wedding. We were given salad, miso soup, and a plate of rice, noodles, veggies, chicken, and salmon. I was hoping to try their sushi, but that's ok because this food was great! I loved the salmon! Cooked just right with some teriyaki. I was expecting the fried rice to be dry and bland, similar to other places, but it actually had flavor. It wasn't salty either, as if there just was too much soy sauce. I was one of the lucky tables that got food right away. Some of our other guests, though, were still waiting on their plates when I was already halfway through mine. I think that could have been planned better, since the restaurant knew just how many meals they are preparing. Also, my friend wanted hot tea but wasn't able to because they ran out of tea pots. It's not like nearly everyone ordered hot tea, so it seems odd that they wouldn't be prepared for that. As it was a party, I didn't get to see the prices, so I'm not sure how expensive (or not) it is. Good enough food, though, that I'd want to return on my own to try the sushi. The inside is really small but super cozy if you are looking for an intimate setting. I was a little disappointed with the sushi this time though as anything with crab in it on it was chewy. My wife and I have been very curious if this sushi spot was any good considering how convenient the location is from out house. We finally gave it a shot this past weekend and sadly the sushi quality is average/mediocre. The tuna that was in our Tuna roll appears to have been frozen perhaps or just really bottom of the barrel quality. It was tough and had a dark purple/black appearance. The waiter was very nice and checked on our table multiple times which is more than I can say for other sushi restaurants that are a higher tier. We ordered a Dragon Boat which comprises of 15 pieces of nigiri, 15 pieces of sashimi, 1 tuna roll (aforementioned), California roll, and a Monster Roll. If that seems like a lot that's because it is. The dragon boat is sized for 3-4 people but we figured we would go big for our first visit. I appreciate the thick cuts of sashimi but my wife would have rather had them give the same quantity just thinner slices. It is a mouthful of fish with one bite. The price was approximately $95-$100 including tip. For that price we much rather have gone elsewhere that serves better quality fish. I hate to compare it to a grocery store's sushi but it's right on par with that if not below. In short, good service and generous portions. However if you're an avid Sushi "connoisseur" you may want to look elsewhere. read more

#176 Friday nights at the N residence can sometimes be pretty tough. Our celebrate the end of the week dining out night can be a challenge finding a place both of us want to go. This week I had it pretty well covered. After reading all the good things about a certain brew pub in Ybor we thought we'd give it a try. I know it was Friday night but it was still fairly early, 7ish, so hopefully it wouldn't be too crowded, and it wasn't, but. I will not pay $10 to park. Puh-lease and really? Ten bucks? I think not. This will be a lunch place. We ended up at the Crazy Cafe, having heard good things about it. In concept this would be a perfect place for us. I like the hibachi tappen style cooking and cuisine and the Mrs is just so-so with it. She likes sushi and all those roll things. Me? Not at all. This is all Crazy Cafe does, great compromise. We were seated immediately. Service was very pleasant and there wasn't a " hi guys" in sight anywhere. Nice. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi meal, which came with salad and soup and all the other goodies you would get at a for real hibachi style place. When the server asked me how I wanted my steak cooked I said "pink" as I usually do. Most servers know what this means, this guy didn't have a clue. He said Raw? Noooooo, that would be red. Every place cooks differently, one place may mean pink is medium rare, another medium. After we got that settled I just resigned myself to getting the steak either undercooked or overlooked. Wife ordered a Fantastic Spicy Roll thing with help from our color blind server. He knew the rolls much better. And we ordered vegetable tempura as an appetizer. Soup and salad came first together. The salad was as pedestrian as can be, iceberg, 2 slices of cucumber. That's it. My soup, spicy rice, was inedible. The app arrived. It was not crispy but a poor substitute for tempura and was soggy and greasy. Not very good. My entre came and guess what? Not only was the steak over cooked but so was the shrimp. Everything else though was quite good. The steak and shrimp was just ok, would have been better if it was "pink" as requested. Wife's roll seemed fine, she ate it all and liked it. We finished with some ice cream, green tea for me, vanilla for wife. Note, you get 2 giant scoops, one order was enough to share. Crazy Cafe definitely does better with their sushi than other things. Seeing as how I don't eat it though, I'm not a good source for that. The hibachi was nowhere as good as the places that just do that but like I said earlier this is a compromise place for us. read more

For Riverview, I would give this place 4 stars, but for Tampa, I would give it 3. We met some friends for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness. We ordered a couple beers and some edemame. The edemame had no kosher salt, which was a little odd. I ordered the crystal roll and thought it was tasty. I also ordered the small hibachi shrimp with fried rice. I guess I was expecting to see a hibachi section somewhere like at Arigatos or Jotos but the hibachi selection came out of the kitchen. For the price it was a good portion. I think this place is a nice addition to Riverview but I wouldn't drive out of my way to visit. read more

I had been planning on having lunch at another restaurant nearby, when I found out that they are closed on Tuesdays. My friend suggested Crazy Café. I had never been and happily obliged. What a great little option! The menu consists of typical Japanese hibachi dishes and sushi. I opted for the hibachi, which is really a good price point for lunch. Included in the dish is a protein (or 2 if you get the combo), rice, noodles, veggies, soup, and salad. It was a good amount of food but we didn't leave absolutely stuffed. They offer the traditional hibachi sauces, as well. What I really liked about this place is that you don't sit at a hibachi table. I didn't leave smelling like the food. A good sushi place in the Brandon area tucked away on the corner of a shopping Plaza. I came here on a lunch break after looking for sushi joints on Yelp. This place has a nice modern interior. The menu has a mix of sushi and hibachi plates. The lunch specials are a good value. I went with a single Pacific Fusion roll which included an order of soup. The soup was a spicy miso which came out hot and had a good spicy flavor to it. The roll came out shortly after (probably because I beat the lunch rush) and was pretty tasty. It had some spicy tuna rolled together with crunch flakes and avocado on top drizzled with some sauces. I'd order it again but I'm curious about the rest of their specialty rolls. Excellent spicy Miso soup. Delicious ginger dressing and fresh, crisp lettuce on the salad. Edamame lightly salted and fresh from the steamer. The starters were first rate, promising more good things to come. My wife pronounced the steak and salmon hibachi, "mmbhschmbng." I believe she meant, "delicious." The crunch roll, spicy shrimp cucumber roll and crystal roll all delivered excellent flavor and construction at the right temperature. We will be regulars. read more

I got the opportunity to eat here last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. A group of us went out for a birthday celebration and had a great time. This is one of those places I just keep getting the same thing over and over, this time it's the steak hibachi. The veggies are fresh, the steak is so tasty, no fat, and the fried rice is perfect! I get it without the soup, salad, and noodles (don't need noodles *and* fried rice). I've had the sushi here too, it's 4-star and the prices are reasonable. I wish it wasn't named Crazy Cafe, because really it's a nice restaurant, not a take-out only, Americanized, pictures of the food behind the counter type of dive. We have been coming to Crazy Cafe for lunch and dinner for over 2 years now. The food is freshly prepared and consistently delicious! We have ordered everything from Sushi and Sashimi to Hibachi and love it all! My husband and I are "Empty Nesters" and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and high booths. The staff remembers us, knows our names and what we like to drink - hot Green Tea. We both like the fresh ginger dressing on the salad (yes, it's only iceberg and cucumbers but always crisp and cold) and enjoy both the miso and clear soups. Our favorite Sushi rolls are the Monster Roll, Tampa Bay Roll and Spicy Scallop with Brown Rice. I sometimes order Hibachi Filet and Scallops and I have to say, they really know how to cook them perfectly! I order the Filet rare and it usually comes out medium-rare, which is fine with me. The scallops are consistently plump and tender. We have also ordered the "Boats" for a larger group and they are delightfully impressive!
