Worst service I've ever experienced in my life . Usually go to bass pro hard to be worse . Went in last week with two rods and two guys helped me and were amazing don't know there names taller larger man and a shorter dark skinned guy awesome . They explained that bass pro has out way to heavy of a line on my rods so I said ok and rods have worked great . Went in two days ago with two different rods lighter rods and a younger kid who knew far less about fishing proceeded to out the same weight which I was told was to heavy on my even lighter rods . He assured me that was ok after I told him my experience . Went fishing both rods malfunction almost right away line getting knotted and tangling up around the end of my rod making it impossible to reel in, in turn in fishable . Went in today to explain the situation and the same kid is there and either the owner or some older man who has been helpful in the past . I can see the kid laughing at me as I'm telling them it's to heavily of a line and the older guy giving attitude saying I'm talking over him and that nothing is wrong with the line when all I was doing was explaining my situation . How is nothing wrong with the line if you can't fish with it ?????I'm a less than experienced angler and to go into a place and be made fun of and given attitude because of my situation is crazy . I would not recommend this place to any one I know due to my experience today absolutely insane and probably the reason everyone just goes to bass pro . They might be less knowledgeable but at least they treat you with respect when simply asking questions . read more

Customer service was amazing! The only reason I caught anything my first time, super helpful, even showed me some local spots!!!

The AMAZING customer service is enough to keep coming back. Fair prices and the fact that this place has been in business for over 50 years says it all! Denice made our trip and is super knowledgeable on all things fish and bait!! Thank you Coyote Bait! Customer for life! read more

We were recommended this shop by another fishing group at Calero Lake. This place is amazing and the service is top notch. We went in to see if we could get our kids line replaced on his kiddy fishing pole. The worker said it needs to be done by hand and I was hesitant to do it at home as I am not too knowledgeable on reels and fishing. The work (not sure his name but he has a beard) asked if we had the rod on us. We did and he took care of the entire process himself. He was amazing and I am so thankful. He also didn't charge us much as he used some general line and it saved us a bunch of money. Thank you Coyote Bait and Tackle! Recommended for anyone in the San Jose Area. They also sell ribs on Fridays. Free hooks as you exit the store. read more

Excellent spot. One of the few local places where hunting/fishing licenses and related can be purchased, and with next to no wait! Nice guys. Good place to buy live bait and not have to drive to San Jose or Gilroy. Good selection of poles, bait, and tackle. read more

The staff working there are really nice! I have zero fishing experience and wanted to go crab snaring, and the person who helped me out (didn't get his name) was very patient and answered all my questions, got me set up with the right equipment (and even helped tie all the bits to the rod so I'm ready to start crabbing right away) and taught me to tie the hook/rig if I wanted to switch to fishing. The customer experience is definitely worth visiting this shop, and I got lots of equipment that were deal worthy. Highly recommend to anyone! Their shop is quite large and has lots of equipment. read more

Amazing customer service, prices that are comparable to anywhere else and TONS of gear. I haven't fished in a long time and decided I wanted to pick it back up and get some quality gear. I talked with Alex and I believe the owner, I didn't catch her name, but both of them were awesome and very helpful and full of knowledge that helped me make my purchases. Not once did I feel pressure to buy any one item or pick from their preferred brand. Can't wait to get out and put the new gear to use. I will be back for all my future purchases. read more

Had a good selection for reels and they hand great rods. Ended up spending more than $300 within 30mins. Only set back was when I asked to compare 2 lures behind the counter and the clerk Josh said I could only see one at a time. After spending $300 bucks at a store, the customer service was not there. read more

Alright, here we are a couple years later. I still drive to the shop exclusively. The staff still kicks ass. I've made a ton of friends through this awesome place. Denise the owner, has an eye for hiring charismatic staff who will jump at the chance to help out and put you on fish. The selection is still better than everywhere in the area. Always up to date with the new fad baits that we are always dying to see. If they don't have it, they can probably order it. I've warrantied multiple rods through the shop with no headache, which in my opinion is much easier than having to contact an online retailer and ship a broken rod back. All in all, it's still refreshing to go to a shop, that is as passionate about fishing as I am. Keep being awesome CBT read more

Last of the bait shops in the Bay Area. Staff is great very helpful. Big box stores have nothing compared to this place. From lakes to ocean they got it all no wasted weird colors or unproven lures they only stock things that work. Don't waste your time or money go to Coyote Bait and Tackle. read more

This is a pretty decent fishing store, but it's location makes it somewhat limiting. It is located on Monterey Highway between South San Jose and Morgan Hill. The gear they carry is primarily for trout and bass, which is what the surrounding lakes contain. I would not go out of my way to shop at this store, as there are others closer stores carrying the same selection. The only time I make it down there is during their Spring Sale when they have some exceptional buys. I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Bass Pro who? Before you run down to the new Big Box tackle store, check out this local gem. The staff is knowledgeable and they are willing to solve your problem. They don't push the expensive rod & reel combo or exotic lure. Even before walk out of that store you will either have (or know what you need) catch anything from bass to catfish to sea perch. Even the few college age kids at Coyote know their stuff. On my last visit, Paul helped me figure out what line, leader, and bait I needed for perch. Today, I caught more in four hours then I had in my last four trips. Prices are good too. read more

New to fishing? Go to Coyote Bait and Tackle and ask the guys for advice there! They're based in the Anderson/Coyote area. Once a year they have a HUGE sale! They sell live as well. Most of the guys are young and great at giving advice. They also fish the surrounding lakes so can tell you exactly what bait, rod, and reel to use. Also what style is currently working for the masses. Other than that, I guess you can watch YouTube tutorials. Don't miss it as you're zooming down Monterey Rd. It's a petite little store to the right in 55mph or so zone. read more

This morning I went to Coyote Bait and Tackle to buy my son-in-law some basic fishing supplies for a birthday gift. He's not an experienced fisherman and I needed a lot of guidance. I was helped by Greg. Lucky me! He was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He took time to show me what hook went with what worm. We put together a great backpack full of different fishing items. He didn't try to oversell me. He wrote down good YouTube channels to watch and talked about local fishing spots. Needless to say I walked out of there happy with his service. Thanks, Greg! read more
