Miso soup that came with each bowl
Alan G.

This was a great find to enjoy lunch while attending an event at the nearby convention center. Junmai Station has a bit of an unassuming presence but their food and friendly service certainly made a positive impact. We went around 12:45 pm and unfortunately, nearly all of the onigiri were sold out, so definitely worth it to go earlier. We were fortunate to enjoy the salted salmon onigiri which had a good texture on the rice and well-seasoned salmon, with the only wish being that the seaweed wrap was sturdier. We also tried their gyu-don and ahi tuna-don. The gyu-don had the right level of seasoning for our palates, with a good amount of beef and onions in the bowl. The spicy tuna don was also excellent, with sliced, buttery avocado. The miso soup that came with the rice bowls also tasted fresh and properly seasoned. Overall, it was a great visit to Junmai Station and the main recommendation is to get there early to get the chance to try their other onigiri options in addition to their rice bowls.

Gyudon, seaweed salad and miso soup

Authentic musubi place in downtown Tampa? Yes please! While their musubi is authentic and delicious, I thought the price is bit too expensive. On the other hand, the combo meals are reasonable. They come with a delicious miso soup. I loved their Gyudon (very authentic) but could have used a little more sauce (I am used to Yoshinoya). Unfortunately I did not like their curry dish, as it looked more red than authentic Japanese curry and tasted like ketchup was in it. It had nice kick tho. The service was bit standoffish.....I didn't really like the vibe of this place. Not so welcoming and the workers seem unhappy as well. Anyways overall a delicious & authentic Japanese dishes good for takeout. Go there early! Most of musubis are out by 2pm.

One of my favorite lunch spots in the Downtown area! Reasonably priced, consistently fast service and fresh food! I love all of their rice balls and have recently started trying their bowls - which are only $12 and come with a complimentary miso soup! Tried the chicken teriyaki bowl last week and absolutely loved it!

It's such a cute little restaurant! We walked in after craving some onigiri. There's a rule of only buying 4. That was fine with us as there were only 4 flavors left. We really enjoyed all of our meals. The bowls all came with miso soup! We also ordered edamame, the mochi from japan, and the cheesecake bun! Also very delicious. Our most favorite bowl was the pork belly bowl. It had a nice gingery taste and was perfectly cooked! If we loved here and worked in downtown, we would definitely be here all the time. The employees were always checking in on us and were the sweetest things ever?

I loved getting lunch here! I got to try their beef curry and Gyudon with plum onigiri. The entrees came with a soup that was made with real miso and tofu. You can taste the authenticity as well as that home-cooked taste like a friend or family member cooked for you. It's definitely a favorite place of mine for lunch, and I wish it was closer to me! **They have very limited seating with a couple small tables outside and a few chairs inside. It's really more of an on the go place.

Can't believe we didn't know about this place even though we've been passing by the area frequently. It's a tiny place so most people were taking food to go. A lot of their stuffed rice balls were selling out quick so I'd recommend going there earlier than later if you want to try those. We were able to grab a variety of em (only 1 was sold out, and we were there at around noon). The salmon one and the spam one were my fav! We also got the Buta Don bowl (good, a lil bland imo) and the takoyaki (was too mushy, def had better...). Overall, a good place to pick up some quick, fairly healthy food for lunch!

Finally got to stop by here! I wish they were open on weekends but I get that their crowd is the downtown Tampa yuppies. I wish there were more places like this Tampa! The onigiris are all so tasty! And the Buta Don (pork belly and rice bowl) came with miso soup was very filling but not heavy. Perfect for lunch! If you're around the area, during the week day, at lunch time, you have to come by, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Get here early they sell out !!! But don't worry they can make them for you fresh if your willing to wait 5 minutes

One of the best finds of the year ! I have been trying to find an onigiri place since moving from nyc and Tampa was finally blessed with one right on Kennedy. Make sure you drive up Kennedy you won't be able to miss it! It's a small store front but the options of onigiri pack a punch. If you don't know what onigiri is it is a rice ball filled with meat (they have vegetarian sour plum and rainbow, chicken meatball, teriyaki glazed salmon, tuna Mayo, miso hamburger, beef, shrimp tempura kani salad, baked salmon ) oh the options and they even have mochi and other traditional lunch options including don buri bowls soup and seaweed salad! They can make them for you if they run out! Which they do because I'm yum?! The owner is very nice and super helpful with explaining the options. I would highly recommend and I totally will be back to this one of a kind place in Tampa. Probably one of my favorite finds this year!

Salmon bowl

Small little spot was incredible! I did not know what to expect from this place. I got the salmon bowl and I tried uncooked salmon for the first time. It was delish!!! My friend got the teriyaki chicken bowl, and she even mentioned that she will be back to try the other bowls. They were really quick for it being lunchtime in downtown Tampa. We also received miso soup as a side which I did not expect because the bowl was already $14 for a good amount of food. Can't wait to go back and keep trying different bowls/drinks

Pork Belly Bowl

Excellent Japanese food. Basically a takeaway place with a few seats inside and out. We had the pork belly bowl and a salty salmon roll. Highly recommend!

Ordered spam musubi, beef onigiri, and takoyaki. The takoyaki was amazinggggg. The batter was nice and soft with a slight chew to it and it was well seasoned. It was, however, expensive for just 4 pieces of takoyaki. The onigiri was good. I think it could have been better. The rice wasn't as well seasoned as j expected it to be. Otherwise, great selection, cute atmosphere, definitely will give the onigiris a try

Spicy Tuna Don, Miso Soup
Hannah B.

My favorite grab-and-go lunch spot in downtown. The tuna always tastes high-quality and fresh, never gristly. The portions are pretty solid for the prices and I love, love, *love* their miso soup. Pro tip: call ahead 15-20 mins if you're ordering during peak lunch hours-- this is a popular spot for people working in downtown, and it can't take a bit for the food to come out otherwise. Always worth the wait, though!

Parking is tough, it's very crowded in the restaurant. The sushi rice was not good whether it was on a roll or not, the sashimi is not as fresh. The tuna was tough. The flavors blended so well together. I wanted to eat more. Garlic prawns were delish, and shareable, the braised short rib udon was also tasty. The salmon crudo was 3/5, it could've used more flavor. End of the night they offered us free ice cream- tasted like coffee with other delish vanilla and crushed ube cookie. Well prepared, not greasy for a deep-fried meal. The Negroni was delicious and very well stirred. The food got more uneven from there. The crown roll was just ok -- heavy on the rice, the crab was tough, the yuzu-kosho tuna on top was very good. On the sashimi, the hamachi was good but the akami missed. I'm used to bluefin melting in my mouth and this didn't -- it tasted far from fresh and left a strong aftertaste. Overall, the sushi quality wasn't worth the price. Bottom line: great service from Bella and a solid cocktail, but the sushi didn't deliver for what you pay.

Hubby and I started with the neki toro and tempura poke rolls both which were super fresh. The rolls also seemed to have less rice than other sushi restaurants we frequent which we both loved. If you are a tuna lover like I am, I highly recommend to try the toro flight as well! The Dungeness crab salad was interesting but absolutely delish. It comes on a bed of tuna carpaccio which makes for a nice presentation. The kamo crostini (duck breast with onion jam on house made toast points) is inventive and flavorful. Each bite had that satisfying sweet and savory element to it. To round out our supper, we also shared the kinoko gohan with salmon (mushroom coconut rice with a salmon filet) and it was for sure the highlight of the meal! The salmon is marinated and cooked to perfection so it just melts in your mouth and much like the crostini, there is a sweet and savoriness to each bite of the salmon and rice. For desert we tried the soy milk panna cotta which was silky and light. The restaurant itself is super cute and well done inside. It is dark enough to create a cozy, intimate ambiance without being so dark you can't see what you are eating. The noise level is also acceptable. I would get this every single time and I wish other places made it. My friends all loved their drinks too, so I think the drinks here were a total hit. Our absolute favorite dish was a mushroom coconut rice. We actually ended up ordering a second order of it because it was so good. If you like coconut, this is your dish. It is a savory dish so it is eaten for dinner. All of the rolls were very good too. They come with eight pieces so they are on the larger side. All of the fish tasted so fresh. The one thing I was not a fan of was the Shishito peppers. They weren't as blistered as I generally like it. Also, the kale salad was a little spicy for my taste. I did love the candied nuts and if it wasn't so spicy, I would have enjoyed it so much more. But I do think the taste was really interesting and if you can handle spice, I would recommend it. The desserts are divine. We got the Belgian waffle and the Panna cotta. The Panna cotta was definitely my favorite. They are small desserts so at first, I was nervous ordering two desserts for our table of four women, but when they came, we cracked up because our waitress said that the Belgian waffle was perfect for four people, and it was because we had another dessert. Otherwise it is tiny. These are not huge desserts. This place is basically on Sparkman's wharf. So paid parking is plenty full as long as there isn't an event happening. The decor of this place is beautiful. It is dark but not too dark and it is easy to have a conversation because it isn't super loud. I would definitely come back to this place.
