If I had 6 stars to give, Sushi Yama would get all 6. This AYCE spot has the freshest fish I've ever had at this style of restaurant, along with creative rolls that aren't just stuffed with stomach fillers. The rolls at dinner include all sorts of fish, eel, and even lobster. Dinner has a slightly premium price tag, around $35, but is well worth it. To really get the value, I always opt for the sashimi and nigiri options but their hibachi meats are also very flavorful and seemingly cooked to order. The service is fast and there isn't a limit (that I've reached) on what you can order at a time. The presentation of the dishes is beyond what you would expect at an all you can eat. Expect shape cut fruit, colorful garnish, and if you order enough you could even get your sashimi with dry ice smoke! Expect a short wait on the weekends, but the smaller tables move fast. In my experience, the service at Sushi Yama is stellar. Have been to tgus location in Brandon Florida twice. The first time was the all you can eat sushi and sashimi dinner which was fabulous. This last time I had the all you can eat lunch, which had less options but still was great. With the all you can eat, they have appetizers, soups, salads, tempura, fried rice and teriyaki in addition to the sushi. I have to say, I really loved the dinner and I liked the lunch. 5 star service, ambiance is 3 star mainly because they aggressively clean the tables, so there is always some commotion. Dinner was 5 stars and lunch was 4 stars. Overall though, still 5 stars. Just beware, if you don't finish your food, they will charge you ala cart prices. Easily one of my favorite places in Tampa Bay. Came here for my brother's birthday and brought more family members. We ordered SO much sushi and left so stuffed. And the rice and the noodles was not season as they normally are. Not sure if they're changing something here which was a little disappointing because I paid for the dinner menu . If you're looking for a solid sushi spot in Brandon, Sushi Yama has become a go-to for our family. I mainly eat tuna rolls and the rice with soy sauce. The sushi is really good, it's not overloaded with rice and cucumber to make up for a lack of fish. You actually get a great balance, and the fish tastes fresh. There are plenty of options to choose from, so you don't get bored ordering the same things. Honestly, I could eat here multiple times a week if it were up to me. We finally returned, four months later, and was so looking forward to it. However, I was sadly disappointed. Instead of dinner we stopped in for lunch to do the AYCE. I noted in my original review (dinner) that although the AYCE menu was not exhaustive it was satisfying. The lunch menu was not the same and I was deprived a few items I really liked when we had dinner, such as the squid salad, octopus nigiri, and King Kai roll. The items I selected were between a 2 and 4, thus the overall updated rating of 3. The service was great, just like the previous visit, but the food not so much this go around. I'm not sure why, maybe due to it being a Thursday and we received some of the tail end of the "fresh" cuts of fish (?). Or previous visit was on a weekend. I could be wrong, but it makes sense; not that they would serve "rotten" fish, but you can taste the difference between 2 to 3 day old fish and week old fish on the cusp. Will we return? Possibly, when we venture westward and have a hankering. Maybe it was just an off day for them, or me. read more

I thought the table next to us was exaggerating when they put their cups above their heads waving it to let the waiter know they needed a refill but I totally get it. The appetizers came out pretty quickly, but the sushi rolls themselves took a while more than 20 minutes when they finally arrived. The rolls were good no issue the flavor was good but when we finished our rolls we proceeded to wait for our server to check on us to order more but it took awhile to get his attention. When he finally came back, we ordered it again and even the second round took over 20 minutes to get our sushi rolls. The appetizers come out so quick but I really wish the sushi would too.
