I went by for dinner. So it's the new hot spot in town. Had the sushi and a scallops, my date had the pork chops. The sushi was ok, it tasted good but the sumitro and tightness was fair, it fell apart. They didn't give enough ginger or wasabi. My scallops were excellent, I suspect they were suisvide. My dates pork chops were tough. They fought with them with a knife. I wish they had hard alcohol. I would be back for the change of pace. I wish them the best and I will be back. read more

Pricey mediocre sushi. We had some good sushi when it first opened but on our last visit before this the fish was overcooked and dry. Sushi rice was very sticky, the blackened ahi didn't taste like sushi grade. My wife who did some training with a sushi chef in Milwaukee thought the only bad sushi was no sushi. Very different restaurant from the rest on this avenue. Was very appealing for this city girl. Once there the menu looked great. Finally chose a roll from all the great options. Had the crab beez neez...super creative names. My roll was great...took some home only to finish it an hour later. Service was great and everyone was friendly. OMG, this place is fabulous, and a total surprise for little Sturgeon Bay! The Crab French Onion was a refreshing take on regular French Onion soup. It was an appropriate start to meal that was full of interesting combinations. Our other starter was a wonderful Ahi sushi roll. We both had the specials for our entrees, mine was the local farm raised beef special which was a hamburger topped w a smooth liver pate and grilled onions. My husband had the Red Halibut and risotto. The Wisco Sake cocktail was also a different take on the world famous Wisconsin Old Fashioned. Crate is always a go to place with fantastic food & drink! Our last experience wasn't any different. The edamame was perfect. The two whitefish dishes & one vegan dish were on point. And the deconstructed cheesecake with fried wontons was tasty & fun. Our server is a favorite of mine, you may remember him from Trio. The front of the house staff is always eager to provide a special experience & the kitchen always brings it with flavor & creativity. The ambiance also adds so much to the evening. Crate sushi was good, though the service was terrible. If you are in a rush, don't come. Beginning with when we walked in, a waiter gave us some attitude and made us feel as though we were not welcome to come in. Though we seemed to be underdressed, its on the Main Street and should not have created an issue with the staff. We really enjoyed our dinner here. It was probably the best service I've ever had anywhere and I say that because the waitress made me feel like it was really important to her personally for us to enjoy our food. Yes, the sushi rolls are small in diameter and I actually really liked that because it fits in your mouth! Everything was very tasty and fresh. We were skeptical based on the moderate reviews but were pleasantly surprised by the quality and diversity of the menu. Service was attentive and personable. Our party had the frenched chicken with Lobster, the salmon and the daily special, crisp duck with whipped potatoes and asparagus. Great taste, beautiful presentation and comfortable decor. The nutty asparagus sushi appetizer with crunchy wasabi peas was a treat. Beet salad with door county creamerie goat cheese also very tasty. read more

Crate was great (haha!)! The sushi was different - not your typical cali/philly rolls. It was nice trying something new. The entrees were fantastic. My husband had the pork with mashed potatoes. It came with this amazing bacon and butter reduction. I would eat those mashed potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - they were THAT good. I had the salmon, which was well-made, and came with these cute little sweet-potato curly-Q crunchies on top. We split the creme brûlée and that was good, too. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We happened to go around 4 in the afternoon so it wasn't crowded at all. I can see that place getting noisy when the dinner crowd shows up. read more

We had the sea scallops, tenderloin and spicy tuna and they were really great. We ate ate Crate on a sub-zero January Saturday night. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Music was awesome in the background. The saketiki cocktails are off the chain. Benjamin, our server, was upbeat, had a great sense of humor, and was most attentive. The sushi was was "par excellence", and after one of the toughest weeks my hubby and I have faced, this was such a refreshing and romantic evening for us. Everyone on staff was welcoming and great. The chef prepared sushi to die for, and the desserts were astounding. Sturgeon Bay at its absolute finest! We fell in love with Crate and re-affirmed our love for each other. Crate is the BEST! Cool spot and location. Great ambiance, but i would not return. We started with the crab baked French onion soup. It was pretty good but the cheese was just too overpowering. Next up we ordered sushi which was terrible. Honestly probably the worst sushi I have ever had and completely over priced. No one at our table enjoyed their rolls. We had spicy tuna, California, geisha girl and golden philly . My roll had a black hair in it and I'm a blonde. The restaurant was packed and service was slow. Our waters sat unfilled. They do have a nice entree selection and looking around more patrons opted for theses dishes than the sushi. read more

Crate was a delightful surprise. The ambience was nice...at times a bit noisy but overall warm and inviting. We came thinking we would get a typical entree of meat, potatoes..... we ended up with delicious sushi and a starter of Dim Sum (yum! Perfect for two) ended with Creme Brûlée! Kitchen is overwhelmed, Wait staff struggling. Had a very lackluster meal that we waited for nearly one hour. Whitefish was extremely overcooked...it turned to a soggy mess. And whitefish is usually a win win in Door County. Two companions found the sushi mediocre. Many unhappy and glum faces around our table..waiting for their food...and playing on their phones. Struggling and sweet wait staff attempting to appease everyone. Pare down the menu and concentrate on making the dishes left..much better. And final note. Fire the rude blonde at front of the house. I've been to this restaurant several times since they opened. The food and service have been spot on. So nice to have delicious sushi in door county. Try the spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, & dragon roll. So good!! Great decor and ambience really made me feel welcome. For dessert the deep fried cheesecake was a decadent choice for sure share it. Went with friends to try the sushi and was not disappointed. The dining room is simply decorated, not ostentatious, a bit noisy but fun with good service from the staff. I stuck to the Maki appetizer menu and ordered volcano and spicy Ahi, very good at $10 each. The menu is diverse and some entrees are pricey but everyone commented on the quality which is a price buffer. Good selection of beers, wines and sake cocktails, Sake-it-to-me! This place has really nice interior design, and good fish dishes. I went there with my mom since she is basically pescatarian+no dairy+no butter. Her mahi mahi has nice presentation, but barely any flavors. Me and my husband are both huge fans of sushi so we ordered sushi. My earl avocado did not have much eel nor eel sauce in there. What's more? The rice was raw... this is my first time ever had RAW rice in a sushi place. The other signature roll I ordered did not have raw rice, so even though the staff gave an excuse that it's late they are speeding up their production, it does not make any sense... other sushi rolls we ordered had okay flavors but the rice was like others have reviewed, TOO MOIST. I really do not want to sounds mean, but the sushi chef really really needs to learn how to make rice properly. I would not return since even after taking that eel avocado off the bill, it was still too much to pay for their sushi's quality... read more

Wife loves sushi so glad to see this coming to Sturgeon Bay. The place looks great 5 stars for atmosphere with very unique decor. Had the calamari, a ahi maki roll and a smoked salmon roll. The rolls were good but I think the calamari was my favorite some of the best tempura I have ever had with a great sauce. The staff was all very friendly. It took a little long to get our rolls but it was a soft opening so that was understandable. Going to go back again for sure hope this stays around longer then 136 read more

We went to Crate for the first time but I promise it won't be the last! The drinks were fantastic, the food as fantastic and our waiter (Benjamin) was even more fantastic! A few must haves...the french onion/crab bisque and the deep fried key line cheesecake. Our table also ordered the frenched pork chop, grilled fish, scallops, cheese plate, Brussel sprouts, creme brûlée and flourless chocolate cake. The next bite was better than the last and we will all be talking about this place until we can get back their again. I plan to become a regular. It is THAT good! read more
