The only thing I can think is that the cook is from New York! People in the south do not like for their grits to look like soup! I couldn't even believe they brought that to the table. They don't really solve the grits, and that's fine because there are a lot of senior citizens that dine here. But even a 90-year-old senior citizen in the south knows that grit are not supposed to look like soup. If you want to know how to cook grits, go to waffle House, and take a lesson!!! Precooked and lukewarm. On Sunday morning at 8:00 this Cracker Barrel was not at all crowded, yet everything that could be precooked was. The biscuits were so cold butter wouldn't even soften on them. Gravy, pancakes, bacon, ham ... all tepid to room temp. Bacon is no longer a choice on the Uncle Herschel breakfast. Great as always! Clare, the hostess who sat us, was so welcoming and sweet! Jonathan, our server, was super friendly and chatted with us throughout our visit. Food was AWFUL. Sausage tasted spoiled, bacon was raw, eggs were like liquid, hot chocolate was bitter. Ordered grits because I thought they came with the breakfast I ordered since there was no extra cost on the menu. Turns out it was $2 extra, which doesn't sound like a lot but they should at least tell you it costs extra! Coffee came out cold too. Service is nothing special, no one was rude so can't complain. Cracker Barrel is usually the old "trusty" place to go for decent service and good food. The Texarkana location is bad enough that it almost makes me want to say "We don't eat there anymore" The online order process absolutely stinks. The payment system is either down or the online orders don't make it through to be prepared. What is the purpose of ordering online for curbside pickup then going to the store and it hasn't even been started (because it wasn't ordered) The customer service for phone in orders is non-existent. It seems like the more people they can piss off on the phone the less busy they will be. This location needs a revamp and I tend to believe the staff perform according to the standard that is set by the manager. I don't know if this manager doesn't care, if they have no staff since so many 18 year olds decided they don't want to work anymore or ? Long story short: This location stinks. When we arrived, the restroom was out of order. They couldn't tell us when it would open back up. After walking across the parking lot to another restaurant we returned and they were already open again. Staff was in no hurry to seat customers although there was a plenty of room and staff. Service was OKAY with the attendant not asking to refill when came by, food was horrible and not what I ordered, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and I find it hard to not put bacon on a burger that has bacon in its name. I had a great dining experience! The server Celebrity was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and at a great price! I loved the decor of the place. The managers Rachael and Angel made the experience extra special by checking on me and making sure everything was going great. Service was sub-par; food was ok - biggest issue was we ordered a side of French toast. For $3.99 you would think you might get a regular size piece of bread. Not the case. I expressed dissatisfaction and the waitress did absolutely nothing. Certainly not a positive experience and in my opinion did not represent the Cracker Barrel brand at all. It took me a few days to sit down and wrap my mind around the worst customer service experience at Cracker Barrel in Texarkana, Texas; my hometown I might add. I am truly disturbed by the fact my Sister, EX Mother -in-Law and myself had to wait over two hours for breakfast that we had ordered at 11:15 AM and still at 01:15 PM did not have the breakfast that we ordered. I totally cannot blame our waiter Travon Stuart, I cannot blame Karen Bruno who tried to rectify the situation, but the fact that we only ordered pancakes eggs, bacon, fried apples and hash brown casserole and to have to wait almost 2 hours to receive three Grandma Specials that required nothing additional other than pecans in the pancakes. The n for me to get up and find Taylor ( waitress from Jersey or New York) to get it the managers Jaci Van Zant whom showed no empathy not even enough concern to try and help rectify the situation and we had to go to another manager or assistant Karen Bruno to at least get some food in my stomach after already have taken my medicine and my EX Mother -in -Law had already missed church waiting on a Grandma Special. I didn't get to eat anything. I don't understand this is completely not acceptable and Cracker Barrel in Texarkana Texas You have got to do better. Even after Karen Bruno remade the food it was still incorrect but instead of throwing it away we took it with back to Dallas Texas and gave it to some homeless people. Took 10 minutes to come take our order didn't even ask for our drink order. Got our drinks 10 minutes after ordering and then 20 minutes for our food to come out. Husband got chicken dumplings and half the biscuit was RAW dough. Then I ordered the hamburger steak and it was under cooked to where it was not safe to eat. I couldn't find our waitress so I asked someone else to correct mine and my husband didn't even bother getting his fixed because of how long it was going to take. We never got offered biscuits or rolls. The table next to us had to send their biscuits back due to them being dough. My husband never received a refill on his drink. They recently changed their menu which makes ordering easier for those who like to pick and choose. Hands down it's one of the most consistent breakfast spot in the country. I came here with my family for a nice meal. I got cold pancakes and eggs, decent sliced apples (or whatever they call the apple slices in the stuff they put in Apple Pie lol.) and this was after an hour long wait. I got a cheesecake pancake meal, so the fixings in the pancakes were good, but the pancakes themselves were cold. Now, normally I'd never wait an hour for food, but Cracker Barrel's atmosphere really saves it. It feels like a time capsule of southern hospitality and I absolutely love it. read more

Cracker Barrel was always a great "go to" when on the road but my last two experiences are changing that opinion. Taking a little trip and stopped at Texarkana for the night and we were excited to see a Cracker Barrel next door. Arrived around 9:00 and were seated right away. I ordered a hot latte and got a half filled cup of cool coffee. When I told my server he said "it comes out of a machine and doesn't get any warmer" and suggested I get a regular coffee if I want hot coffee. Why are you offering hot lattes when you can't serve them hot? I got the pancake breakfast and hubby got the French toast breakfast. Thank goodness the bacon was good (it gets both stars) because our eggs were room temperature at best. My pancakes were not even room temp and hubby's French toast was a bit warmer but tough. When we told our server he apologized and offered to get us something to go (eating pancakes on the road?) and said they were short staffed...really. As a paying customer a good restaurant may be short staffed but I should never notice. If you can't deliver quality then don't seat that many tables. read more

For those that follow me, food was good. The waitress was excellent. Seating was great even early morning 10 AM on a Saturday. Only wrinkle, they placed us directly next to the fireplace and the manager kept filling it with wood. It was about 90° where we were sitting. Even the waitress said that it was way too hot. Manager needs to be aware of who sitting next to the fireplace. First time ever I came in and had a basket of biscuits with gravy served to us like you would get chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. It was awesome. read more

On our way to Arkansas, stopped here for lunch with a toddler in tow. We got there at 11 a.m., before the church crowd got there. FOOD: The usual Cracker Barrel Farr, the grilled chicken salad was very good, as were the mashed potatoes (toddler fare). This was my first time to try the chicken and dumplings, oh my! The chicken (which were the tenders) were moist and flavorful & the baby loved the sauce. What really spoiled the dish were the dumplings. They were liked parboiled slabs of dough. No seasoning, parsley or herbs whatsoever. Will not order again. ATMOSPHERE: Average atmosphere--all clean & organized. They had some new selections from the store & we managed to buy a few things. SERVICE: Our waitress was Mahogany & she was GREAT, very sweet & started off with her name, which I always appreciate. The main issues were they ran out of high chairs & super slow service for everyone--despite plenty of staff there. Unfortunately this outing began positive thanks to the awesome country store, but it quickly went sour after our names were called to be seated. The hostess escorted us to our unprepared table and we all stood together waiting for someone to come and bus it. We came on Mother's Day, so I'll give them that. They were busy. Our waitress was Amanda and she didn't seem happy to be there at all. She didn't write down our full order and disregarded some of our preferences, and therefore forgot many things that we ordered. There was a hair in my chicken and dumplings once it arrived, so I had to send it back. We asked for rolls and were brought rolls and corn muffins. Eh, nice gesture, but it was such a waste. We only wanted rolls. My water tasted gross, and my overflowing hot chocolate that spilled on the table as the waitress set it down, lacked the chocolatey taste that it should have. I had to request a saucer for my hot chocolate. It should have come with one any way. The guy sitting at the table next to us seemed upset about his order as well. They've got issues here folks, and based on all of the negative reviews, management clearly needs to do something about this location. I like Cracker Barrel, but not this one.
