I believe I lost my magnetism toward Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel is always just Cracker Barrel if you've been to one or a dozen and one it is completely the same Country Store and somewhat southern flavored country meals. We came for breakfast the better-half lives their pecan pancakes the special added two over medium eggsand bacon! I got the old timers breakfast with 2 over medium eggs sausage patties hasbrown casserole and biscuits and sausage! The sausage patties are similar to Jimmy Dean and are probably premade and heated with your order and are a bit rubbery! I do get they are efficient and things do come off a line! It's great to have the "old" Cracker Barrel back! The atmosphere is always warm, inviting, and interesting to look at all the antique decor as we wait for our food. It also assists with stretching conversations without the use of phones. The grilled chicken tenders are so delicious and tender. I'm not sure what the marinade is, but it is an absolute favorite of mine. The sweet carrots and fried okra are the best around. The food is always work the half hour drive! The turkey and dressing dinner was perfectly complimented by the broccoli. Food is always served promptly and with courtesy. No trip to Cracker Barrel is complete without a stroll through the store where we always walk away with a perfect gift for a loved one, a cozy candle, or fun toy. read more

We drove by on our way back and stopped to get lunch in this area. They said the wait was about 20 minutes but ended up being a little less. There's a cute gift shop area in the front with a lot of cute trinkets from snow globes to lip balm and candy bars. There are a few candy sticks for 35 cents, I tried the lemon one and you can't really beat it for that price. Makes you feel like a kid again. There's tiny toys and clothes too. You can easily spend half an hour there. There are rocking chairs in the front too, if the weather wasn't so cold, I might actually have sat there! My first time having Cracker Barrel and it felt like a mix of Wendy's and Popeyes, chicken less crispy (in a good way) and baked potato more topped than just sour cream and chives. There was bacon, yet no additional fees!! I had cinnamon apples on the side and it was so good. Soft and the dipping cinnamon spread was delicious. Made me forget how much I liked cinnamon apples. My fiance had the salad as the side, I can't remember if it was additional fees but it was huge!! There would've been no way I would've finished my meal if I ordered it. Hadn't been to a CB in quite a while, certainly not since the stupid logo kerfuffle... I had The Old Timer and my companion had the meatloaf. Meh... While my eggs were perfectly cooked, and the biscuits were good, nothing else was. The sausage patties on my plate could kill, either by ingesting or hitting someone. (To their credit, they did replace them.) The Hashbrown Casserole likewise had been sitting around a while and grown whiskers. To add insult, the coffee was lukewarm. My companions meatloaf and mashed potatoes were "forgettable". The service was excellent and the roaring fire enhanced what's left of my summer tan... And, they still sell CheerWine, Frosty Root Beer, Dots, and all the candies we grew up on... Sadly it looks like CB is fading. read more

A relic from childhood, Cracker Barrel still serves up old country cookin' to weary travelers, conjuring memories of summer road trips and naps in the back seat. My only real sadness stems from the fact that a closer location doesn't yet exist. I would certainly high tail it over to the Barrel if it weren't a 40 minute drive each way. Allow me to pose a question to my fellow Barrel visitors - do you prefer peruse the shop before or after dining? Or do you tend to skip the shop entirely, unless forced by a lengthy wait? Man, this *does* sound like AI. This one for sure is going to sound the alarm. I seem to recall my allocated shop time to be that brief window between finishing the meal and waiting for Dad to settle the bill at the counter. There are two facets that stick out to me - the candy sticks, and the metal brain-teaser puzzles. First, the candy sticks. 25 years ago, I was but a child and a candy stick went for a dime. I'd buy 10 for a dollar and be set for a few days in the car during arduous voyages from Reading to Arizona. My favorite flavors were lemon, orange, and root beer. Seeing all the candy sticks lined up in their mason jars transported me back to my youth. These nostalgic morsels, like everything else, have not been immune to inflation. Your dollar now has half the candy stick buying power, and a Washington will only net you five in 2023. It just occurred to me these candy sticks are just candy canes without the hook part. I think you actually get less candy since the canes need to be longer to compensate for the bendy part. Oh how devious! If you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. This chain is known for its cookie cutter replication, down to the "antiques" that adorn the dining room walls. Some other signatures of a Cracker Barrel dining room are the high ceilings, three distinct sections separated by picketed, cross-shaped wooden walls, and of course the giant checkers set situated in front of a grand fireplace between two sets of doors that lead into the kitchen. Like the decor, the menu stays uniform through the years, with classic country standbys such as meatloaf, chicken fried chicken, and chicken n' dumplins. In recent years, however, I must say Cracker Barrel has been open to experimenting more with menu offerings, serving up seasonal variations of dishes for a limited time. Though I do appreciate the effort to stay fresh and avoid stagnation, Cracker Barrel has kind of earned the right to rest on its laurels. The shop combined with the dining room that reminds you of the old family living room (minus the 50-foot ceiling) is enough to enchant the hearts of another generation of young travelers. read more

I typically like the Grilled Chicken Tenders dinner. However, this time, something seemed off. The chicken seemed closer to blackened than I was used to. It was NOT dry, but it was moist in an odd sort of way. I cut one piece open and it looked OK, but then again, I'm not Chef Ramsey. But right when I was pulling out of the parking lot, I felt something bubbling up so I went right to the Wawa across 61 and had an urgent "diarrhetic event". Had another one within the space of an hour. Hadn't eaten anything for hours before I went to that restaurant. Expressed this concern directly to Cracker Barrel Guest Relations via their website. What I got back was nothing more than a general template response which could be easily used for any number of customer concerns. No real caring on their part was evident. For the most part they all look the same which is just fine. This is the shop before you get into the restaurant. Plenty of trinkets and snacks and souvenirs and such. Most are unique items. Good way to spend time in case there's a wait for a table which can happen on weekends. Also a good place to stop after the meal as well. Grab some stuff on the way out. This time we tried lunch - Had the fried White fish with a loaded potato and fried okra/ fish crispy and tasty Along with the okra -loaded potato a no no! Along with this I ordered the sampler- fried chicken- good ( crispy and good spices ) Chicken with dumplings was more like a lot of wide , gelatinous egg and flour mixture With gravy and minimal shreds of chicken ! Along this was a thick slab of overcooked, burnt on the top meatloaf- uneatable-a few bite and I needed a barf bag! I used to love stopping here with my daughter when she was little. The gift shop with unique items plus the peg game on the table made this a kid friendly experience. Was here this morning. Here are the issues: Asked for sugar for coffee when ordered drinks. That took 3 requests to get. Ordered eggs over easy and you can see in the bowl what I received. Wife ordered lemon water. That took 3 requests to get the lemon. We watched the server write it down when ordered. Friend ordered bacon crispy. Did not come out that way. Had to request it a 2nd time. Other friend's meal came with fruit. Had to request a 2nd time after the meal came. She also ordered eggs over medium and got over easy. Once I showed the server my "over easy egg" and repeated all of the issues she got the manager. He was completely rude! Showed him the center of my egg and he said he wanted to see the whole egg. The entire hard yolk was in the bowl! Told him all the other issues and he kept saying he couldn't hear me, from the other end of the table. So I got up, walked over and told him to his face. I also told him the table next to us got their food well before us and even though they got there well after us (even the server apologized when she brought it out). The manages rudely asked if he was supposed to hold their food until ours came out. The "manager" tried blaming me for their incompetence!! To avoid physical contact I sat back down. I had the steak and shrimp , which was pretty tough , tasty though , one of my sons had a burger , my wife had hot honey chicken , and my two other sons had Mac and cheese. 3 of us who had meat got sick. I do enjoy Cracker Barrel but today was the exception. I wanted something simple so I ordered the hashbrown casserole with two eggs OM on top. The casserole was rubber and cold. First time ever. We stopped by after a day trip to PA from NY. One of the best fried chicken we've had in awhile! There was about a 40 min wait but we had time and we didn't make a reservation prior so understood if others took priority. Service was great overall (our server was really sweet and helped cater to our 1.5 yr old) - missing 1 star since I felt we were being rushed out and we weren't done eating yet. If you ever see a sign for a Cracker Barrel while on the road you must stop detour and get some. I'm telling you with a glass of sweet tea, mashed potatoes and string beans. Yesssssss! So good!!! Very slow service in one of our favorite places. The food was good not great as past times. My wife in I live 15 mins away, we always have a twice a month family get together with all my grandchildren and daughters. Unfortunately Cracker Barrel hasn't come back from COVID and many of the staff members they hire have little experience or just don't want to work at these restaurants.
