Had the opportunity to go to this place for the first time. I liked the large bar and I thought the staff was very personable. We sat at the bar and ordered appetizers. The food was brought to us quickly and were tasty. I do have to say that I would not recommend bringing children along as this establishment in my opinion is a bit more bar than it is restaurant, which is just fine. read more

How do you screw up a burger and a salad but the Otsego, MN location did. Some staff seemed like they cared about their customers but witnessed the manager Chris Sassen socializing with tables on the deck and smoking more than working. Our server was great but was slow bringing us our drinks because the bar staff seemed untrained and not supported by management; managers were too busy to help out taking care of the customers. Like others my husband and I have been unimpressed. The food is...ok. I've had their Glen free pizza a couple of times. It has been decent to terrible depending on the attentiveness of the cook. (Burnt and dried up garlic cloves? Yea....not so much.) The last time we went the waitress got my husband's (easy) order wrong. She didn't apologize, but took the platecto go fix it. Then came the terribly long wait. So we had to chase her. STILL no apology. When my husband asked for some kind of compensation for the wrong order and wait she went to the manager (or so she said) and came back empty handed. We won't be eating there again. If we want to just grab a drink and see a band sometime, we might stop back. But NOT for food. read more

We came in with a group on a busy Sunday. The host/manager was so very accommodating. He made sure that our group always had what we needed. Other wait staff checked on us as well. The food was good. A few people had the Sunnies and said they were delicious. One party had the scorpion wings, they are a peppery dry rub that builds. But still, if you like spice - don't be afraid. Lots worth a try. We also had a little puppy that we couldn't leave in the car and they brought us water for her on the patio. Glad we stopped. read more

This place is good!! Waited for about 15 minutes on a Thursday night, so not bad at all! Service was quick and friendly, although our server was training in someone, and the new girl messed up our order a little bit, but I don't blame her at all! The manager got everything taken care of (wasn't even a big deal anyways-just a small accidental up charge). Both servers were friendly. I had one of the flatbreads, and it was incredible! I have been to this restaurant three times and have had excellent service all three times. I always order the buffalo chicken wrap because I love it! The staff is super friendly, respectful and accommodating, we have never had a problem. They get pretty packed on the weekend, however, so expect a wait. Tuesday, got there about 5:00pm. Great waitress, but that's the best part. I ordered the braised 1/2 chicken. I think it was left over as it was dry! So were the mashed potatoes. My wife got the Cowboy Burger, she wasn't impressed. I had to have a few Stella's to wash the dry chicken down at $6 a piece during happy hour. Do yourself a favor, go over on the other side of the highway to Rockwood's. You will have a better meal and a better happy hour by far! read more

We've tried Cowboy Jack's twice now and we will definitely not be going back. The first time we were there, I ordered a hamburger and tater tots. When our food came, the tater tots were so grease laden that they fell apart if you touched them. Just a big sopping pile of oil. So gross. I alerted the waitress and she took them away. They offered to make me fries or some other side, but by that point I really didn't trust anything from their fryer so I declined and opted for just my burger instead. I was told they would be taken off our bill. When we got our bill, they took off $1. One whole dollar discount for basically half the food I ordered being inedible. We decided last night to give them one more shot. This time my husband ordered a hamburger and french fries and I tried their tater tot hotdish. This time his french fries were really greasy and soft. The tater tots on my tater tot hodish were good, but that was the only part of it that I could eat. The meat and vegetable mixture was so thick and sticky I couldn't even get it off the spoon. It tasted "off" as well. By that point I was really kind of over this place and didn't bother sending it back. I thought maybe the waitress would notice that we asked for our bill and neither of us had hardly touched our food, but she didn't say a word, didn't ask how any of it was, nothing. In addition to sub-par food, the food is way over priced. We ended up spending over $50 for two adults each time we went there. We will not be going back. We can get much better food at much more reasonable prices elsewhere in Elk River. read more

Had the misfortune of ending up at this derelict establishment this past weekend. This review is only in regards to the atmosphere and management. So it's a Saturday night, and I'm on a party bus with a group of people. Somehow we wind up here (we started in Minneapolis). Anyways I don't know who the idiot was that decided we should come out to Otsego a.k.a. field field barn field field. This place was similar to a ghost town, not only in the sense that no one was there, but the décor was that of barn from the 1900's. My biggest complaint though stems from a very silly situation. So my girlfriend decides country music at 1:00AM is not getting the job done so we notice a juke box type thing. She puts a dollar and it tries to play a song, no luck. She puts another dollar in, same thing. So I decide alright maybe it because there is karaoke going on in the far corner (no one was currently singing) and go to find someone to discuss this issue with. By the time I find someone I notice my girlfriend is already talking to what may be a manager, so I walk up to them. Before I even say anything this clown tells me "Bro, you're not helping her get her money back", Okay? I stand in silence, and again I am reminded that I am not helping her get the money back. Upon repeating himself he explains it must not be working (as if he didn't really know) because of the karaoke and hesitantly pulls two dollars out of a register and hands them to us. SO there I was, sitting at the bar. Cowboy Jacks is a horribly boring and unoriginal place it turns out, I have never been there before. I was hungry. So I go for lunch and sit at the empty bar. The guy at the end eating peanuts is already three sheets to the wind and pretends he runs the place. After dodging him I take a seat. No Bartender to be seen, anyplace. One waitress talking to her friends at a table in the back, a person who appears to be a manager is ignoring me as well as she can. I sat there for 10 minutes listening to the completely predictable muzak before getting up and leaving, never to return. We (group of four adults) went to Cowboy Jack's on a Saturday night around 7:30 pm. There was a 30 minute wait - there really is not a lot of seating inside. The atmosphere was casual and the background music was at a comfortable level so it was easy to have a conversation. There were a number of families with younger children eating dinner. We were seated at a table with three chairs - had to request a fourth chair. The waitress was prompt and friendly. One of our friends, upon the recommendation of our server, ordered the tater tot hot dish - he said it was wonderful. I ordered the broiled walleye - sadly, it was terrible. It had a strong "fishy" taste - I know, I know ... it is fish, but this was so bad I could not eat it. The manager was very professional and handled the circumstance in a more-than-fair manner. I ordered a hamburger instead. A gentleman playing acoustic guitar filled the bar with various genres of music - mainstream enough for any crowd. The atmosphere was pleasant; the service was good; but the food (at least the walleye) was not palatable. The hamburger was ok. I would come back for live music and drinks, but would probably eat dinner elsewhere. read more

First impression upon reading the menu was that the food was a bit over priced. It was also rather loud in the restaurant. We ordered the appetizer of corn bread since it was a happy hour special. It was good, and we had plenty to take home. The meals were mediocre. Kids steak bites were cooked right. Kids did not like the fries because they were steak fries. I ordered the caprese flatbread. It was extremely disappointing. There were small diced tomatoes and regular shredded mozzarella cheese. I truly expected large slices of tomato and slices of fresh mozzarella. This looked slapped together and was not worth the $. Hubby had cheesesteak and said there was nothing special about it and felt it was overpriced for a sandwich. read more

This place always looks busy so thought it was worth a try - was our first time there and will be our last. Service was lousy - our server wasn't able to answer questions we had about them menu and didn't seem interested in getting answers for us. My husband had the rib-eye and I had the walleye, supposedly sauteed. Steak was overcooked; walleye was over-salted. Server told us the vegetable of the day was cauliflower with some other vegs; there was no cauliflower to be found in the mainly pepper mix. Server never came back to check on us; we had to grab another server to get our drinks refilled. Our check indicated two charges of $.25 for 'sour' - our server didn't know what this was for and didn't offer to check on it. Very disappointing food and service. read more

I came here with my family for Mother's Day. The food was slapped together and the service was terrible. They don't show any care for their mistakes and no one smiled. We waited an hour for our food, which wasn't even right and the correct food had to be asked for multiple times! I highly recommend that you go somewhere else!!! read more

We have eaten here several times. The first time the service was not great. We gave them a second chance and the service was great as well as the food. We recently took our friends there to celebrate a birthday. We arrived at 5pm and seated at our table at 6pm. The waitress Kaiten was awful! We asked for water twice and never received them. She got our drink orders wrong and the only person she asked if they wanted another drink was my husband, even though we all had empty glasses. My husband had to leave our table and go the bar to get our waters and drinks. We never saw her again after our food was delivered to our table. read more

Epic Fail for a Birthday Dinner! Called Cowboy Jack's to make a dinner reservation for 10 people only to find out they don't take reservations via phone - you have to email a lady within the parent company @theaftermidnightgroup. After 2 emails and 2 phone calls we thought we were set for dinner at 6 pm. Showed up at the restaurant with all 10 people and were told we did not have a reservation. Not only did we not have a reservation, there were no tables available for at least 40 minutes. As we looked about the dining room we see 2 ladies sitting at a table which we could have used if the staff would explain the situation to the ladies and offer them the nice comfy booth right next to their table. No, we were told - the company "frowns upon" switching guests table. These ladies weren't in the middle of eating - they only had drinks in front of them. The two square tables would have easily fit the 10 of us, but instead of offering the ladies a booth, they stupidly turned away a party of 10. Needless to say we won't be back to a restaurant run by a bunch of millennials who don't know how to make even the simplest business decision when it was clearly their fault in the first place that we didn't have a reservation. Great patio atmosphere. Fish taco are yummy. However if your waitstaff cannot list every single beer you have then you need a beer list. Server stated "the boss here doesn't like beer lists." On three different occasions the bar tender started bitching about how hard hard she she worked the night before and how she wasn't in the mood for anyone's crap and so on. And I was sitting there with customers around me.I was at the bar the manager just served a couple of beers put my hand up a couple times and he just served other customers. I left. I used to spend around $500.00 a month there. I cannot believe the owners let there employees treat customers that way. Met family and friends at Cowboy Jacks today in Ostego, MN and had one of the worst experiences. We had a table of 7 and right away I sensed the waitress had an attitude issue when we ordered our drinks. After ordering food and drinks we would see the server for 15 min and yes it was that long. We watched the Wild play the Stars and timed it by the game. We ended up asking another server for assistance to find our server. Anyway horrible night and then when my daughter called to talk with the manager, she was told by the manager that the server claimed they all were gambling and servers to not go the patrons when they are at the gambling table. She reminded her that 2 people were gambling while 5 were at the table. I did not gamble and could only remember seeing the server 2x when a 25 min period. That is something I don't like to deal with. If you having a bad day leave in the back and do your job with a smile. If you customers are disrespectful, report to your manager. But when your server is lacking in her job and the manager backs that, then that is a place I will not be attending and it will be told to friends and family as well. Good atmosphere and always had a good time and great cornbread. But not a place I need to be when I can pickup from the start that the server had an issue with people who came their to eat, drink and gamble a little with no craziness from anyone except getting our server to attend to us when it was busy on a cold and snowy night. read more

The servers here are not friendly save for one or two of them. Each time I've sat at the bar, I get the impression from all but one dark haired bartender that they are just too cool to be concerned with the patrons. The food is average for the area, so when I go to a bar and grill, I expect better service than what Cowboy Jacks provides.
