I was in the area to get an oil change and decided to drop by this place for a quick lunch. The place was pretty busy, with one table of 14 office workers having lunch and the rest of the tables full. I wasn't greeted when I arrived and had to wait about 3 minutes before anybody even acknowledged me at the counter. When they did, the young lady who took my order was very friendly and pleasant. I ordered shrimp shumai and the lunch special of chicken hibachi with a soda. They gave me my number and I sat down to await my food. The place is a cross between a traditional order by picture Chinese to-go type restaurant and fast-casual. They have an extensive sushi menu and a limited hibachi menu. I found this odd since the place has hibachi as the first part of their name. Personally I wouldn't eat sushi from a place like this. It took about 8 minutes for my shrimp shumai to arrive. They brought it on a real plate, which I thought was a nice touch. The shumai wasn't very hot, but acceptable. I am pretty confident they just open a bag and steamed it. I don't think anybody is hand-making shumai at this place. Honestly, you can get the same, and better quality, but visiting a decent Oriental Market, like MD Oriental Market. A few minutes later my entree came out. It was a huge, and I mean, huge portion of chicken, rice, and vegetables. Like another reviewer noted, the pieces of chicken were not consistent in their size. I had some monster pieces and some tiny pieces. The vegetables consisted of broccoli, zucchini, and onions. Nothing else. The chicken was very dry. So much so that I had to douse it with all kinds of sauces just to get it down. Further, nothing had any flavor. It could have used maybe some salt and anything else to make it interesting and palatable. The food wasn't terrible, it was just blah. If you are in the market for a metric ton of food, that is stupid cheap ($7.99 for the meal with a soda), and don't care much about flavor or consistency, then this is your place. This is a regular place in a little shopping plaza. I ordered the teriyaki chicken from the lunch special. It came with fried rice,veggies, and white sauce. The food was great and flavorful. However, I was literally hungry like 30 minutes later and ate all of my food. The place was clean. The server spot cleaned as people got up. It's a nice place if you have a small appetite. I've been here in the past as in maybe one year or so ago and was kind of surprised by the affordability but today was the ultimate last visit there. The asian lady helping us was helpful but her co worker seemed to have an attitude. We ordered to go, wish I would've checked my food. The avocado/shrimp rolls where the finest rolls ive ever seen in my life and my cucumber salad was nothing but a few cucumbers sprinkled on top of a bed of romaine lettuce. This is my favorite chain sushi place. They have a location in Brandon and I visited there at least once a week. The sushi is cheap and delicious! I don't order the specialty rolls because I enjoy the regular rolls. The inside is always clean and the staff is always friendly! I never have a problem. Unfortunately my spicy tuna roll did NOT have avocado (even though I paid extra for it) and the Philadelphia roll had way too much cream cheese . Not a balanced flavor at all! My co-workers said the really enjoyed the hibachi (stir-fry type meals) but I wanted something lighter but filling. I found the sushi to be extremely small and not very tasty. Wish I had taken pix. Ok, sometimes I find a hole in the wall that is impressive. Don't let it's exterior or location fool you, this little place packs a good hit of flavor. We order the Yakisoba, which are thin asian noodles along with some sushi rolls and a chicken hibachi. There were 3 of us and we waited for our food for about a good 12 minutes. When we started eating, we didn't talk, we just kept wolfing down the food it was that tasty. The noodles were great with mixed veggies and shrimp. It was so good, I didn't even take a picture of it. The sushi is solid and fresh, pretty similar to most of the local/modern sushi joints, but much cheaper. I have tried the chicken hibachi and the chicken terriyaki. Revised Review after 11 months After 11 months, decided to try this 56th St. location again. Earlier in the week I went with a friend to the Florida Ave. location. The Florida location renewed my hope. Chicken was made as I recalled, lean, thicker strips, thought great! Came to the 56th st store, to my surprise, was disappointed. Chicken was same fatty, thin strips and bitty pieces. Plus it was piled up couldn't see veggies. Will say the veggies were very tasty as well as rice. But chicken disappointed. The chicken hibachi is really good! Very yummy and super cheap. Chicken is good quality. The yum yum sauce isn't good at all. The 3 stars are for the nice service and the hibachi. I also ordered a "spicy tuna roll" and a Snow Mountain Roll. Both weren't worth finishing. Superrrr small portions for the price and the snow crab is a skim portion of imitation crab meat. Ordered 4 meals. Returned all meals because the chicken was too Hard and the Rice was too hard as well. They replaced our meals but the chicken was still too hard to enjoy. We had to get steam rice otherwise we wouldn't be able to eat the food. Wont go here again. They obviously don't tenderize the chicken over night. From my very first experience here, the service is amazing, and the staff is very polite. The restaurant had a very pleasant cultural decor going on, it gave me a very good feeling. It was quiet enough to read a book. My order was a plate of Hibachi with steak, my mother had some Hibachi Shrimp. The steak was lovely, cooked Medium Well, it was garnished with soy sauce. The only problem that needs to be improved is the rice itself, I felt it was sort of dry and flavorless. My mother thought it was fine, though. It was otherwise a lovely experience! I used a coupon for two hibachi chicken dinners and the chicken was unbelievably dry. I felt like I was chewing on wet wood chips. The yummy sauce barely made it edible and honestly, having to chew this hard makes my jaw ache. The rice was pretty dry as well. The only item remotely good here is the yakisoba. I had take out from this location and ordered a shrimp and steak hibachi with soup. The shrimp and steak were overcooked and as hard as rocks. The miso soup tasted like murky water with a couple pieces of tofu. The rice was not well-seasoned. The broccoli was undercooked and naturally, very hard. For $34 for two hibachi entrees and yakisoba, you would think it would at least be 3-star quality.
