The moment you get seated, you're presented with this abomination of a menu. Every picture is AI generated. And it isn't even good or convincing. The pictures are so weird and uncanny and off-putting. I hate it so much. It makes the food seem so unappetizing. The gumbo we got looks nothing like the photo, wtf are we doing guys? It's pure laziness. It's disrespectful. You guys should not even need to use AI for this. How hard is it to take a picture of your own food? Do yourselves a favor and change your menus to real pictures. Even the decorative background pictures in the margins are ai generated. I saw a cute little sign in the front with a hand drawn crab. Just do that for your menu man. We got mild house sauce. It had like no taste. So go extra spice if you want to taste something The crawfish has zero flavor. The sauce didn't soak into the meat. The sausage is just some boring brown salty one. Not the red Andouille sausage (the best one imo). Not that great Fries come out piping hot and crispy. But when they cooled down, they taste dry like they're stale. They're not gooey inside like mash potatoes which is how I personally like my fries. Not worth taking to go The sweet corn was good. Can't really mess that up Oysters by themselves are bland. Didn't taste weird tho. They are attached to the shell still, so don't forget to separate them before slurping. You need to squeeze that lemon on there to add flavor. Tabasco is not good with them. Eat them with the cocktail sauce instead. They gave us packets of salt and pepper instead of shakers which is a little inconvenient. But if it's for sanitary reasons, I understand The robot I suspect was there as extra help cuz there's not a lot of employees working here yet. Maybe when things get crazy busy, it could be useful. I guess it's cool. But it just didn't seem that essential when I was here. Our server was patient and didn't get frustrated when we did not yet know our final choices. I can appreciate that. The crab and mussels and wings were just fine. I don't know if it's a good decision to include seafood with wings and Korean bbq short ribs and rice and instant noodles (for $3.25 wtf?) all on the same menu. It seems a bit unintentional. I sense they were trying to go for an Asian feel with the decor. It doesn't feel like Vietnamese-Cajun fusion identity tho. So I'm confused. I'm ok with the idea of fusion, but it isn't clear to me how this abysmal menu works together. You need to think a little harder how you want to approach this new evolved fusion idea if that's what you're going for. If I were you, I'd lean more towards adding Vietnamese food items. Can ordinary people afford this? It's seafood man. So it's pricey. Family of 7 adults and 5 kids, we spent over $300. But I will say it didn't seem like we were unwelcome. So be as loud as you want here. Are any relationships being created beyond consumption? Not really. We're paying money to be delivered to that saucy bag of seafood, that commodity. Not much else. But with family, it can still be a joyous experience. Overall, I think this place was mid. I wasn't wowed by any of the items we got. Maybe it's not matured yet. Maybe it's still figuring it out. Had a really good time here at Crab 99. The place has a great vibe; the waitress came and took our order in an orderly fashion. And then the robot delivers the food. It's a new experience. The food was good. We really enjoyed the Cajun fries - crispy and bold flavor. The seafood was great. You gotta try the fried crayfish - it's really good!! The seafood boil was good. My recent dining experience at Crab99 in Phoenix was extremely disappointing and left me questioning both the quality of the food and the professionalism of the management. What should have been an enjoyable meal with my wife turned into a frustrating experience involving poor food quality, concerns about food safety, and customer service that ultimately failed to address legitimate complaints. From the moment our food arrived, there were clear signs that quality was not a priority. I ordered a lobster tail, expecting a flavorful seafood entrée that would justify the price and reputation of a seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, the lobster tail was one of the worst seafood dishes I have been served in recent memory. It lacked flavor almost entirely and had a rubbery texture that made it difficult to enjoy. Lobster should be tender, moist, and naturally sweet. Instead, this lobster tail tasted overcooked and neglected, with a texture more comparable to chewing rubber than eating fresh seafood. Every bite was disappointing, and it quickly became apparent that this was not a dish prepared with care or attention to quality. The issues did not stop there. I also ordered clam chowder, expecting a rich and hearty soup with noticeable clam flavor and substance. What arrived was something that seemed more like cream flavored butter than clam chowder. The soup was excessively rich without providing any of the seafood flavor that customers would reasonably expect. More concerning was the apparent lack of clams. Rather than tasting like a balanced seafood chowder, it tasted overwhelmingly heavy and greasy. It felt as though the focus was on masking deficiencies with cream and butter rather than providing a quality product. For a restaurant specializing in seafood, serving clam chowder with little clam flavor is difficult to excuse. The most troubling part of the evening involved my wife's meal. She ordered clams but quickly became concerned about both the taste and quality. After eating only a portion of them, she stopped because something seemed wrong. She described the taste as strange and unpleasant, comparing it to dry ice. While unusual, that description reflected just how off-putting the flavor was. Trusting one's instincts when food does not taste right is important, and she chose not to finish the meal. Unfortunately, her concerns proved justified. Shortly after our visit, she became sick. While it is impossible to definitively prove the exact cause without laboratory testing, the timing and circumstances raised serious concerns. When a customer experiences illness after eating seafood and had already noted that the food tasted abnormal, it naturally creates doubts about freshness, preparation, and food handling practices. At a minimum, the experience destroyed any confidence we had in the restaurant's ability to provide safe and enjoyable meals. I spoke with the manager, Bryan, and explained our experience in detail. During the conversation, he asked what he could do to make the situation right. I appreciated the question because it suggested a willingness to address customer concerns and find a reasonable resolution. I responded honestly and directly: given the poor quality of the food, the fact that my wife became sick, and the overall disappointing experience, I felt a refund was appropriate. This seemed like a reasonable request under the circumstances. A restaurant that values customer satisfaction should be willing to stand behind its food when multiple items fail to meet expectations and a customer reports becoming ill after dining there. However, what happened next only added to the frustration. After being asked what resolution I wanted, I was instructed to call back with my receipt information. I did exactly that, expecting the conversation to continue toward a solution. Instead, I was told that there was nothing that could be done. The manager who had asked how he could make the situation right suddenly appeared unwilling or unable to take meaningful action. This response was not only disappointing but also unprofessional. Asking a customer how a problem can be resolved creates an expectation that management is genuinely interested in addressing the issue. Having the customer take the time to provide receipt information and then simply stating that nothing can be done sends the opposite message. It suggests either a lack of authority, a lack of concern, or poor communication. None of those possibilities reflect well on management.
