Only the second time I've been to a Cracker Barrel and the first for dinner...I was pleasantly surprised! Service was quick and attentive (it was pretty empty on a Tuesday night). Portions were HUGE. I got the country fried pork chops (Tuesday special) and it did not disappoint. Very tender and moist well seasoned. Extra gravy on the side was yummy. Onion petals were a nonevent but worth a try. Came here with my wife to partake in Cracker Barrel's Veteran's Day complimentary Sunrise Pancake Special. We knew it was going to be a long wait, but Cracker Barrel allows you to join a virtual wait list... so a win in that department, just be sure you check in with the hostess stand when you arrive. We enjoyed our breakfast and when we received our check we paid using our phone. Doing so saved us from having to wait in the long cashier line. Definitely should take advantage of this opportunity whenever the line is long. Overall a pleasurable experience despite the long wait and crowded restaurant. The eggs were scramble and cheesy and the hashbrown casserole was so creamy and scrumptious. I ordered my steak medium well but they brought me a well done dry steak. Hence the 4 starts only. They also ran out of biscuits so it was a bit of a way before they rolled out. We were done with our meal by the time they made an appearance on our plate. The host was a bit grumpy. That was ok. The waitress mad up for that with her joyful and caring disposition. The food is exactly what you would expect from this comfort food meca. It was filling and the portions were substantial. The chicken was a bit to salty for my taste but that not to say that someone wouldn't enjoy it. The cat fish was more to my liking. It had good flavor and the batter was crisp not soggy. Mac and cheese, mash potato's were standard fare both good but nothing extra to say about them. I finally went to a Cracker Barrel and it was delicious! I've just never been close to one in California and even though I now live close by to the Westside one, I just never thought to go. I was also invited to the soft opening for the Black Bear diner and wanted to compare. However, I was stuck in Austin so I can only review the Cracker Barrel. I was given an opportunity to go to the soft opening on the Eastside and so I invited my friends... And can you believe they turned me down because they said it was for old people?? Well that made me really nervous but I wanted to go anyway and form my own opinion. I'm glad that I went because I did not realize that there was a store with all these amazing goods and gifts as well as really good food. So for this soft opening, we were able to order one shared appetizer, one drink (non alcoholic), one entree, and one shared dessert. I had a reservation for 4 people but only one showed up. The menu was actually really extensive and there were several meals that were really good value, I can see where the "old people" comment came from since seniors are usually on tight budgets, but honestly, nowadays, aren't we all? The service was nice and attentive as they had trainers from all parts of the country fly in to help. My server was very sweet and actually gave me a little extra drink because I wanted coffee and I wanted a sweet tea. The registers weren't operational yet, so we couldn't really order anything else even if we wanted to pay for it. For my appetizer I got the beignets and they're really good, especially with that maple syrup dipping sauce. I also wanted to try the fried pickles but I can only get one. The serving size looked really small, but as you ate you realize that it was a lot of food, since it's basically fried dough. For my main entree I got the Chicken fried steak and my friend got the meatloaf. Wow. That meatloaf was a revelation, I didn't realize that meat could taste so airy and light. I mean the damn thing jiggled! They said it's because they include a lot of vegetables and bread crumbs and eggs, so it's not just a thick hamburger like loaf. Chicken fried steak was really good; not too greasy. Even the gravy was good with different ones on the chicken fried steak, which was white and peppery and the brown gravy on the mashed potatoes was rich and more savoury. I didn't get to try dessert because I was out of there but I was told that the Coca-Cola chocolate cake was amazing. I really want to go back and just explore the menu, this location was really big and parking was a cinch. So my wife and I have frequented this restaurant before and the first time we went out had just opened So I didn't think to much about the slow wait time but this time one would think service would be better. We arrived at about 12:30 for lunch, and it wasn't crazy packed as we were seated, and there were empty tables all around. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time, and it took about 10-15 minutes for half our drink order to be served and another 10 minutes for our water. Then I kid you not it took about 20 minutes for our order to show up and we had ordered an appetizer but it came with our meals. Needless to say, the cheese curls were cold, so we took them home as treats for our pups. My wife ordered the roast beef, and she said it was ehhh but she liked her sides. I ordered the Chicken Fried Turkey, which actually was good, but hardly had any gravy on it, and they forgot to bring my cranberry with it. The loaded Hashbrown casserole was Luke warm at best, and the only good thing was the apples. It took forever to get drink refills. We came to Cracker Barrel Thursday evening thinking it wouldn't be too busy. It took a bit to be seated about 5 min. When we first met our waiter, music was too loud to really hear each other. Drinks came but no straws, after 2 requests we got straws. Order was taken, server even confirmed the order before leaving. When the order was delivered it was totally wrong. It was corrected. But I would think before bringing food out the order is verified. No drink refills happened more so towards the end of the meal. The saddest part was no biscuits or cornbread ever came to the table. At the store the clerk there was sweet and attentive, Priscilla I believe was her name. She was very friendly and took care of very well. Wife and I had breakfast a few weeks back and it was really good. Today we went back and while she liked her french toast breakfast I was thoroughly disappointed with my breakfast. The stale hard pancakes were sent back and a second order of stale hard pancakes were served. The sausage patties were some of the worst I've had and the service was very poor. This was my first time at Cracker Barrel and it was a pretty bad experience. Our waitress first told us that it was her first time ever on the job with Cracker Barrel job so we have to bare with her. She was not experienced much at attentiveness or remembering our orders even with a tablet. Additionally, the food I ordered was the chicken and dumplings and it came to the table very very cold. When I addressed my concern the server took my plate and brought me the same meal but from what it seemed like was that it was microwaved. It was not her fault but the chicken and dumplings was not good AT ALL... there was no flavor what so ever to the chicken and dumplings. My meal was meant to come with either a biscuit or corn bread... well she forgot and I just had to settle for a biscuit. It was kind of sad that we also had to keep flagging someone for drink refills. Once it was time to pay.... The server brings you a paper copy of your bill to pay at the register where everyone purchases merchandise at the Cracker Barrel store. The line is so long so you have to wait in line with other customers buying merchandise versus just having to pay at the table. This was by far the most unorganized method of paying for your food. Sadly this restaurant has just gone down. We used to frequent. Last TWO times the food was cold. We sent it back this time and believe it or not it came back COLD! We asked for napkins and the waitress never brought them. I spoke with the manager. He said "I will talk to the staff, what can i do?" So needless to say if managers don't take pride in their service how do you expect their staff to care. I guess a table of 4 provides a better tip than a Single person. This newly opened Cracker Barrel is erratic, at best. Waiters take orders, place the orders, and orders get delivered to other tables. I had that happen with the appetizers I had ordered for my meal, since I wasn't feeling the heavy food. Out of the party of 10, they brought food for 7 and we had to wait. Finally, one more meal arrived and my friend and I are still waiting. They had to re-do my order because another waiter delivered it to another table as appetizer, so more waiting. My friend ordered the meatloaf, same as our 3rd friend. Our 3rd friend got hers. We had 3 people made aware of the delay of the meatloaf dinner, only for them to disappear and never be seen again. When it was finally delivered, the waitress wanted those of us closer to the food destination to basically take the plate from her and put it on the table. Pathetic training. Why are they not told that bringing food and wanting to pass the plate over diners' heads is unacceptable? The fried pickles and cheddar bites were good. The meatloaf was tasteless. The cornbread was dry and they were out of biscuits. How is a "country" restaurant out of biscuits? Are they using canned ones and they ran out of cans? So disappointed. Wife and I were looking forward to having a Home Town Cracker Barrel but what a disappointment. As with other restaurants Cracker Barrel has lost its luster over the years. Some things never change, we waited well over an hour before being called for the dining room. Naturally during the down time we spent more money than we wanted to in the gift shop. Gift Shop: I selected one item and asked the sales lady if they had additional items and were they in the box. Several minutes later two sales ladies returned informing me that was the the only one left and no discount was available. Next item I selected was a wind chime. I asked if that was available in the box and the sales lady poked around under the table and responded with no, this is the last one. I told her I would take it. She walked off. The Training Lady turned to me asking if I would like to have it taken to the front desk for payment later. I agreed. My wife picked up our items a short time later, paid and placed them in the car. To my surprise when we got home the wind chime was in a box. My wife said the cashier stated they had plenty. Conclusion, the sales staff are not up to date on inventory and how to properly assist customers. Rather than standing and watching customers, interacting and showing interest would generate a lot more sales. Do not walk away from an interested customer. Additional sales training is needed. Dining Room: Finally seated in the dining room and had a nice young waitress prepared to take our order. Before taking our order I asked if she could lower the blind that allowed the sun to shine in my wife's face. She said sure, no problem. She disappears, comes back and says it's broke. I stated that my wife can not eat with the sun shining in her face and could we move to another table. She says sure. I point to two other tables open in our area. She approaches the head waitress, comes back and tells us that those tables are already assigned to other families. But they can tape some menus on the windows to block the sun. LOL. I then informed her that we would go back out and request another table. We went back out to the lady that calls your name, informed her of the situation and it was like everyone went into panic mode. The head waitress from inside came out by the cashiers and was hand signaling the lady I was speaking to which appeared more interested in watching her than listening to me. I informed her that we would like another table or the blind to be lowered. How can you have a new restaurant and the blinds be broken. I did notice that more than one blind was less than fully closed. It appears low bidder got that piece of the contract. So we are waiting for a new table and more names are being called and entering the dining room completely bypassing us. I find one of the Training Ladies and tell her the story. She heads to the Call Lady, then to the dining room and disappears never to be seen again. I think she was teaching Evasive Action 101. While waiting a family of 4 was shown a table and they rejected it as well (reason unknown). So now you have 6 of us waiting for reseating. We waited for approximately 30 minutes for a table and during this time: a. Not one person explained what was going on. b. We were not offered a complementary drink. c. Not one person offered any form of apology. d. Not one person offered a time estimate of how long we would have to wait. Needless to say by this time our excitement of having our very own El Paso Cracker Barrel had fizzled out so we informed the lady we were leaving. No apology from her. I wish Cracker Barrel well but their best practice is probably staying along expressways where first time diners may end up being last time diners. read more

We came on a Sunday there was over an hour wait, the food is sub par the corn muffins tasted like they had been sitting out for three days (hard as a rock) I had the meatloaf which was fine (you can't really mess up meatloaf) they asked if I wanted brown or where gravy I asked for both on the side (so glad I did that), both of the gravy tasted bad. The reason for this complaint is bad service and terrible food. We went on a Monday night about 7 pm, not busy at all and still failed. It's something that I am NOT accustomed to having at the Cracker Barrel. I have been to many CB franchises nationwide and this visit was the absolute worst I have had. It began from the moment we sat down. Our server Monserrat seemed unhappy to even be there. We tried to be forgiving with the attitude she gave but instead we became the forgotten. After we ordered our drinks and food she never came back to our table until we asked the people who brought the food out the whereabouts of our server and asked for them to find her. She straight disappeared from the restaurant, even the people behind us where saying, where is this girl? When she came to our table she said, " Ahh Yes!" As if we were bothering her. We proceeded to ask her for refills, napkins, 2 more sets of silverware, Tabasco, ketchup, and the extra egg I ordered that was not brought out. (We had to get in everything we needed before she vanished again). She came back 3 times with all the items except my egg. When she finally brought it out I was almost done with the rest of my food. Everyone's food at my table was cold as it were brought straight from the refrigerator. When we asked the server for a manager, he came to our table sloppy and with no name tag. When we told him of our terrible experience he said that he was sorry and we needed to understand the place was new and still needed to "get the kinks out of it". What the in the hell? He asked how he wanted us to handle the situation offering nothing. No backbone on the man what so ever, let's be honest you tell me what can be done I'm not the manager you are. Absolutely terrible. To top everything off, $74 bill for for people will no kind of help from Mr. Manager with no name tag. My advice is to stay away from this place, I recommend that you go somewhere else and you won't regret it. What was supposed to be a 20 minute wait turned out to be a 40 minute wait. My wife and I had our two grandsons with us. We ordered their food first as soon as the waitress first took our drink order. They had pancakes and bacon. When she brought our drinks my wife and I then ordered our food. After outside we talked to the first hostess and she told us it was going to be a 25 minute wait.
