If you are ever curious what this place is all about. Well, let me describe it simplest way. Another a higher level from Denny's. They serve classic American-style food and breakfast. The cool stuff about this place is the decor also they have a gift shop before you enter the dining room. Friendly staff but I find their food can be heavy on salt. My opinion. But a must-visit

My husband and I visited Cracker Barrel in Downingtown, PA. We visit the restaurant quite often. The last two visits were not enjoyable; the quality of the food has changed. Our visit on Tuesday, 11/5/2024 (Election Day) was HORRIBLE!! Although a full table of managers were facing us at the hostess desk, none of them made an effort to have us seated. We stood there for approximately 5 mins (I only remained because my husband was hungry). I do not think a total of 8 tables were occupied. When the host "finally" showed up, he escorted us to the last section, in the corner, near the exit door. Our server, Jasmin, stood in the kitchen and TALKED to a coworker while taking her time to greet us. Her greeting was POOR, as evident by the slop she brought to our table. My order was completely WRONG. The potatoes were cold and lumpy. My husband's sweet potato looked like something they found in the trash. Yasmin placed this huge marshmallow on top of my husband's sweet potato like a hat. Her response was, "some people do not like it mashed". At this point, I had enough of the disrespect and bordering, "we do not like your type here". I left the slop on the table and spoke to the manager, Jessica Meyers. By her body language, she could care less about the situation. That will be my final visit at that establishment. Word of advice, people of a certain "type"...... pay attention.

Stopped in for a "Breakfast for Dinner" night. 1/2 the sausage was raw and it tasted off. Asked for bacon instead as there was def. Something wrong with the 2 pieces of cooked sausage. They replaced the one order with bacon that was soggy, we were expected to eat the off tasting sausage (no thanks I don't need food poisoning from bad pork). And not sure it was actually pork I think it was impossible sausage. Anyway not a good experience. Won't be back here. Used to love Cracker Barrel but it has gone waaay down hill.

Meatloaf and Mac and cheese to go

We ordered curbside pickup and were horrified. One of our side items was totally missing from the order. we ordered the loaded sweet potato and it was disgusting. It had roots growing out of it and was dirty. Apparently no one even looked at it before giving it to us. And it was NOT loaded. On a previous curbside order we got the 'extra meal' of meatloaf and Mac and cheese, and it literally looked like they scraped leftovers off someone's plate to give to us. Meatloaf was chopped up and Mac and cheese looked half eaten. Awful. Won't ever be ordering curbside again.

It is pretty dirty at this location. The floor, the chairs and the table look like they haven't been cleaned.

Ambiance was nice enough and the music playing was a fantastic mix of classic rock. We both started with soup. My husband with the gumbo with cornbread and me with a daily special mushroom and brisket soup. Both were wonderful. The cornbread is off the hook and the gumbo was so flavorful with a really nice kick. Entrees were the pistachio crusted chicken for my husband. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside with crabmeat on top, served with garlicky mashed potatoes and some veggies. I had the shrimp and grits which is a go to item for me and they out did themselves. Shrimp was perfectly cooked and the grits were delicious with Tasso ham; just the right bite with some spice. Service was pleasant if a little slow but the food and music more than made up for it. Overall a great experience. We will definitely be back!!

The hostess was kind and she took the order, read it back and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. My husband ran to grab it, said it was quite still but the food was ready when he got there, that's where the good of the experience ends. My husband ordered a burger and fries, but the burger only had the bottom half of the bun. I ordered the south by south west chicken on a salad. The chicken was pure rubber and he single worst textured chicken I had ever had. I've had this dish here before and it has been excellent so this was a real letdown. They also didn't include the toppings for the south by south west is it was just a chicken breast on a salad. We also ordered a side of fries for our kids which we just absent from the order. Checking the receipt all the ordered items were detailed correctly so it seems the kitchen has lost some of its attention to detail. It's very unlikely we will visit this establishment again unfortunately.

The kind of welcome that reminds you hospitality is still an art. The ambiance is chic, upscale, and intentional without ever feeling stiff. It is not too loud, allowing laughter and conversations to breathe naturally. They thoughtfully left space for guests without reservations, which shows they value people, not just bookings. Everyone was dressed beautifully, and the staff matched that same elevated professionalism. Clean. Polished. Intentional. Our server, Ashley, was exceptional. Knowledgeable. Present. Confident. She didn't just take orders. She guided an experience. The space is wheelchair accessible, and the outdoor courtyard is stunning. Photo worthy. Elegant. It instantly transported me to New Orleans. The aesthetic, the warmth, the spirit. It felt like Mama nem's table on a Sunday after church. Cousins laughing. Plates heavy. Love flowing. Culture present in every detail. Even the private event space is breathtaking. Weddings. Baby showers. Political donor events. Receptions. Community celebrations. I saw vision the moment I looked inside. And now... let's talk about the food. I had the smoked jerk turkey wings, slow cooked to perfection and served with Creole beans and rice and collard greens with smoked turkey. Let me be clear. This was not just food. This was memory. The seasoning was deep, layered, and soulful. The meat was tender, falling off the bone with ease. I fought the urge to bite the bones themselves just to stay in that moment a little longer. The mac and cheese deserves its own standing ovation. Made with a blend of four cheeses and baked into a rich, creamy cheese joy with perfection, it was rich, indulgent, and comforting in every bite. This is not a side. This is an experience. The freshly baked skillet cornbread, served with Steen's cane syrup and honey butter, was warm, soft, and balanced between sweet and savory. It was the kind of cornbread you slow down for. The kind you remember. My Nina mocktail was refreshing, sweet, and layered. Every sip revealed something new. A drink meant to be savored, not rushed. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, drizzled with hot honey and served alongside collards with smoked turkey and sweet potato gratin. I stole a wing, of course. Moist. Flavorful. Perfectly crisp. The kind of bite that makes you close your eyes and say "mmmm" without realizing it. This is not just a restaurant. It is culture. It is comfort. It is community. Meeting the general manager felt like reconnecting with family you didn't know you missed. From the first hello at the door to the final goodbye, I felt seen, welcomed, and valued. Even the bathrooms and hallways are selfie worthy. Every detail is intentional. This is where you bring your spouse. Your girls. Your sorors. Your frat brothers. Your business partners. Your family. Your whole community. We drove six hours to experience South Jazz Kitchen, and I would do it again next week without hesitation. I am sending everyone I know.
