Absolute worst cable company to deal with, and that sets a pretty low bar. The service is crappy, but most annoying is the almost non-existent customer service. They are rude, not knowledgeable, and pretty much guaranteed to screw up your service (and bill) if you try to change anything. And God forbid that you are on a plan and try to add something, and then decide you don't need it so you want to switch back to what you had. They will tell you this is impossible to do at the same price, even though with the prior plan you were guaranteed that price for at least one year. Example. I had a plan that cost $160 per month including internet, cable and phone. This price was guaranteed from June 2020 to June 2021. In November, I decided I wanted to add the sports package so I could watch a football game. This should have cost only $5-$10 per month extra. But I was told, no, I have to switch to a different package, which will make my bill $230 per month. Having no choice, I said okay. Then, the football game I wanted to watch wasn't even on the sports channels, even though Cox had been advertising that it would be. So I called a week later and asked to switch back to what I had a week ago. First person did not know what she was doing, and she canceled all of my TV stations and downgraded my internet. So I immediately called again, and got someone who at least knew how to put the package back so I would get the same internet service and TV channels, but she hung up before telling me what the price was. Since she put everything back to where it was, I presumed the price would be the same. But no, when I received my bill last week it was for $185 instead of $160. So, I call again, and after being on hold for about 20 minutes, I get a jerk of a customer service person who keeps talking over me and telling me that I cannot get the lower price because my discount "expired." I ask how can that be, when I was previously guaranteed that price for at least one year (only six months ago). She says because when I changed plans (which was the only way to add the sports package), my discount "expired." The customer service rep was extremely rude, and constantly talked over me, never letting me finish a comment or question. So I asked for a supervisor. She said, in a rude manner "fine." Then she put me on hold, and after 45 minutes of being on hold with no connection to a supervisor, I finally hung up. I would gladly switch to a different service, because these guys definitely do not deserve the business, but there is no other option where I live. This is what happens when we allow monopolies. I have a second home in L.A., and the contrast between service is amazing. With Cox, you need to call every year to "renegotiate" your price and there is a disconnect charge if you cancel before the end of your next year of service. In L.A., there is no contract, no disconnect fee, and I get way more channels for less money. And if someone needs to come to your house, they give you a ONE HOUR window, and they show up on time. This is for a company that used to be horrible (Time Warner/Spectrum) but which completely revamped the way it does business once competition arrived from AT&T and Verizon. We need some competition like this in the Phoenix area. Otherwise, Cox will continue to plod along with subservice and outrageous prices. read more
