With summer coming, I want to caution others about my experience with Trail Tire on Whyte Ave…read more The repair work on my van was of poor quality and left my vehicle unsafe and unusable, creating a very difficult situation since last year. On July 2 2025, I had my van towed to Ernie's Blackpoint Repair after the starter failed, even though it had recently been replaced by Trail Tire. During the original starter replacement, Trail Tire technicians identified an issue with a bolt joint and told me they would need to weld it to complete the extraction and repair. I agreed, trusting the work would be completed safely and professionally. After inspecting the van, Clint at Ernie's Blackpoint Repair determined that the repair appeared improper and unsafe. According to the inspection, the bolt had been sheared off at an angle and recessed deep into the structure, making extraction extremely difficult. The weld had also been performed without removing the rubber isolator mount, resulting in a repair that was considered structurally unsound. Part of the inspection summary states: "Upon further inspection, the bolt enters the body structure and is sheared off at a significant angle. Extraction may not be possible due to difficulty in finding the center. Recessed significantly. Unable to determine if cross-threaded. The welding attempt was not appropriate due to the removal of the proper rubber isolator mount. Not structurally sound. Proper repair likely requires taking the van to a body shop to replace the lower radiator support tie bar with a recycled and properly welded component. Also missing one of three bolts at the rear support attachment point."
