My goal is to check out and find great sushi and this place nailed it! I ordered the Hawaii Roll and the Miyazaki Roll. The Hawaii Roll is raw with tuna, salmon, shrimp tempura, crunch, avocado, and mango and it is wrapped in soy paper and topped with spicy mayo and wasabi sauce. This was $18.50. I've never had mango in a sushi roll and this was fantastic! I wasn't sure about it at first but the variety of fish and the crunch with the sweetness of the mayo and the sauces was pure perfection! The Miyazaki Roll is smoked salmon, krab meat, and cream cheese. It is deep fried and topped with eel sauce. This was $10.95. Loved this! It was not overly breaded and definitely not oily. So good!! My meal also came with a choice of soup or salad. Naturally I picked the miso soup, which was great! They had a lot of options and variety! Ordered online for pick up. Was super easy and efficient. Order was ready by the time I went to pick it up and they have a texting system which helps too. They were super helpful when I arrived and asked if I wanted any sauces before I left. I ordered two sushi rolls, the shumai, and chicken hibachi dinner. The shumai were delicious and flavorful and were devoured in one sitting. The spicy Manhattan roll was good but very large so difficult to eat in one bite. Very good with eel sauce. The rainbow roll was also good. Seemed fresh. Clear soup was flavorful. The salad was a bit disappointing. Looks like just lettuce, sliced cucumber, and dressing. I have not tried the dressing yet as I was too full. I am saving the chicken hibachi dinner for day 2 but did have a bite of everything. Small Asian fusion place in a plaza off of Bruce B Downs very friendly staff and when we went to pick up it was a good umber of people dining in but staff was attentive as we could see. They menu has the expected dishes from hibachi entrees to variety of sushi (California to eel and tun to salmon rolls) and sashimi and specialty rolls (Mexican, Alaskan, pink lady etc) it's not the best ever but it's decent sushi and hibachi. **Serious Health Concern - Proceed with Caution** I am writing this review as a serious warning to anyone with food allergies, particularly sesame. Prior to visiting this restaurant, I called ahead and spoke with the manager to ask if they could accommodate a sesame allergy. She assured me it would be no problem and encouraged us to come in. Upon arrival, I reminded the manager that I had called earlier regarding my son's allergy. She told me to inform our server, which I did--repeatedly. Our server, Lizabeth, appeared completely untrained in handling food allergies. I must have told her at least five times to ensure a clean knife was used and that sesame was strictly avoided. What happened next was shocking. When my son's plate arrived, I witnessed the server take the dish to a corner near the trash and attempt to *pick sesame seeds out of the rolls with her bare hands*. I immediately called out to the manager, drawing attention to the situation. Although she initially tried to deny it, others in the restaurant witnessed what happened. This kind of behavior is dangerous and completely unacceptable. Food allergies can be life-threatening, and such negligence could seriously harm or even kill someone. Regardless of allergies, no server should ever use their bare hands to "fix" a plate. As for the food itself--frankly, I don't understand the rave reviews. The sushi was mediocre at best and did not meet the quality or standards reflected in the many five-star ratings. The cafe is located in a strip shopping center, so after winding around the parking lot we finally found it. Plenty of parking out front. Walking in we were quickly sat and the place filled up after us. Service was just okay. The workers were very busy preparing to-go orders, and it seemed like the tables in the restaurant came second to those orders. My friend and I shared an order of edamame, and I had the sashimi platter for my meal. Our salads and sodas came quickly, although refills on soda were slow. When the edamame finally came out, it was followed about 15 seconds later by the sashimi platter. The edamame was perfectly cooked, and not too salty. The sashimi was fresh and good, although the tuna was unusually bland. The highlight, I thought, was the melt-in-your-mouth salmon. Few of the rolls were above $12. Cons: I ordered 4 rolls (I usually get 3). Spicy Tuna, Yellowtail and Jalapeno, Lobster, and Ocean Blue. Spicy tuna - The fish was mushy and not spicy. YT/JP - The jalapeno was fresh but I could barely taste any fish. Lobster - Nothing really stood out. OB - This had sweet potato in the ingredients which was different, but I felt like the outside and top of the roll was tastier than the inner part. I feel overall the food is 2.5/5 somewhat average. Even the placemat was paper which made the experience seem a little flat. I'm a blue collar guy, but I'm a little surprised by the rave reviews. I think that since this is purely in the suburbs, people are more generous. Another thing that irks me is the use of cream cheese in way too many rolls and I feel that the types of fish included could be more varied. Our server was new, and he did get a few things mixed up -- without getting into all the glaring details management made it more than right and they were super nice about it also, as always, the food here is excellent I ordered two rolls a bagel roll and a Florida roll as well as a salmon small plate. Everything was executed very well once the details were worked out. Madani partner ordered a steak, small plate with fried rice, and he was very very happy all in all no problem with the food. Came in for lunch on a Friday because I was in the mood for sushi. I've been here once before so I know it will fulfill my craving. I came in around 1 PM and was immediately sat. I knew what I wanted to I immediately ordered the Mexican and Monster rolls. The sushi comes with soup (clear or Miso) or salad. I got the Miso today and it was rather saltier today compared to last time. My rolls took longer than expected, but I assume that's because they are always extremely busy with takeout orders. My gosh, I've had many volcano rolls and this one has been by far the best I've ever had. The scallops were absolutely perfect with a nice hint of heat. The Monster roll was delicious as well but I could have definitely gone with two volcano rolls instead! The staff was super friendly and checked on us for refills. The fresh sushi definitely overcame my skepticism of this small space, we also left at the perfect time, it was starting to get packed with more customers. In the past I have left gleaming five star reviews here, but today their service left an extremely bad taste in my mouth. I have been coming to Sushi Cafe for around three years, and always had delicious food and excellent service. Today I returned, after having not been there for a couple of months. I had a very severe illness and spent months last year in Intensive Care, and looked very frail about a year ago. Since then, I have gained weight to fill my face and body out (mind you- I am still a size XS women's, and only about 105 lbs and my illness is not gone). I also have developed kidney issues, leaving me with a lot of bloating and edema in my cheeks. Today at my table two waitresses hovered over our party the entire time, commenting on my weight and round face. I heard about my full face, my "curvy figure", and my weight gain and physical appearance throughout my whole meal. It was really difficult to enjoy the meal that we paid $73 with two waitresses commenting on my body fat percentage the entire time. So much so that the other member of my party became uncomfortable. I really would have preferred to have been laughing and conversing with my family member instead. This is extremely inappropriate behavior for the service industry, and despite the fish being high-quality, it made me never want to return after years of enjoying meals there. Commenting on someone's weight is a sure way to make someone never return to your establishment again. I wouldn't recommend this place based on this. Two young ladies who bussed the table and brought the meal were very kind and helpful. I hope they got the entirety of the tip because I am appalled by the two older ladies' behavior- and I know they own and manage the restaurant. Not recommended. read more
