We have been here several times. First with some other couples. Great time and great food. Came bBack again with just my husband and myself and it has really gone downhill the last two times we visited. the service was horrendous. Both recent visits they got my drink wrong . Then in addition to that they bought a second cocktail I didn't order and then a glass of wine that was white when I ordered a red. The same visit we ordered smoked wings and they brought us the wrong type/flavor. when I told our server that they were not hot wings but sweet she brought us a small cup with the hot sauce to try to argue that that is what was on our wings unfortunately for her it only proved our point and she eventually agreed that she brought us the incorrect order and had given ours to another table. Our third visit here they gave us the wrong check. When she brought us the correct check for our table they had charged us for two additional entrées we did not order. There were only two of us there and they charged us for four entrees. While they removed the extra charges from the bill it took more than 30 minutes of waiting for them to do so. Will not be going back read more

I had high hopes. Short wait and got seated near the bar. Apparently the hostess never told anyone we were seated and we waited 15 minutes before we said something and then it was another 5 minutes before someone came to the table. Ok, no big deal not the end of the world. Ordered our food and it took quite a while to come out. Seems that the kitchen was severely lacking in attention to detail. Burger came out significantly under cooked and incorrect. Got"comped" a dessert. Got the blueberry cobbler which was very obviously Frozen and soggy. Overall I'm just really disappointed. The manger tried to make it better. Beer selection was decent. But don't waste your time. read more

Came here with a friend for an early dinner on a Friday night and was quite impressed for a place I didn't know existed more than ten minutes before we arrived. The place was busy and a lot of training was going on as well: there was an extra hostess in training and two or three waiters/servers being trained, including our table. We had Misty and she was training a tall gentleman with dark hair and they were both fantastic. She introduced herself which I always love and then also introduced him to us. She went over the specials for the day and guided us through the beer and wine listings they had; it was all very nice! She gave us enough time to look through all the menu and drink specials before coming back, without taking too long despite how many tables she had. We ordered a pizza and a burger and split both. I went with a wheat ale and my friend went with a stout; both were nice and cold. I was thoroughly impressed with the food, the experience, and the overall ambience of the place. It did disappoint me to see so many families with kids that were down on their phones texting and not paying attention, but that's at no fault of the restaurant. I will definitely be back here! read more

Stay with the burgers. Chose the fish entree and it was tasteless. Vegetable side was overdone. Salad was fine. We noticed other diners ordered burgers and everyone seemed happy. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed everything that was delivered to our table, from the beer and creamy milkshakes to the apps and entrees. Mozzarella tracks appetizer portion was way bigger than it needed to be but the bread was light and topped with the perfect balance of garlic and cheese. The burgers were outstanding. We had the diner burger and the El Guapo and would love to try the rest. Sweet potato fries were a bit too sweet (maybe glazed with something?) but the braised kale was tender and perfectly balanced with sweetness and acidity. Dinged one star for the two hour wait for our food. Apparently there were staffing problems in the kitchen. The manager was super communicative and ultimately took 25% off our bill, and the server kept us happy with drinks, chips, and checking in in case we needed anything. If it weren't for that we wouldn't have stayed. Hope this was an unusual event because the food and vibe were great! Bonus pints for the bowl if Atomic fireballs at the door. :) read more

We were in town for another soccer game and my daughter and I gave Craft 31 another try, and I am so glad we did. The food was amazing and our server, Natalie, was great! Highly recommend the truffle parmasean fries. read more

Myself and two coworkers decided to have drinks here after work. Due to covid regulations we did not set at the bar,we were seating at a table with a waitress (kelly). As we are enjoying our drinks and conversation our waitress asked my co workers( a Caucasian man and woman if they would like something else as she removed there empty glasses.they order more and I expected for the waitress to ask me as well, but instead she started to walk away. I spoke up and ask the her for another of what I was having from across the dinning room as she did not come back to the table to see what I was getting her attention for. As we finished that next order she proceeded to clear the table again of just my co workers empty items and not mine once agian. My co workers mentioned it amongst the table and we let it go. Fast forward and we get the our Bill's. One person leaves cash as I myself and one other pay with a card. All three Bill's were placed on the table in the area were seated. The waitress walked by the table, picked my check up and no one else's? Brings me back my bill then takes the other two after?. I cant say this was racially motivated but i have no other reason to thank otherwise, furthermore at the end of my experience at this restaurant I will not be returning along with my co workers. As a black man I expect the same service as anyone else and this day i did not experience such. read more

This was our 2nd visit to Craft 31. The atmosphere is great. We were not impressed with portion sizes, especially for things that have an up charge like the sweet potato fries. Gosh, it was 6 bites and done! The burger was tasty enough, but also a bit small for the price in my opinion. Our waitress was a nice young lady but she didn't come check on us enough. One member of our party asked a question about her order and the manager was a bit curt. That's never acceptable. There won't be a 3rd visit. read more

My in-laws live in Williamsburg and this our GO TO restaurant. The food never disappoints and the staff is always on point. But Craft 31 became so much more when COVID wreaked havoc on the world and my 2020 wedding plans came to a screeching halt. I had to plan a wedding that I felt would accommodate my aging parents, in laws, and guests. My original venue cancelled on me 40 days before the wedding and I had to throw myself into gear to figure out an alternative plan. Craft 31 and its incredible outdoor patio space became my go to. Although not a traditional move to host a reception at a restaurant, I talked myself out of 'tradition' during a global pandemic and made the decision to move forward with the tried and true restaurant on Strawberry Plains Road. It was literally THE BEST decision I've ever made. Jess, the Event Coordinator was incredibly understanding, prompt in her responses, and seriously made every transaction leading up to the day seamless. She even took the time to create menus that looked similar to my husbands and my wedding invitation. The excellence did not stop there. It poured on our wedding day which (for a bride) was a stressful experience, especially considering I had to do a lot of last minute replanning on the day of to accommodate the pandemic and the pouring rain. I showed up at Craft 31 after our ceremony to not only be surprised by the transformation of the space but the absolutely OVER THE TOP and INCREDIBLE customer service by our team that evening. Jay Loft, our waiter and team lead was a literal godsend that evening. Jay was extremely energetic, personable, funny, attentive, friendly - There are not enough adjectives to properly describe him. He was SO great that I had multiple friends interested in inviting him out (including myself!) for drinks afterwards. The team took all 30 of our guests orders and had them out in NO TIME. So many people stopped us afterwards and the weeks to come to tell us how great it was to have non traditional wedding food but GOOD food that they actually enjoyed. Everything about the service, the space, and the ambiance saved my wedding day - I wish I was exaggerating- but I'm not - Craft 31 over performed on a day that I REALLY needed it most. Our guests loved it so much that we went back for brunch the next morning and spent time with the staff again reminiscing on the night before. I've always loved this place as our go to restaurant when visiting Williamsburg but now it holds an extremely SPECIAL place in my heart. Thank you to Jess and Jay for being the saviors I didn't know I needed and Thank you to Craft 31 for NEVER disappointing. read more

We returned today after a period of not coming here. We had hoped for improvement since our last visit when our burgers were all over cooked and the service was terrible. Sadly tonight was not much different. Even though they were fairly slow for a Friday evening it took a while for service. We were offered our burgers pink or not pink. My hubby decided on meatloaf while I got the black and blue burger and order it pink. It took a while to come out while we weren't checked on in between. My burger was cooked all the way through. I didn't ask for a replacement due to amount of time It took to get the first one. After that our server failed to come back at all. We both wanted another beer but by the time she returned we were done waiting and just asked for the check. She gave that to us but then disappeared again so we went to the bar to pay. They lost out additional beer sales and return customers as I think we are officially done with trying here. It's a shame it could have been a great place but just hasn't stepped up. read more

The food was really good. The beer selection was great. Coming from out-of-state, I enjoyed the variety of local beers that we don't have in PA. The service was a little slow. Our waitress seemed a little over-extended. The manager did come out and apologized. We didn't mind waiting but we have an infant so I didn't want to disturb other patrons once he got fussy. We would definitely come here again on a future trip. read more

After having lived in Shockoe Bottom in Richmond, I'm pretty accustomed to Bottoms Up pizza whom Craft 31 is affiliated with. My husband and I decided to give this place a try on a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were told it would be a bit of a wait but that was no problem. After 10 minutes, we were seated. I was so surprised at the décor, it was fantastic. The overall ambiance of the place was very different from Bottoms Up and even Williamsburg, it reminded me of restaurants in Charleston. I decided to order a crab cake sandwich and my husband ordered a burger. My crab cake was deep fried, which was unexpected but it was good. My husband's burger came out wrong but we were able to pick off the things he didn't order and the staff was very apologetic. We also ordered a dessert, but it was $9 and the portion size was extremely small. Not to say the cobbler we ordered was not good, it was but there should just be more of it. I also asked our server for more water and it was never brought as she was too busy greeting other tables, so I had to ask her again for more water. 4 stars for the mishaps, but we will back again to try more things. read more

Awesome atmosphere great bar both indoor and out... The place really looks good all the reclaimed wood give it a nice touch. Both the service and food were excellent. This is a great place to grab a burger and a beer. The only downside was the woman complaining about nothing in the corner. read more

I am a local here in Williamsburg and really appreciate the fact that craft 31 has entered the area. Their beer choices are the best around. The only problem I have is that one of the main things on the menu is their hamburgers. Unfortunately there are very Limited choices and nothing special that I feel I would leave my house for. They really need to put more thought into their burgers as this is really their niche. I hope they change their menu up in the near future as I would be much more likely to return. At this point I would simply rather go there and have a beer and leave than spend money on a meal. read more

My husband and I stopped at this place for beer and pizza after yelping it, and a very long walk. The beer was great, and the seafood pizzas we had were amazing. My husband had the Rochafella with smoked oysters and bacon, and I had the Chesapeake with fresh crab. I tasted his, and loved it. I have never had oysters because it sounds disgusting, but my husband convinced me to try it. Our waitress, sorry, I don't remember her name, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. We sat outside in the patio. The only thing I didn't like was that they don't let you have a few samples of the beer without paying:-( Most breweries and restaurants that have craft beer, allow you to try them out before buying. read more

If I could give it lower I would. Can't get a sip of beer to taste before you order don't waste your time here. Won't be back.

A coworker and friend of mine regularly share our observations and experiences regarding dinning in and around the Williamsburg Area. He has expressed to me his desire to try a relatively new restaurant, Craft 31, but-- due to reports of poor food quality and substandard service-- he has been hesitant to do so. Of course any new restaurant start-up is bound to have its share of problems and growing pains, but it appears that Craft 31 has solved these and is well on the way to becoming a "go to" restaurant in Williamsburg. On a whim, my wife and I decided to give it a try today while out and about. I am pleased to report my friend's concerns are unfounded on both accounts! The food quality was top shelf (outstanding oysters) and the service was world class. Britney, our server, was knowledgeable, bubbly enthusiastic, and willing to go the extra mile to see that our dinning experience would be memorable. As and example, I shared with her just how much I liked the house cucumber & champaign mignonette sauce that came with the oysters. Shortly there after, she returned with a small container for us to take along home with us. Small gesture perhaps, but one that went a long way to ensure that Craft 31 is on our "keeper" list and that we will most certainly return to in the very new future. I can say, without reservation (no pun intended), that I will recommend Craft 31 to anyone who might be interested. read more

I have been to Craft several times now and believe it is one of the best local resturants in town!! Bottoms up loaded pizza is the best pizza in town as I like thin crust and the barbecue brisket is awesome. All the items my family and I have had have been very good and the patio area is the best around town. The only suggestion I would add would be more options for white wine..overall, Job well done! Can't wait to go back and enjoy another fantastic meal! read more

The Opus 9 folks took over the old Cove and have worked miracles with it. Completely gutted the inside and redid it in style. (The seats at the bar tables could be a little more comfortable, however; seats AT the bar and in the dining room = good.) Even bigger changes were made to the food and service, both of which used to be pretty awful. And that is being generous. We been here 6 times since it opened and have yet to be disappointed with any aspect of any meal. The food is contemporary American, and these people get what that means. For what they're trying to do, they get 5 stars. The burgers are amazing (it's the beef blend, we asked) and splurge the extra $2 for the truffle parmesan fries. They will make you weep with happiness. As cliché as it sounds, the pizza is the best I have ever had. Crust is on the thin side, but not so thin that it can't hold up the incredible array of interesting toppings (love the 24-hour tomatoes, sweet and a little chewy, yum). Highly recommend the white sauce, super-flavorful. Even the little side salads are perfect and fresh. And they have Green Goddess dressing, a childhood fave. They also have tuna poke, which is a kind of Hawaiian sashimi, that is uber-fresh and great for low-carb diets. We're also fans of the Super Salad. If we had one suggestion, it would be to stop blanching whole kale leaves and use more tender fresh baby kale (raw) and slice/tear it up. Don't touch the rest of the salad ingredients - they're wonderful, including the honey-peach vinaigrette. Another low-carb winner, but they do need to fix the kale issue, it's just not appealing. Looking forward to trying the raw bar, which is all Virginia oysters. We've seen plates go by, and they look mighty nice. Next time. The beer selection rivals Dog Street. They even have some very nice hard ciders on tap. They rotate a lot of great beers in and out, so you can't get bored. Drew, one of the managers, addressed a couple of minor kitchen mishaps with aplomb and does a great job of managing the staff. The folks who work there are especially friendly (you can't train people to be nice, you have to hire nice people) and the service is stellar. We have had such nice experiences with Lisa, Ky, DJ and Brian - they have all been great. We are so, so happy this place is here and we'll do everything we can to support it and make sure we have a great neighborhood restaurant for many years to come. Thank you for opening Craft 31. We've been waiting a long, long time for this. read more

Food was ok but what really caught me off guard was no beer samples. I have been to countless restaurants and have never not been allowed to have a sample of the beer. I was really tempted to leave when I was told that but I reluctantly stayed. Will not visit again read more

As advertised by friends who have been here before: great beer selection ( try the Tangerine sampler!), phenomenal thin crust pizza (Greek), and really tasty bread stacks, crab and artichoke dip, and crispy fried chicken sandwich. Wait staff was also attentive. Highly recommend! read more

Went here for a girls night. Food was great but it took over an hour to get our food. They only saving grace was that the food was very good. There was no communication as to why our food was taking so long and we couldn't find our waitress to ask for most of our wait time. read more

Good food. Good wait staff. Long, long , long wait for food. That says it all. Went twice recently....same thing. Good food but kitchen is slow. REAL SLOW. read more

The food was underwhelming for the prices. We had burgers, pizza, patty melt, and two appetizers and the collective consensus was bland tasting food. Definitely didn't meet expectations. May have been an off night, but not sure the locals I was with will be back. Also it is extremely noisy; no way we could have held a conversation with a family gathering! read more

Meh. Our server was a nice guy but there seemed to be a disconnect between wait staff and kitchen. Also, they have a binary cooking option for the burgers, pink or no pink. But pink = out right raw with a braised outside. If in Williamsburg again, it would not be a 1st, 2nd or even 3rd option restaurant. read more

Wow! My husband and I went to Craft 31 while on a get-a-way weekend in Williamsburg. We will be back again and will definitely recommend this restaurant to all of our friends who visit Williamsburg. We had oysters for an appetizer that were salty and sweet and followed our meal with possibly the best burgers we have ever eaten. For a casual restaurant, the food was very high quality and inexpensive! We were embarrassed to admit that we wanted to lick the plate it was so good! Our server Chris was attentive and gave us great recommendations and excellent service. Can't wait to go back! read more

We came in on Sunday night with my parents for dinner. They come here fairly regularly. We were seated on the patio. Very lovely space with outdoor access making it feel comfortable on a summer night. Our server, peter, was enthusiastic to take our alcoholic beverage orders but was not quick to get them outside to us. He seemed to become overwhelmed quickly when he had a larger party of about 8 people also sit down outside. We ordered the crab dip appetizer. It was pretty tasty but a small portion for the price. Everyone got their own entrees, including the black and blue burger, fried chicken sandwich, taco pizza, and a salad with chicken. Everything was tasty as far as food and beer go, and my dad even got his growler filled with their espresso porter. Overall it was a good experience but could have been improved if we didn't have to wait 10-15 minutes between each empty beer before we were asked if we wanted another and then waited for it to be brought out to our table. Service is very important and for someone like myself who also is a server, I think noticing when someone's beers are empty and asking if they're ready for another as well as doing the simple things such as clearing dirty and empty dishes away (pre-bussing) between courses make a whole world of difference for the guests and their dining experience. read more

This place was great! Our family was on vacation and decided to give it a try based on the reviews. It was clean and had great decor, they seated us quickly without reservations(it was a Friday afternoon around 4:30). The mignonette choices for the oysters were delicious, the smoked wings were some of the best I've had, and the kids loved their food. The pizza was delicious as well. Our server was super nice and attentive. I wish they had a location back at home in northern Virginia, because I would be a regular. Very impressed!! read more

They just opened so it's really not too fair to review. Great atmosphere and the oysters are terrific!

We went for brunch. The crab cakes eggs Benedict was great and the Bloody Mary bar was very expansive

We went here for dinner one night in the very early spring. It was a nice atmosphere, but you could tell they were understaffed and still training a lot of people. The food was good, and sitting on the patio was nice. The inside seemed a little more fancy than what I like, but nice for the right person. My wife wished they had more options for seafood, but maybe that is coming in the summer months. read more

This place is decorated really well, but the food was disappointing. Our appetizer never came out and when our food showed up, we asked our waitress about it. She brought it out but still charged us for it. The burger patties were disappointing and overcooked. The caramel pretzel blonde desert wasn't worth ordering either. I may give it one more try since I'd really like to have a go-to burger spot in Williamsburg, but I have friends who have made similar comments about the place after eating there so I'm not too optimistic about future visits. read more

I had heard that Craft 31 was owned by Opus 9, so I expected good food, but we were disappointed. The server was cheerful, but she focused first on selling drinks, particularly their bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas. The steady stream of patrons to the bathroom, which was next to where we were seated, was evidence that the bottomless drinks were popular. Not interested in alcohol around noon on a Sunday, we simply asked for water, which was served warm. The food was overdone, both the hamburgers and the home chips. We ate the burgers, despite the dryness, but we couldn't eat the home chips, so a substitute was given reluctantly. As other reviewers indicate, the focus may be on the drinks and the bar, which others enjoy, so the place just isn't for us. read more

great bbq chicken pizza - nice selection of local craft; all but 5 were brewed in VA - impeccable service at the bar

Very well executed considering they just opened. I had a burger & my husband had the shrimp and grits. The burger was cooked perfectly. Nice sear on the outside and juicy inside. The New Bay chips were delicious. The shrimp & grits was very good. The only critique would be that they should serve it with peeled shrimp. It was a little messy trying to peel shrimp covered in sauce. All in all, we'll be back. Service was very friendly. read more
