This shop is the most dishonest and shady dealer in the state! I went in there to do a PPT and the first thing they asked is whether the gun is "on or off roster". I found that strange because I bought the gun in California. John opened the case and immediately said "it's off roster. we cant do it" PPT is a right and no dealer cant refuse it. We then asked that if this is the law or just his shop's policy. He fumbled and said "we are waiting for our attorney for guidance". We left the gloomy, soon to fail store and told them we will call another shop. We called another shop and asked whether on or off rosters have special exemptions, to which they responded "not at all". This shop lies to customers and I will be filling a complaint with the CA DOJ to investigate. They do shady things with PPT because in their eyes, theyre not making money. But they are violating the law by denying PPT as required by law. They also have denied people to take the FSC if they are not planning to purchase. They dont realize that the seller would have a wad of cash and that would be a selling opportunity. read more

Thank you for the response, John, but it still completely misses the point. The Tikka inquiry was over three years ago--well before the 11% excise tax. Your reply doesn't take that timeline in to account. More concerning is the dismissive claim that your pricing simply "doesn't fit my budget." You have no idea what my budget is. I can afford your prices--I choose not to pay them because they are inflated and inconsistent. I've spoken with multiple customers, including those in fire and LE circles, who were quoted significantly lower for the same items. It's clear your pricing varies depending on who the customer is and how the conversation begins. Had I led with my background, I suspect the treatment--and the quote--would have been very different. I have no interest in supporting a business that selectively applies markups based on perceived affiliations and treats potential customers with disrespect when they don't flash the right credentials. Consistency, transparency, and respect shouldn't be conditional. read more

Details: Coyote Point Armory wins on multiple fronts, from stock to knowledge to attitude to connections. The store is staffed by some of the most knowledgeable and helpful folks I have ever encountered at any gun store anywhere in the US, period. Special kudos to employees Scott and Will, but everyone I have worked with there is top-notch. They stock virtually every brand, including the popular handgun brands Sig-Sauer and Glock, as well as a wide variety of shotgun and rifle brands. They know the guns, and just as important, they know the laws. Finally, they have connections...they were able to refer me to an excellent training organization (Bay Area Tactical, which I have reviewed separately) to continue my training and education. Drove here from Richmond, Ca to get some LC380 magazines so my wife can have them for her CCW training class on Saturday. It was well worth the drive. Both gentlemen were courteous and knowledgeable. I live in SF where there are no shops like this. Did my research and concluded this is probably the closest shop to me, it was about 25 min drive w/ no traffic. Easy parking. The door to the shop is on the ground floor but the actual shop is upstairs. Staff is very knowledgeable, very approachable. Upon request, they were able to administer the FSC test so I could get my license (cost about $25). It's good to know where to go when you have questions; this is my go to spot now for sure. read more

I paid my first visit to the store and met with the crew today. The FORCE felt strong with them. Johnny is obviously the Master Jedi of this tiny yet efficient temple of firearms; offering a narrow product range yet a decent selection of pistols overall! Today's world is complicated enough, you know, so I absolutely do not want any more distracting things getting in the way while I'm shopping, especially when I'm SPECIFIC about what I am looking for -- In my most preciously valuable time -- which is not often yet strictly always the case. TIME is not something that I create or make. So, I'm glad that I chose to invest my TIME as well as money in a sincere effort to SUPPORT this business today; as my appreciation for what they do, I'm sure did not remain unacknowledged in the eyes of a true BOSS. Will, on the other hand, absolutely SOUNDed like a compassionate padawan learner who felt a little hesitant to use his salesperson skills as he did not take initiative until I encouraged him to actually contribute to my decision making. He works in between two obviously opposing forces. I bet it's one of his daily challenges to find balance in such demanding current of electricity. I hope he does not short circuit. He is striving. Don't celebrate just yet. Save yourself from a headache and extra leg work and run away! This dealer will ruin your firearms experience! They are by FAR the worst dealer in California. The middle aged man pretending to work there always sits behind the computer and doesn't say anything but he randomly spits some words and barges in the conversation like a child. The first time I conducted business with Coyote Point Armory  was in march of 2021 and it was inconvenient and painful but I decided to let it go and not make a big deal out of it. For my first encounter I had to make 4 visits, that's 4 round trips a total of 264 miles! I called to obtain information on a H&K USP V1 full size and they said they had them in stock for a fair price so I drove over to make the purchase. Upon arrival almost immediately I felt unwelcome and distressed, The middle aged person behind the counter lacked customer service skills and had a dismissive behavior, He didn't show any interest in my inquiry and made me feel unwelcome. Unfortunately for me they were getting ready to close for the day so I had to come back another day to start the DROS. The next time around I received the same hospitality from the same middle aged man and once again I was turned away and was told that my car registration was not a valid proof of residency because the registration had ONE day left to take effect and be valid so I had to come back another day!  The requirement to start a DROS is a valid CA ID and FSC. proof of residency can be submitted on the pick up day, I've done this process many times. So for the third visit I dealt with a different sales rep, A young gentleman and a young girl were there, they were both polite and very motivated to help and this time around everything went smoothly without any problems. I also had to get my fsc card since my old one had expired. On the pickup date I dealt with the same young man and again he was courteous and helpful and finally before I paid the tab in full, The middle age man asked me if I was interested in purchasing a box of ammo and stated one box limit per customer. I said yes and asked if I could get another box with a different caliber, He immediately raised his voice and yelled "LIMIT ONE BOX PER CUSTOMER ONLY!!! I paid the tab and left and never looked back... Later I discovered some scuff marks on the front of the slide of the brand new pistol... I'll provide a photo for reference. Fast forward to 10-4-2023 I found a gun for sale on calguns. The seller was located near the peninsula and wanted to meet at Coyote point armory to do the ppt, Both seller and I had previously conducted business with Coyote point so we agreed to meet around 2pm When I arrived the two previous salesmen were present. Another elderly gentleman who I assumed to be the owner of the establishment was also present, No customers other than myself were present. I was greeted by the younger man who had previously helped me and I informed him that I wanted to do a ppt but I had lost my FSC card and needed to make a copy, The owner immediately interrupted the conversation and said they do ppt if all the requirements are present. I mentioned that I had my fsc taken at their location and by law they are obligated by law to make me a copy for $5 but they refused to do so because the employee who had previously helped me is no longer working for them and they can not access the file and the only way for me to get an fsc from them is to purchase another firearm because they don't make money through ppt....These are the words that came from the owner....He didn't care, didn't bother to check for my name, he just didn't want to help.  I got cheated again for the 2nd time... I understand that ppt transfers do not provide a profit for dealers but it is their obligation to perform this task by LAW. Refusal to do so can have consequences from the department of justice. read more

Ever since I started getting into guns, buying/shooting/general "knowing" about, there's been a gun I wanted, but could never get. That gun is the Heckler and Koch USP Elite, chambered in .45 ACP (goo.gl/v9nRWQ). Thankfully the gun is on California's idiotic, communistical "roster", or the list of guns that California says are safe enough to have (goo.gl/p7M9m2). Which as far as I know, no other states use. And excludes many guns from such companies as Glock, Smith and Wesson, and other famous manufacturers who can be trusted beyond a shadow of a doubt to make safe guns. But that's what electing a bunch of communist liberals did for us, and ooh boy will it get worse in 2018. Back to the HK, I've always loved the way this gun looks. The extended slide to cover the huge 6" barrel. The chunky grip. The hammer and safety/decocking lever. The massive trigger guard. It just looks amazing, and knowing the strong connection it shares with the unattainable Heckler and Koch Mark 23 (goo.gl/58szCj) made it even more desirable for me. The issue is that no matter how hard I looked, I never was able to find an Elite in stock. It seemed like I was always a few months late, finding Facebook posts that mentioned shipments that had already been long gone, or talking to gun stores that basically said they had no idea when or if they would get any. So a few years ago, I mentally resigned myself to the idea that I would never own an Elite. But then one day, while dreaming about how great an Elite is, I happened to check a link to a Facebook post, for a store I've never heard of called Coyote Point Armory. At first I thought I was reading it wrong, but then it dawned on me - yes, they really were saying that they were expecting a shipment of Elites, and were pre-selling them now! Heart racing, I ran outside as fast I could (can't be talking about guns at work, not in this state) and called. You're still expecting the shipment? And two are unsold? And I can come tonight and get one of the last ones? I'll make up an excuse and leave work now! Off I drove, not quite racing but well in excess of the posted speed limit. The thought of the Elite was all encompassing. Could this really be the start of the process (thanks again Commiefornia) to actually owning this thing that I had thought I'd never have? As I neared the store, I started thinking all manner of negative thoughts. What if my HSC is out of date? What if my credit card gets declined? What if they already sold them and I'm too late? I nearly ran up the stairs and, with trepidation, approached the counter. Preparing myself for the worst, I asked them if there were any Elites left. There were, and I was welcome to buy one right that moment! Nobody has ever had a credit card presented that quickly. And thus began a 2 month process that, while much longer than anticipated, literally resulted in my dream coming true. Given the guns were not in stock, we could "buy" one, but it was really more reserving it. This was in early October, so my expectation was that by Halloween I would be happily putting the first rounds from my first HK and first .45 ACP firearm downrange. And then I realized that HK's civilian sales reputation (goo.gl/vZDQbh) was not, in fact, an exaggeration. A week went by, and I called. Coyote Point hadn't received word. Another week went by, another call. Still no word. No chance for Halloween range trips, maybe pre-Thanksgiving? Or not. Another week, it's now 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. The gun is in! Only 1 and a half months late. Oh well. This time, there was no rush. I drove over, in a bit of a mood, as I had realized an awful truth. While the gun was at the store, the 10 day waiting period (seriously California, get your act together) meant I wouldn't be able to get the gun until the week of Thanksgiving. A week I would be spending out of state. I got to Coyote Point, and finally beheld "my" Elite. Beautiful. Even better than in the pictures. Such a nice balance, the grip is large but fits my hands perfectly. High target sights. Match grade trigger. The decocker! And then it was time to give it back, glumly, as about 20 days of waiting was now ahead of me. Oh well, I've waited for years, a few extra, unanticipated days won't kill me. Probably. Finally, unbelievably, it was the day. I couldn't believe it, I was leaving on an international trip the next day, but I left work early to make sure I could beat traffic and pick up the gun and hit the range. When I finally got to Coyote Point, the salesman showed me how to operate it, and I absolutely floated to the range. I couldn't believe it, the Elite was now mine. As I loaded the magazine and racked the slide, everything felt even better than I had hoped. And when I took the first few shots, it was so accurate and just... amazing. Better than I could have hoped. So thank you Coyote Point, you made my dream come true. And that burnt bronze Desert Eagle .44 is very tempting... read more

Also, what rifle was I trying to PPT? This transaction happened many months ago so I find it hard to believe you were able to find my specific video. And no, I never had an attitude. Update on 6/3 based on John's reply: IIRC, you told me the muzzle brake needed to be welded to meet 922r compliance. YOU brought up the 922r compliance (remember what I said about you making up all these excuses?), NOT ME. In addition to the 3 little screws on my fin grip, I also have a screw going through it (and the grip) so that it's even more secure. And no, my muzzle brake isn't installed upside down. Can't stop with your excuses, eh? Original review: I was a little hesitant to come here to do a PPT based on what I heard online and from friends. I guess the rumors are true... The guy that "helped" me used so many excuses to deny my PPT. He would say one thing and when I'd prove him wrong, he would make up another thing. When I proved him wrong again, he'd find another problem. This continued for a good 20 min until I had enough and went somewhere else. The guy should study up on 922r compliance, what featureless means, and not try to be a lawyer. Don't waste your time coming here to do a PPT. I'm wavering between two and three stars, so I'll err on the side of being generous since this place has gotten good reviews, so maybe this was a one-off? My interaction with CPA was very positive in the beginning. They responded to my emails inquiring about stock promptly so I decided to stop by and make a purchase. Upon arriving, parking was easy as was finding the store. No waiting, went inside and was helped within about 15 minutes. Staff was really nice and attentive. In addition to the firearm, I wanted to get some sights installed, so paid an extra $120 on top of the firearm, but figured it was the best time to do it since I had to wait 10 days anyway per CA law while they conducted my background check. Exactly 10 days pass and I return to pick up my firearm. Scott tells me that the sights haven't been installed "because the gunsmith didn't get around to it" and then he tells me I'm going to need to give them another day or two. Are you kidding me? 10 days isn't enough time for you to do a simple install on some basic sights? I made the 45-minute drive to your store, and I didn't even get any kind of apology. I told them to refund my money for the sights and install, which they did, took my firearm and left minus my sights. Good customer service isn't about when things are going well, it's about what happens when they don't. Considering I live in the Bay Area and gun shops are few and far between shouldn't mean customers get treated poorly. I wasn't expecting them to offer me a discount on the sights or a free installation which would've been really nice, but a simple "I'm very sorry this happened, we messed up." would've gone a long way. I left with a bad taste and would think twice about coming back or sending anyone there. UPDATE: After reading my review, John, the owner, reached out to me and explained why they couldn't install my sights, which I appreciated, but it should've been explained to me while I was in store and not afterwards. I like to use this FFL for personal transfer because it's located close to me. The store is always empty and I never had to make an appointment or to wait. But there's a reason why it's empty and it's not a mystery. Please read the other negative feedbacks and they pretty much summed up everything and no need for me to repeat my same experience. If you've dealt with them before, you already have your own opinion, either good or bad. If you've never dealt with them, there are other FFLs in that area which will provide much better services, more selections, and with better price. Bass Pro's listing price for an in-stock Glock 19 is $529 compare to Coyote Point $620. Other FFLs in the Peninsula area also list their Glock 19 in the $600 range but providing much better services. There's no logical reason to visit Coyote Point Armory unless you want to confirm all the negative feedbacks are right. If you are new to this hobby and do not have a lot of experience of buying guns and insist to give them a try, please confirm everything that they say. They talk like legal experts and throw you all the codes and regulations. Most of them are just self serving B.S. If you are looking for something that they don't have it in stock or can't order it for you, they will simply tell you that item is illegal. This is my first and only negative review on Yelp or any public forum. The sports shooting community is a tight one and we all look out for each other. You've been warned. read more

It was my first time visiting the other day looking for ammo (9mm and .40cal) which was completely out of stock. I was not surprised considering what's going on. I put my name on the waiting list anyway to check out the shop. There were only a few people ahead of me so I only had to wait for about 10-15 minutes. All of the staff, including the gentleman at the front door, were nice and welcoming. The actual shop is on the second floor. Excellent service, fair pricing and fair selection (especially in light of the current panic run on firearms nationwide), and perhaps the most bearable waitlist system of any LGS in the Upper Peninsula due to current social distancing regulations (at least based on my personal experience -- all's ya need ta do is sign up in person on the waiting list maintained at the front door, then head back to the luxury of your car and wait for a phone call in; took me about an hour +/- to get in both to purchase and pickup 2 weeks later [yes, CA has a 10 day waiting period; yes, it's a pain in the ass and the longest 10 days ever; yes, the CA DOJ is backed up thus extending the waiting period beyond 10 days; yes, please write your congresswo/man to change this and please remember to vote against any further violations of YOUR Constitutional rights this and every November!]). Joaquin was very patient, pleasant, and detailed in educating me and guiding me with my purchase, and Scott was very pleasant and efficient with processing the purchase itself (prepare for A LOT of paperwork if it's your first firearm!). I didn't have a chance to work with the female employee there whose name eluded me, but she was still very pleasant and jovial towards me as well in the brief interactions we had. Thank you to all of them for having such great attitudes and being so helpful during these crazy times! Also, big props to Coyote Point Armory for making it a point to enact measures to ensure that every firearm-purchasing customer also has a chance to purchase ammunition with their new firearm! There are Elmer Fudds out there that will buy out entire stocks of ammunition in stores, leaving NOTHING for other customers *cough* Big 5 *cough*, so much appreciation to the fine folks here actively preventing that. I'm an essential worker so it's hard for me to get in here to shop during their normal hours without having to take PTO, otherwise I'd come more frequently to make more purchases from them (unfortunately they're too slammed to offer quotes on the phone, and it's a guaranteed wait due to only 2 customers allowed in-store at a time to maintain social distancing).
