Fantastic southern style fried chicken with turnip greens splashed with Tabasco pepper vinegar!
Andy M.

One of my all-time favorite chains, we had another great visit today at a Cracker Barrel, this time in Madison, WI. Our server, Tamika, was fantastic. She was funny, kind, and attentive. The place is bustling with very hard-working staff, and she really made our experience great. As for the food, we had the fried pickles, and they were amazing. TIP: Watch out, because they're very hot when they come out of the fryer. I had the fried chicken dinner with a baked potato and turnip greens. Phenomenal! TIP2: if you like a little spice, order the turnip greens with the pepper vinegar. Amazing!

Ashliee took good care of us! Ordered the Daily Special - Turkey with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes casserole, dressing and gravy with a side of turnip greens (could have skipped). This comfort food was delicious; you can always count on Cracker Barrel to deliver! Of course, shopping their large gift store is always a treat.

I've eaten at a few Cracker Barrel's in a few different states.. but it's been awhile. It's never really been a fantastic experience but this location changed that for me. It's charming country decor with that memorable retail store when you first walk in. We're traveling in our van and it's widely known that Crack Barrels will usually let you stay overnight in the parking lot. We asked the manager upon arriving and he was super nice and said that we could most definitely stay the night. We got a table and ordered some dinner. Grilled chicken tenders with veggies. The food came out hot and in a timely manner and tasted great. Our service experience was amazing from the hostess to our server to the manager coming by and checking on us. Service 5 stars Food 5 stars Experience 5 stars Will we be back.. absolutely

Been awhile since I've been to one of these and d this location didn't disappoint! Service and foods were Spot on! Trout was perfectly seasoned and ohhh the Mac n cheese hit the spot!

This is a mess with 2 sausages and a few strawberries. No cream or powdered sugar.

I was so excited to try the new Strawberry French Toast bake. Below is a picture of what I got when I got my order home.

The service was amazing! The food was really bad. We hadn't been to a Cracker Barrel in over 20 yrs and decided to try it again. It was really without flavor in the gravy, the hash browns were cold when brought out. My husband's ham was all fat! I ordered the Grandpas Country Fried Breakfast and only ate some of the chicken ( it was so dry) and the apples. It was supposed to also come with biscuits and gravy which the waitress forgot to bring out. I told her I didn't need it anyway and it was okay. If it wasn't for the friendly service we would have paid and just walked out.

Came in for the first time over the weekend a bit later in the day however even then it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away and got lucky to sit by the fireplace. The whole restaurant was super cozy, very country and I absolutely loved it. My son loved all the decor and was mesmerized. The portions for the food was just perfect! Not too much and not too little. The casseroles were both very delicious and the egg was cooked perfectly that the yolk was still runny. I had the Green Apple sweet tea, a bit on the sweeter side but you can taste both the green apple and the sweet tea. The total for a family of four was very reasonable and honestly a lot cheaper than other places. This may be our new go to when it comes to breakfast.

Chicken dumplings

This is my 1st visit to a Cracker Barrel despite seeing the name for many times in the past. I was excited to try it but my husband has reminded to set a realistic expectation. We walked past the store where there were a lot of nostalgic items as well as Christmas things. The store smelled nice and we proceeded to the hostess area where a gentleman sat us immediately. Our server was a young man and took our orders of chicken dumplings and meatloaf. It was around 10 minutes when our food was delivered. My first impression looking at my dish was is this for human consumption? I get it, chicken dumpling is a hearty country cooking. Presentation matters. It was so gross looking as the sauce/gravy were super thick and looked dry. Then chunks of dumplings were just piling underneath the thick white gravy. There were few pieces of chicken breasts under the dumplings. I was hesitant to try but my husband said the taste was acceptable. I ended up trying a bite and had to ask the server to heat it up since it was just room temperature. The server's mask was under his chin and I didn't feel comfortable eating after the plate was reheated. So I just left it. Both side dishes were ok! My husband's meatloaf was kinda dry and he said the fried okras were good. Anyhow, this isn't a place we'll be returning. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong entrees...

We had called in advance for reservations since we had a large party which is a good idea. They have a great menu including some great beers on tap (I had a blue moon, but others enjoyed local choices. Then we started out with some fried cheese curds. I am not a big fan of cheese curds, but these were delicious with a light bread coating and fried perfectly. For my main course, I ordered the Nashville which includes spareribs and brisket (on Texas toast). They have some incredible sides where you could pick two--I had the corn muffins and the beans (but also tried the hush puppies which were also great. Really excellent barbeque. The ribs were cooked just right and had a really nice flavor. They have several choices for sauces you can add on the table and the sweet one worked great for me. Then as much as I liked the ribs, I absolutely loved the brisket. Great flavor and it just melted in my mouth. Then both sides were outstanding, the corn muffins were so good. Everyone loved their sides. The portions were really generous also. Nobody finished and everyone loved it. Definitely worth a trip!

Hubs loved the cornbread muffins and I was impressed with the perfectly creamy cole slaw. Plenty of leftovers that we polished off the next day. Would return, maybe to add some seafood next time!

Smashburgers done right! I am extremely happy to report that Settle Down Tavern perfected their…read morecraft, rather than just blindly jumping on the trend for the sake of saying it's on the menu. Settle Down has patties that are smashed to a lacy, crisp, well-browned perfection. Points also given for high quality beef that is well-seasoned. Both times, I ordered a Good Idea (a great idea, if you ask me). A simpler combination of meat, cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and sauce. Everything goes together fantastically and stays in perfect balance. I happily devoured it both times, and would have asked for a second if I was feeling especially ravenous. That said, for me, one burger is enough to no longer be hungry, but also won't make me chock-full. Another thing at Settle Down I enjoy is the different varieties of pickled goodies. These all taste fresh and house-made, with that little bit of magic touch not found in commercially manufactured items of the same name. The chocolate chip cookie also should not be slept on: it is warm, wonderfully chocolatey without going overboard, and had that little sprinkle of salt that elevates it to the next level. Outside of food, I was able to try some of their non-alcoholic beverages, and both times they were a hit. They are tasty, interesting and unique (celery lemonade, anyone?) Love that they aren't necessarily sugar bombs, nor do they use Ritual brand n/a spirits that taste like industrial de-greaser. The service here is very good. Staff is friendly and fairly attentive. On my second visit they were absolutely slammed and shorthanded, but still working as fast as possible to get everyone fed. Finally, there is the question of value. Given the price of everything, and the quality of the product, I feel that Settle Down Tavern delivers an excellent value. It may not be quite as cheap as fast food, but a massive upgrade for a few more dollars. Final verdict: Among many flops, Settle Down is one of two smashburgers I've had that were done right. This, combined with great service and value leads to a winning proposition.

I love that you can see them prepare each of the dishes on the screens by the kitchen. excellent service as well, staff did a great job at taking away dirty plates/glasses and replacing accordingly. I also thought each round was spaced out well so that I was never waiting for too long or had too little time to eat. There was a blindfold round where we had to rely on just taste & touch to figure out what we were eating which was both silly and fun (we found out what we were eating at the end and got some more as a gift to go). my personal fav of the meal was the sun meadow chilean sea bass!!! the sun meadow oil is a perfect dupe of butter and melted straight into that sea bass, paired with crunchy capers on a bed of creamy whipped goodness. All of the sauces were done extraordinarily well, especially that under the braised leeks!!! the tuna tartare was my bf's fav - crunchy toppings with fresh tuna on avocado in a spicy, asian inspired sauce. we were less impressed by the raviolo and steak entrees but still good (the chili oil on the raviolo kinda threw me off). the intermission was nice as a brief break to shop around and purchase things at a discount. overall, pricy meal but definitely a whole experience (3 hours long that is!). would highly recommend trying this out if you also enjoy fine dining experiences. I personally wanna come back to try their wednesday night burgers soon!!

Think dining as the entertainment and the social experience, not shoveling it in and table turnover for tips. With creative presentations, themed courses, and a strong emphasis on sensory elements, the team puts a lot of thought and passion into crafting something unique. The multicourse meal offered a wide range of flavors and techniques--some dishes were genuinely impressive, others more about the concept than the taste. The pacing was smooth, and the staff was warm, knowledgeable, and clearly invested in making the night feel special. It's the kind of place where you sit back and let the experience unfold. That said, for me, it landed in the category of "worth doing once." The evening was fun and distinctive, but more of a special-occasion outing than a spot I'd return to regularly. If you enjoy immersive dining or want something out of the ordinary, it's definitely worth trying at least once.

Online ordering was very easy and the food was ready right on time! We got the smoked pork shoulder sandwich platter with coleslaw and corn bread bites and the spicy chicken breast sandwich platter with baked beans and Mac & Cheese. The buns they use for these sandwiches are a great texture and hold up well to the amount of meat and sauce that you want on a BBQ sandwich. It never felt soggy, which is rare around the area. The pork was flavorful with a very fine shred. I wouldn't say the chicken was spicy as said on the menu, but more peppered. The real star is the bbq sauce because it comes out warm and is thin enough to pour but has enough texture to stick to the meat. Went well with everything from the meats, to the Mac & Cheese, to the corn bread bites. The corn bread bites were the stand out side, kind of like a hush puppy. Would recommend at least one person in your group gets them. I even liked them topped with the baked beans. Overall, very tasty food and nice people working.
