Came here around 15 years ago and remembered loving it. Was in Boone this week for a vacation and decided to try it. First of all, this place has really expanded since the early days when I was last here. We tried several of the salsas and loved all of them. I came with the family to this place because it was highly recommended. However, we all felt that there were things that could have been better. The place itself, was small and the seating area was too tight, even for a table of four. The food was good but with a minimal variety of dishes on the menu. The service was good, social and some how informative regarding their menu. terrible service, terrible food, staff was rude and obnoxious. When our food was "lost" in the kitchen they blamed it on the kitchen staff when in fact she just forgot to put out order in. Food is good and our server was great but don't you dare move your chair even an inch closer to your significant other or you will constantly get yelled at by random staff (multiple times) telling you that you aren't 6 feet apart. Covid pre-cautions are always a necessity these days but to be yelled at several times for moving our chairs inches closer when other tables and couples were an inch apart is ridiculous. The salsa sampler is a good one to try. The wait time and food service time get delayed on weekends. The patio seating is pet friendly.

Good spot with an okay selection of Vegan food, impossible burger and some tacos/bowls. Be prepared for everything on the menu to be spicy. I don't enjoy spicy so I went with the impossible burger and sweet potato fries. They have an outdoor heated patio and indoor dining area. Very clean indoors and outside. Bathrooms were very nice as well. Service was quick and polite. Loved our waitresses, very sweet girls. Four stars simply because i would have enjoyed a taco/bowl with no heat. read more

Chipotle burger and Domingo burrito were excellent! We also had a chips and salsa sampler as an appetizer. It came with four different and unique salsas. I asked for my burrito to come dairy free (without jack cheese and chipotle cream cheese) and they were very accommodating and I had no issues with the burrito I received. I would highly recommend the raspberry salsa on the Domingo burrito! Outdoor and indoor seating is available. The check in process made it so only one party was at the check in table inside at a time to promote social distancing. Service was great overall. read more

We had a hard time choosing. The yucca app was ok and the main course was too much to finish. We should have shared the main course. I can see why this restaurant is rated a 4. I have eaten at Coyote Kitchen several times, and have always enjoyed the food and the value. We went last night and I ordered the Domingo Burrito with cranberry chipotle salsa. It was really bad. First of all, it was so dry that it stuck to the roof of my mouth. I was asked by the waitress if I wanted queso on top, and I said yes...not knowing that this was a 2 dollar upcharge for rubbery velveeta style cheese sauce, and not very much of it. The salsa was brought out in a tiny cup that maybe held 2 ounces..not nearly enough. Besides being dry, it lacked seasonings ...it needed more cowbell. Garlic, chili, cumin, etc. Also, the tortilla chips were weird...very thick and difficult to eat. Everyone else had the same impression of their food...they got bowls, and said that there was just no flavor. Our bill for the two of us...we had the same thing...burrito and salsa, and iced tea and one alcoholic drink came to 54.00 with the tip. I do not mind paying for good food, but this was abysmal, and I will not be returning. I wondered what had changed, and found out that it was bought out by Lost Provence last year. The service was really great, though. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance inside is like an echo chamber, but it has always been very loud. The outdoor seating is better. I give this place 2 out of 5 stars, only b/c of the service. If I was judging on the food alone, 1/2 star. They need a big revamp on their menu. read more

I would like to say the menu items all sound amazing BUT they are not! I got the Barbados Jerk chicken bowl which lacked all the jerk season and flavor. I had to add salt and still had no flavor! I also ordered the jerk chicken plate which the menu stated a chicken leg quarter it was NOT! It came out with a small boneless chicken breast. I spoke with I'm assuming a manager and she was very rude, sarcastic and unprofessional. If you're no longer serving a menu item please update your menus!!! If you are looking for good service, I would not recommend this restaurant. We waited at the bar for a table for at least 30 minutes. Once we were seated, we watched two other tables be seated after us. But no waitress approached our table. Other tables received drinks and placed their orders. I've eaten at Coyote Kitchen several times over the past few years, and always had a very good experience, both with the service and with the food. Until today. My husband and I had a late lunch. When our waiter finally came to the table (after waiting 10 minutes in an almost empty restaurant), he didn't come with menus, but he came ready to take our order. Even though he could see we did not have any menus. He seemed very put out when we asked to see the menus and then literally hovered over us while we were looking at it. We both ordered the Salmon boat. I've had this dish several times and it was always extremely tasty with a large piece of salmon. Today I got an order that literally had a salmon piece so tiny, it was eaten in three small bites. The small salmon portion which was very dry was dumped on top of absolutely tasteless beans and rice and a few pieces of dry out sweet potato. What I assume was the crema was drizzled on top. The whole meal was one of the worst I ever had in Boone which boasts some excellent restaurants, of which Coyote has always been one of my favorites. Maybe they reheated this dish from yesterday - it certainly did not taste fresh. My husband could not eat most of his plate for same reason as me- dry, minuscule piece of salmon dumped on top of tasteless beans and rice. When the waiter came to clear the table, I asked him if he had mistakenly ordered the lunch portion instead of the dinner portion of the salmon? He said that all the portions come the same size. They do not. Because my salmon was so minuscule that there's no way that it was a dinner or a lunch portion for that matter. Again I've had this dish several times before so I know what it's supposed to look like and taste like. The waiter, instead of trying to deal with a dissatisfied customer by at least offering me maybe a dessert or a little off my bill was not inclined to do anything and just told me that what I got was what they had. His whole attitude from start to finished sucked. When it came time to pay the bill, he hovered over me while I finished putting the food in boxes and then took my credit card. I guess there's no such thing anymore as 15% tips because now they start at 20, 25 and 30%. He deserved maybe a 5% tip but I gave him a 20% tip against my better judgment because I couldn't wait to leave. I hope the management reads this review and tries to make this right. Because I will never recommend coyote kitchen again and until this is addressed. Management might also consider firing this waiter who was quite unfriendly In case management reading this, the customers at the table next to mine had one problem after another with their order I will upgrade my review when this problem is fixed and I go back to Coyote read more

Wow! I didn't necessarily drive from Charlotte to eat at this place, but I did plan on eating here while I was in town. Boy was that a big mistake! For starters there was not one Mexican on site! Not in the kitchen or having lunch! That's a huge RED FLAG! But we decided to give them a try anyway. They serve Tacos, Burritos, Rice Bowls, and other items that didn't really appeal to us. They have hostesses that try to assign you a table which I hate! If I'm paying to eat at your restaurant don't tell me where to sit. The servers and staff were polite and our subpar food arrived rather quickly. I ordered the "Marley" burrito which consists of so called Jerk Chicken (barely any jerk), coconut rice (with no noticeable taste of coconut), fried sweet potato (why is there sweet potato in a burrito), black beans, sweet plantains, and grilled pineapples. It was horrible! The chicken barely had any flavor much less any jerk seasoning. Who decided it would be a good idea to put fried sweet potato in a burrito shouldn't be working in the food industry. It was a dry, bland, unmemorable burrito. The same applies to their bowls which was missing flavor and authenticity. I can imagine why they have such good reviews in this predominantly Caucasian city. However, if you're familiar with Jerk Chicken, Tacos, Burritos and FLAVOR!! You will absolutely not enjoy this place. Even their chips tasted like bag chips and they don't have free refill soda. It was a huge disappointment. We ended up eating pizza shortly after. read more

A far step away from white tablecloths, this relaxed environment clearly is a staple For locals. Salsa varieties set the stage for interesting combinations of bowls and tacos. Coconut rice is the foundation for a lot of options and particularly liked the chunky salsa cranberry chipotle and pineapple habanero. When this place is 100% full I am sure it gets plenty loud and they smartly use some covered outdoor seating in front. Seated reasonably fast during Saturday dinner prime time and good service. Waiter, Cole brought us waters for the kids upon greeting our table and suggested apps due to an unusual amount of patrons for a Sunday at 2pm. Kids enjoyed the chips and mango salsa. My wife and I enjoyed the chipotle cream cheese and mango salsa. I ordered my usual Yucatán boat with fried shrimp and my wife got the Taos to split with my youngest. This place offers free cheese quesadilla with any adult entree so we always take advantage of that deal. The boats did not disappoint. We are on a family vacation from CT and friends who live nearby suggested this restaurant. While we waited a bit long considering the restaurant wasn't that busy, the bartender made us next level drinks and could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Our waiter was very sweet and attentive and the food was so delicious! We had the light and fluffy hush puppies, plantains and not your average nachos. The rest of our meal was also delicious. Oh, how I wish we had a Coyote's Kitchen back home in CA! During our NC vacation we just had to hit this place twice, it was that good. The wealth of menu choices all sounded so amazing it was hard to decide, we wanted to try everything! But when we did, no regrets, our meals were delicious! We had two "boats" - The Taos and The Yucatán. Man!! So much goodness to be had, prepared healthfully, presented beautifully and enjoyed immensely. The coconut rice, plantains, chorizo, onions, peppers, veggies, cheezes, all melded perfectly into each and every savory bite. Kudos, too, for the exceptionally good service - no easy task and quite the feat, given the full house and line out the door. But it's easy to see why there are crowds gathering here. Coyote Kitchen has it going on and everyone knows it. We will definitely be back the next time we travel to Boone. read more

Excellent place for a quick meal, especially if you have dietary restrictions. They offer numerous gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan items. Plus the items are customizable to meet your preferences. We stopped here for a late lunch and were immediately seated. Masks are required until you are sitting at your table. All employees are wearing masks. Seating is available inside and outside. Dogs are no longer allowed. Upon sitting down, we were greeted by our waitress who also brought us water. We had viewed the menu ahead of time so we immediately placed orders for appetizers and entrees. For appetizers, we ordered chips n salsa sampler and nachos deluxe. The pineapple habanero salsa was my favorite. Soon after, we received our entrees. I decided on the Sedona bowl. It was spicy, flavorful, and satisfying. We finished our meal by sharing two slices of their tasty gluten-free cakes, the blueberry sour cream and cookie dough. I liked the cookie dough cake. The flavor, especially the cookie dough part, is delicious! It does fall apart (similar to other gluten-free desserts) and the frosting is gritty. We ordered take out while passing through town.. the fish tacos were good expect they mislabeled the to go boxes and my husband ended up eating the ones with the spicy sauce and got very sick :( the mixed vegetables were soggy and over sauced... and the sweet potato fries were just gross- we didn't even bother eating them we them out instead. The burger was ok. What upset me most is the girl asked me if I needed to go utensils and I said yes- but she never bothered to put it in the bag... not even a napkin!!!!! so we couldn't properly eat our food since we were traveling.... waist of $50... worth meal we had during the entire trip!! read more
