I would like to start by saying, i am appalled by the service, or shall i say lack thereof at this place. We have eaten here twice now, once for dinner and once for Sunday brunch. Dinner was great, service was fine. I had the ahi tacos and they were really good. Not enough bar tenders though. But the second time..... we waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our food!!!!!!!!! There were 4 of us.....! Ridiculous =-( All we ordered was a queso, chicken & waffles, and a breakfast burrito. We ate there or we're going to eat there this weekend we went in for breakfast. They were out of milk, they were out of orange juice. The coffee was served and filthy mugs and when I open the silverware from the napkin the silverware had food on it and it was greasy. Needless to say we canceled our order and walked out. This was the first time that my son and I went to check this place out. We apparently got there before the big rush. The server started out being attentive. She took our drink order and food order and then disappeared. I agree with the common theme here. The service was entirely TOO slow. I would have rated them much lower if the food had not been good. Our server never came back to refill our drinks at all. My son's Chicken and Waffles were good. I ordered the Frito Pie, which was more of a "kiddie" size. The cheese in it was not even melted. Their "famous" chili was ok. It was a tad bit over seasoned. I was almost "heartburn city". For the price, I expected portions to be a tad bit larger. Service could use some help. The table when we sat down was dirty. The server had to wipe it down. I am not really sure where she kept disappearing to. I saw another female server checking her phone ever 2 minutes. They could not have been that busy if a server was messing with her phone. I get that its a college town and college kids do not expect much in terms of service. Let me start with it was not crowded or even busy so the kitchen nor wait staff was not overwhelmed. Of the few people inside, they had been there a long while just having drinks. Our waitress was okay-ish, but not great. Water was not filled up, took a long time to get a waitress, not sure how often she was checking to see if our food was ready as it took a really long time. The food was not good. Mac n Cheese had an odd flavor and served in a paper bowl from HEB. Pesto pasta was boxed pasta salad from HEB with no flavor. Shrimp tacos were downright pathetic. The taco was empty, literally empty!!! except three tiny shrimp the size of my thumb nail. I asked where the slaw or the sauce was and she siad "well, I questioned the chef because I thought it looked odd too" and it was left right there. Nothing else to fix the problem. Went in yesterday for breakfast, I ordered waffles they were okay not fancy for the price. They were super thin like thin pancakes....waffles are thick! Service was good until I noticed they charged my credit card twice the next day. Update called the craft-house spoke with a manager and he said it happens allot. Wow! I hate writing this, but here we go. The brisket hash was truly one of the best breakfast items I have ever had in my life, period. It is on the strength of the brisket hash that I write this, in hopes that these guys will sort themselves out so I can come back and enjoy it again. Our server was sweet and friendly, but she took a million years to stop by our table, and she never brought us our beers. We ordered queso as an appetizer. The chips were store-bought, which wouldn't have been the end of the world, but for the fact that the queso was lukewarm. My girlfriend's hashbrowns were wet, and cool. She was served butter and jam with her toast - I was not. I'm bummed. New favorite spot. Not only was the food great, our waitress was AMAZING and the atmosphere is fantastic to just sit and hangout. I got the salad bar, small, and our waitress gave me a large plate for the same price. Boyfriend got a chicken sandwich something with pulled pork mac and cheese and loved it. The salad bar is great, fresh and has a ton of options. Our waitress was seriously so great. Gave me a 8 dollar margarita for 2.50, boyfriend also got a screwdriver for 2.50. She was perfectly attentive and just the right amount of friendly. Wow! This place completely blew me away! We went there for breakfast on the first day of our trip to SM and loved it so much we ended up going there the next day for breakfast as well. I got the breakfast nachos, which were delicious! My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito and loved it as well! The ambiance of the whole place was so chill and cool. There is a nice patio with great views of the square. We went in the beginning of June so even with the fans it was still a bit too hot for us. The price of everything is truly what shocked me, it was all so reasonable! The service was fantastic, we never felt ignored but also never felt like we were being hoovered around. The Crafthouse side of the bar is okay, they have decent food, atmosphere and specials, The DaqFaq side however is just gross, perpetually sticky bar, staff more interested in flirting than serving customers, and really gross bathrooms that no one is apparently paid enough to clean. I pass through this bar fairly often since its near where I live and some of my friends like it, and in all fairness some of their beer and daiquiri specials are very decent. Its sad that someone obviously put hard work into designing a cool bar with good food and then turned it over to rude and incompetent college kids. read more

Awful. Me and my girl wanted to go for breakfast here since we had never been here before. I called and apparently the manager picked up the phone she was very rude and I asked her a couple of questions about the breakfast menu and their 'farm to table options' and she said and I quote "we have a very large menu and it MAYBE farm to table I mean that's what we've been told" That was the most shadiest answer I've ever heard from a restaurant manager. I'm very skeptical about their farm to table claims I really hope it's not a lie just to get more business in the door. Pretty dope spot. I graduated over a year ago and came back to watch the National Championship with some friends. Wasn't too crowded but still a fun atmosphere. The food's okay for bar food, but you can find it anywhere in town. The service is so slow, and it seems like your server just disappears like a magic trick. They never know what drinks they've run out of either, which is just lack of communication. You can't come ask someone to change their drink order twice cause you're out and then tell them you have no clue what we have let me check, or bring food but no silverware and just disappear. This is the second time we've been to Crafthouse since they opened a short time ago. To say we are craving it is an understatement. Today we ordered the Crafthouse Poppers which are applewood smoked bacon dates with goat cheese...OH MY GOODNESS. They absolutely melt in your mouth and are sinfully unsinful (I mean, it's a date, right....gotta be healthy). We also had the Smoked Brisket Nachos with house smoked brisket the likes of which any Texan would be proud to call their own. Listen, EVERYTHING here is house made. Nothing is frozen or pre-made. The queso...on top of the in-house smoked brisket or by itself will set you free! There's really not enough I can say about this place. The atmosphere is on point with outdoor seating under the awning and PLENTY of seating in the restaurant. Lots of beer on tap along with just about every kind of drink you could even think about consuming. Bottom line, from food to drinks to atmosphere and service you will not go wrong with the Crafthouse. It's located on the corner just off the main square in San Marcos. If you're here for school, visiting your college kid, or just driving through, it is absolutely worth the visit. You will not regret it, and might just find yourself craving it (as I do). read more

Service was slow and not attentive. I ordered an appetizer that did not come until after the food was served. There was an apology but at that point I should have just sent it back because everyone was already eating. I ordered the Chicken Club but it didn't come with the mayo and had to wait too long to track down the waiter so we had to go find him. 2 out of 3 of the leafy vegetables in the salad bar were out as were at least 2 of the other vegetables.
