The Grandma's Sampler with Scrambled Eggs and Hash Brown Casserole was pretty good The service was nice too. The ambiance was so good and nice inside the restaurant.

My go to place. Food is always great & the service is always good. Best restaurant in anderson

I can't exactly remember what this breakfast skillet is called, except that it was a huge disappointment.

I am a champion for local businesses but I still patronize chain restaurants from time to time. Cracker Barrel used to be my go to for a good, hearty, and tasty breakfast. I am sad to say it has really gone downhill in recent years. Cracker Barrel used to serve bacon that was on a completely different level from anyone else. It was thick and delicious. Then one day it changed and that is when the downhill slide started. Portions started getting smaller, the service a bit slower, and the store less welcoming. Recently I had a weekend to myself and didn't feel like cooking, so I decided I would go to Cracker Barrel. It was slow when I arrived and it wasn't too long before I was sat at a table. I did have to wait longer for my server than I expected with as few customers as the restaurant had, but I was eventually seen by a server. She was a very nice, friendly, and helpful person. I gave her my drink order while I perused the menu. Looking at the menu is just habit since I always order the same thing at Cracker Barrel. I get the Sunrise Sampler. The only choice I have to make is eggs over medium because you get a sampling of all of the other sides. You can imagine my surprise when I saw that menu had been changed. There are 75% less choices than in the past. Most disturbing of all was the Sunrise Sampler was missing from the menu. I asked my server about the menu change and she gave the feeling of being just as disappointed as I was. She said many of her other customers were upset as well. I asked about a skillet looking creation I saw in the menu and was told it was good but because of a supplier issue, hash brown casserole wasn't available. Hash brown casserole is the base of the skillet so things weren't looking up. My server said she would ask the kitchen what could be done and when she returned, I was told they could make it with regular hash browns. So I ended up ordering that. It looked interesting when it came out but it was a huge disappointment when I dug in. It was very bland. The only thing with any flavor were the fried onions that were piled on top. Even if hash brown casserole were available, it wouldn't have saved this dish. As my server brought my check, she told me that was I was the only one to get the skillet made with regular hash browns and that they were removing it from the menu for the time being. Apparently some unwritten rule was broken and the powers that be at Cracker Barrel were upset. It is unfortunate because I really used to like Cracker Barrel. The staff is still friendly and treat you like family. It is the corporate side that has changed. If you are looking for a good breakfast on the Southside of Anderson close to the interstate I would recommend avoiding Cracker Barrel and visiting one of the other places in the area, or if you don't mind driving a little bit further, there are two really good, locally owned diners just a couple of miles from Cracker Barrel.

When I tried order off the menu to see if I could get a trout and steak combo, my server tried very hard to make this happen, but gave up. She could have asked a manager, but it was not important enough for me to pursue the matter. But, she was very sweet and was very helprul the rest of the time. Pittsburgh Rare steak preparation involves charring the exterior on a very hot flat-top and serving it rare. What I got was not this, as I could immediately tell by the fact that it had noticeable grill marks. They just cooked as usual for a rare order. With a NY Strip steak, you expect some connective tissue, but not this much. It was hidden also in the muscle of the steak. I had trouble hiding all the half chewed offal on my plate. Neither did it have a great beef flavor. This summary from the internet agrees with my idea of rice pilaf, "Pilaf is a rice dish where grains are toasted in oil or butter with aromatics like onion and garlic before being simmered in seasoned broth, resulting in fluffy, separate grains." What I was served was nothing like this as I got buttered rice that clumped together. No effort was employed in plating for appearance. I got a steak on a plate and a silver colored boat on which the rice was piled. The Cole slaw served as a salad was very good. The beer was cold and as expected.

Indeed, the tiny restaurant on Main Street in Markleville (population 484) is filled most evenings and weekend lunch with guests anxious for the hand breaded sandwiches, hand cut fries, burgers, wings and more. The owner, Doug, began restoring the historic building in 2019. Now he is working to add dining space upstairs for another 15 tables to help accommodate the demand. I was steered to the restaurant by a fellow Yelper from Virginia. I did not hesitate to make the 90 mile round trip drive for lunch. The dining room is small with a couple cloth covered tables and a bar seating. Soft country music fills the room and a gorilla hangs from the ceiling. The tenderloin is incredibly tender, fresh, juicy and hot with a perfectly seasoned breading. I ordered the regular size tenderloin, Doug also serves a larger version that is about a pound of meat. And don't skip the fries - hand cut and crisp. The fries are 5 star too. The service is impeccable, the kind of small town service that makes you feel special. We loved hearing Doug's story. There is street parking on the side of the building. They do a robust carry-out business, as well. They are not currently serving alcohol. They are not opened mid week for lunch- check the hours. It's worth the drive, even from out of state. So good!

I understand some bartenders don't know as much as others but tonight I went into the local bar I live near and was quite dissatisfied when I asked for the lightest drink possible and they handed me a sex on the beach (I've never had one) and unfortunately trusted the bartender. Two sips after my drink I got really sick and threw up and I've always been the type to order strong drinks with no problem but when I got sick and left to the ladies room the bartender proceeded to go up to my friend and say "I just wanted to let you know when they asked for the weakest drink and they don't specify that no bartender would refund the drink" even after I didn't drink it and honestly this is a decent bar so please do better.
