If I could give this Crate and Barrel location negative stars, I would! With friends getting married, Crate and Barrel is my go-to store to buy wedding or housewarming gifts, and I have never had a bad experience with Crate and Barrel. However, I've heard bad experiences similar to the reviewers on here who have given this location one star--rude, condescending, or even downright racist service by staff--and am disheartened to see that those stories were not isolated incidents. It is sad to hear that people cannot treat each other better in this time and age. I definitely won't be shopping at this location--save yourself the heartache and go to Williams-Sonoma instead! I like crate and barrel online but the stores are always meh bc of the people who work there. This one is no exception. Not friendly, do not greet. One lady in furniture (short gray pixie hair) took down all my info and sounded like she would be really helpful. Sent me one half-assed email with links to things she knew I was not looking at when at the store. Said she would email me info re what we discussed - then completely ghosted next. This stores employees and customer service have a lot to be desired. They all have a better than you attitude and don't seem to care if they offend you or not. After asking for help 2 times I was still given an attitude by 2 different employees that I walked out of the store and purchased my large order online. I love this place, and the people who work here. I live in Saugerties, NY, about a 1.5 hour drive, so it often takes me a while to gather any online ordering errors I've made and make the trip to return them. Even though returns are never fun (I know, having worked in retail in a past life), the staff always does what they can to either process the credit or convert a late return into a gift card to use at my convenience. During my visit earlier this week, I met Edie, who is technically "retired," but chooses to work for the action and interaction with people. I loved how she just took control of the technology to process my credit card (because every system is different, it often creates confusion/frustration/time-waste on both sides to explain the swiping, the showing of the card, the chip, the email/zip code/phone number confirmation). This seems like such a "nothing" compliment, but really, it's about dignity and professionalism. So often, we get in the mode of interacting with the technology, and putting *it* in charge. But instead, Edie took charge and interacted with *me*. She took over the technology to help her help me, and in the process, I was able to connect with *her*. Crate and barrel lied about the availability and the delivery date of my furniture. They can't find 2/3 of the pieces I purchased. The delivery staff was unable to follow simple directions to comply with my building delivery requirements and they were verbally abusive to my wife and myself to boot. Poor customer service via phone! I called two days ago to check stock on sheets (Btw your phone system does not work most times says welcome to Merlin system) So Paula picks up phone after 8 rings should be three or less, I ask her do you have this sku # in stock? She puts me on hold after 5mins said Hold I'll check stock room...I said ok..then she said whu would you want to hold It will take 15mins I said ok here's my name and number... 2 hours later no call so I phone and ask for her she gets on phone And I had to go over the sheets she said I don't have them and I get click in my ear! I then call west elm what ease it was to find out about sheets!! All but 5 mins!!! read more

Never in my life have I been so please with buying furniture. From the moment I walked in the store i did not feel overwhelmed or annoyed. The women who helped us Melanie M was BEYOND helpful. Not pushy in the least bit, normally I feel that salespeople suggest things to buy just to get you to buy more. I really felt like Melanie took the time and took note of what our style was and showed us things that really went with our sofa and personal style. We ended up buying a coffee table that we didn't even consider. It looks so perfect with the sofa and she was very conscious of our price range. I don't think i can really express how appreciative I am for all of her help. Not only was she kind and attentive and helpful, but when she was not in the store if i had a question everyone else i spoke to was just as nice and friendly and helpful. I've moved 4 times this year and this current move has been nothing but one issue after another so for her to make this aspect so easy just really means a lot to me. Delivery : Not only was the idea of delivery to a 5th floor walk up a huge stress, it ended up being a nightmare for everything besides crate and barrel delivery. It was Beyond reasonably priced ( NOT LIKE IKEA ) and the movers were really nice. The called an hour before they arrived which was really nice and gave me a better chance to prepare for their arrival ( instead of sitting around waiting all day ) They were in and out in less then 15 minutes. They were very conscious of their surroundings. I've had movers make a complete mess out of everything and just drop stuff off and leave. But they took out all of the excess stuff and even placed our table exactly where i wanted it for me ( They even put the water i gave them on top of papers i had out instead of putting the drink on wood, I can't even get my partner to do this ) Anyway moving so much we are on a tight budget, however i rather spend more money on things in the future at crate and barrel simply because i've had such a good experience with them. I plan on buying our desk there and stools for our counter next month. Also as someone who has never owned a home or patio set... I find the poor rating for the patio set being ruined because ignorance about cold weather to be stupid and offensive. EVERYONE knows you don't leave patio furniture out all winter. There are certain things here that you can find at IKEA, but for the most part Crate and Barrel just looks, feels, and is better....but how much are you willing to pay for better! I ordered a kitchen table and instead got a kitchen island. The ensuing process to get a table could not have gone better. Excellent service, friendly employees in receiving and in the store. Correct item delivered today and the delivery went perfectly smooth. Except for the initial error (I think the cashier just hit the wrong item) this transaction was ideal. read more

The lady i dealt with over the weekend to purchase a couch was very very nice! However she made it very clear that we cant make any changes to our custom order after 72 hours nor return it which is fine. The down side is that i received a receipt with no info on it of the "customization" and have been trying for the last 4 hours to get a hold of someone who can help me and verify what is being ordered, and obtain a copy of it. I am currently on hold as we speak for the last 13 min. My husband tried over an hour ago, and was placed on hold for 30 min and then hung up on. I will change the rating if i hear back/my call gets answered/if i get the info i am requesting. If not i will attempt to cancel my $4000 order-- after 34 min i finally got a hold of the person who sold me the couch. Again super nice but what a hassle read more

I bought an expensive patio set. The table was flawed and failed when the tubing filled with rainwater, froze, bubbled up and lifted the glass, thus breaking it. The store said I should have brought my patio furniture into the house when it rains and when it gets cold. After threats they offered $100 store credit.. mind you for a set that costs $1500.00. After many years of being a customer and overpaying for the low quality goods peddled by this organization, I realized the concept of branding garbage does not make the garbage any better.. especially since the store does not replace the garbage when it fails. Crate and Barrel overcharged me for an item. When the item was returned, I was not getting credited properly. It took over an hour to rectify the situation. Needlesstosay, my experience was poor. The staff was incompetent and lacked any customer service. Given the many choices to purchase furniture, I would not purchase from Crate and Barrel again. Crate and Barrel. You can do without the charming response that management handled the issue. If management was going to handle the issue properly, they would have done so at the first sight of a problem. And not allow this to drag on and on. The sales employees are paid on commission. I like the lay-out of this store - everything on display is bright and cheery. The staff is helpful and don't hover but let you know they will assist you with any questions. I registered for my wedding here 5 years ago and I think the quality of their goods have improved over the years (not that it was bad back then!). After our moving into new house, we bought our a few room furnitures here and I felt that the service was the best we've ever had from a furniture store. The staff was followed up a few times to make sure the delivery was on time and were happy with it. For a company that has an excellent product, your customer service and delivery department is the worst of any corporation I have ever dealt with! I understand that you switched your computer service from warehouse to delivery, but to make customers wait 8-9 weeks for deliveries is INSANE. We purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise from the Paramus store. Most arrived, but some did not. The rug arrived damaged and I was told a replacement would be available in a week. Here we are 8 weeks, 8weeks, 8weeks!!! later and I was told via a call that the rug was in. We took time off from work to pick it up at the store only to discover NO rug had arrived and that they hadn't received a delivery in over a month due to this disastrous glitch! I was told they would overnight the rug to us. I heard nothing today so when I called, the manager informed me they could not do the overnight. Had I not called, would I have ever heard? We got NOTHING from the manager except "we tried to accommodate you!" He is paid, I lost a day's pay to go there plus waiting all day for a delivery that wasn't even coming! We received NO discount for anything, no gratuitous apology. I will NEVER shop C&B again. Your customer relations are AWFUL as are your managers. Customer service is great here. Everyone's really helpful especially management. Definitely worth befriending them and finding out when there are sales and clearances. Good quality comes with a price but you can definitely pay under retail for bigger purchases such as beds, tables, lawn furniture etc. read more

This is not a comment on the goods sold by C&B. It is a national and online retailer. This comment is directed to thIs particular store in Paramus, NJ. The sales staff are comprised mostly of part time employees who don't know anything about what they are selling. If you ask a question their usual response is, " let me ask about that." Know what you're buying before you go in. I shop for furniture and decor at C&B. I like to shop for floor samples, clearance and ready to take home items. I prepare to wait at least 45mins to 2hrs to pick up these items from customer pick up. I think they forget that they sell furniture and items that require strong 2+ppl to wrap and carry. While the sales staff looks abundant the support and stock room staff is non existent. I bought a rug off the showroom floor then watched a small 60ish women try to roll,bag & carry the 90 lbs rug herself. I waited 20 mins hoping another staffer would assist before I went and helped her. C&B has a snotty kind of rep with expensive white glove service but not at this store!
