Her hair was past her bottom and too long for us to manage. My babe never got her hair washed. Stylist just did a dry cut. And it was over in 20 minutes. $60?! Whoa. She didn't get a $60 experience. No hair wash or blow dry. Just a quick rough, dry cut. She was disappointed and so was I. We didn't say anything but reflecting back, I was shocked at being charged so much for so little service. It was $60 with tip. I'm assuming the salon sets a base price, not the stylist. Nevertheless, I take my daughter elsewhere where she gets the full salon experience. There seems to have been a personal/management change a while back and most of the folks I knew previously are gone. But the new folks are all excellent. This place probably isn't for everyone so let me tell you what is and isn't here. From the outside the place looks a bit like a dive. The entryway is nice enough, although small. And the rooms and tables are minimal, Spartan, sparsely decorated, and almost cramped. I say "almost" because while the rooms seem small to me when I walk in and dress or undress, I don't believe the massages are affected at all. The music is grossly under par. Same stuff for months. Not offensive, just tiring. They've experimented with other stuff some recently but it's still not great. And this is one area where they could greatly improve for little or no added cost. It's true that the walls are thin and that the staff sometimes talks to coordinate what's going on. The thin walls I notice nearly every visit but it's rare for anyone in the room with me to talk. So... if you're looking for a zen cultivating decor or music, you may be disappointed. I also don't get the best massages of my life here. Sorry. One more thing you won't find here: $200/hr sessions. The prices here seem to follow an Asian massage practice, common at both "foot" massage places as well as whole body parlors where the hour long massage can be quite inexpensive, even as low as $15, but that seems to be the house take. The massage practitioners seem to live on tips so it's not uncommon to tip 50-100% rather than our common 15-20%. But even at 50% tipping, my total cost for massage plus tip here is still entirely reasonable. What I do find here and the reason I come back week after week, sometimes several times a week, are consistently excellent massages for very reasonable prices. I don't want to pay an additional $100/hr for nice decor and water features. I want the bulk of my money to go directly into the quality of touch and I believe Mind of Beauty is a superb match for me in this regard. Of the three practitioners I've been seeing recently, they are all my favorite. Or maybe my favorite is whoever I've just had. Coco, Mia, and Sandy are all slightly different but they are all excellent and of similar quality - consistently professional, consistently excellent. If you're looking for consistently excellent massages at an very good price, even including your tip, I highly recommend Mind of Beauty Day Spa. Please bring cash for tips and plan to tip considerably more than you would for wait staff.
