My wife has long sang the praises of Coyo Taco from her days of frequenting the Wynwood location when she worked nearby. Time after time I'd tell her how south Florida has no good tacos, or good Mexican food period. I mean, I'm the guy who had declared that California and South Texas are the only places in this country doing tacos justice. Well, I was wrong. There....i said it ! The tacos at Coya are nothing short of spectacular! They offer a vast number of variations, from chicken and steak to pork and fish, and even duck. Vegetarian? The options are plentiful. As much as I enjoyed the carne asada and the beautiful batter of the fish taco. Tacos with sweet plantain as the main protein? Super creative!! But the Al pastor is the undisputed champion. Tender, juicy, an explosion of flavor. Easily top 3 taco I've ever had. And this coming from someone who doesn't really normally highly rate Al pastor! Ok sure, I can admit I was wrong. Like so sorry we interrupted your chat and you have to walk down here and take our order. The person was not friendly AT ALL. I realized he was also the one making the food so we just ordered a beer and a margarita and left. I thought maybe a language barrier or something but while watching other interactions, the staff did not seem happy. The tables were sticky and disgusting although the restaurant was not full. The service and cleanliness of this restaurant are among the worst I've seen. We had all finished eating when they decided to finally deliver the last meal that we were waiting for, about 10 minutes after the others were delivered. THE WORST BIRTHDAY EVER I had an incredibly disappointing experience with Coyo Taco - Coral Gables. I had booked their venue for my birthday party, but they canceled the event just 30 minutes before it was supposed to start. This left me scrambling to find another place to host my guests at the last minute. The event was planned for April 12th, 2025. I visited the location on April 5th to get the manager's information. I proceeded to contact Ms. Steffani Maduro on April 8th via phone calls and text messages. After multiple calls and texts, she replied on April 9th asking for the number of guests and time. I immediately replied with the information and never heard back from her. Since she was not responding with a confirmation I decided to personally go to the location. I met with her, and she verbally said that I did not need to worry, just to arrive at 10 pm. 9:34 p.m. on April 12th, she texted me that she had just realized that there was a private event. WOW.... Management: Steffani Maduro was extremely unprofessional, inattentive, and unresponsive. Despite multiple attempts to reach out and plan professionally, there was no effort made to assist. Service: The lack of communication and support from the staff was appalling. Their indifference added to the stress of an already difficult situation, making what should have been a joyous occasion into a frustrating and sad experience. Overall, Coyo Taco - Coral Gables and Steffani Maduro failed miserably in providing even basic customer service. I would strongly advise against relying on them for any important events. But they forgot the red onion :( The pollo was disappointing, they were almost stone cold, not sure if they didn't have the right temperature working bc the other tacos were warm and perfect. The taco Tuesday specials were right next to the register and I was pointing to it as I was ordering. The cashier didn't ring in the promotional price. I had to ask her what was up with my total and say Taco Tuesday. It was awkward and she acted like she had the promo added the whole time. Crunchy, to be honest. And listen, it's 12:30am, I get it. So I kindly asked the staff if they mind tasting the rice to help me replace my bowl if they found the same issue. LOL, their response was that Coyo Taco's concept is "al dente" rice and the undercooked strategy is on purpose. ok sounds good. Never heard of Al dente rice in my life.
