Two of us decided to try the new restaurant (the former Steak and Ale) on a weekday lunch. We were greeted with "are you eating here???? " (followed by a hardened look as if what are you doing here); this was followed by a big sigh. The hostess took us over to literally the far end of the restaurant (the restaurant is HUGE) next to the bar. It was a less than ideal table to have for lunch. The food was horrible and the service was very inattentive and we felt like we were putting all these employees out. I did not care for the Texas ranch decor; however, my guest loved it. So to each their own. After we told our server that we were done. She looked strangely at our uneaten food and finally had to realize that we did not like the food (she never asked). When she did -- we told her we didn't care for the food at all. She quickly said "I'll get the manager" and ran off. We did not want to talk to the manager; nor did we want to wait any longer. Instead, we had to deal with the manager who was extremely defensive about the food and how everybody loves it. I personally think this place is a joke and it is meant for those who want to drink and have a good time watching a game or somebody riding "the bull" in the center of the restaurant. Recap: Food - -horrible. REALLY horrible. Service - WORSE than the food. Needless to say nobody said goodbye to us as we walked out. They obviously could care less about what we thought of them. WOW!!!! And those words don't even come close to how amazed I am at Cowboy Jacks Bloomington location. I contacted them about doing a benefit there for my friends son how has brain tumors or NF. My first interaction was with a very kind and beautiful women named Lacey. She was so warm, and interested in our event. She gave me Misha's card and told me to contact her. A few days later I met Misha and was blown away by her kindness, excitement to be apart of this event. She was willing to work with us in so many ways to accommodate our needs. I had been EVERYWHERE in the city trying to find a location and I felt instantly at home and peace picking CJ. Day of the servers Jenn and Maddy were amazing, so kind, high energy, so quick to make sure our guests were happy. The whole staff at CJ was involved in our event. They have huge hearts and welcomed all of "Adam's Army" (our nickname) They went above and beyond what I EVER could have imagined a restaurant would do. Our friends little boy is fighting for his life and CJ is now a part of that family. I highly recommend working with these amazing people. I've been here 3 times and never had a "positive" experience. Mostly neutral experiences which is tolerable. However after being a customer for 4 hours and then asking for a glass of water and being told by a snotty brunette bartender "I don't have time for that" seals the deal that I will never go back. Stopped in from out of town based on a suggestion from a hotel we were staying at. Called ahead as we wanted to see a specific game on TV. Was reassured that we could see it. Got seated right away with a TV in the booth even. After ordering were told we couldn't see the game and that the channel they would put on would show some of the game. That didn't actually happen and we were disappointed feeling stuck to stay to get our ordered food and not being able to see the game when we could have gone elsewhere. The food was good. The waitress was pretty attentive. Just not the greatest experience. read more

came in with my boyfriend willing to try a new restaurant, and left with no desire to ever come back. everyone was so nice there! except for our server.. i saw her maybe a total of three times max? she got us waters, took our order, and asked if we needed anything else in total of seeing her. when the food arrived, only my boyfriend got his, and when mine came out, it wasn't hot and was missing mayo. the person who brought our food out had to also refill our waters because our server had disappeared. it wasn't a big deal to me, but we couldn't find anyone to get help for anything else and to get the mayo we wanted, and everyone we saw and tried to flag down just sped past us. finally we caught our serving cleaning a table, so we asked her for my mayo, and 10-15 go by, and still nothing. then she came back and asked if we needed a box, and i told her just my mayo, but still had to wait a while. by that time, my food was freezing. we paid and left. she was very rude when i reminded her of my mayo as well. definitely not a great experience, and it doesn't help that the party across from us was screaming profanities and were extremely obnoxious. read more

It's not that I had high expectations, but the food was a level below my memories of cafeteria school lunches. I can't remember if one of the items we had was supposed to be pizza or cheese bread, but it more resembled cardboard and...well I can't think of what to compare the cheese to...definitely not cheese though. read more

I was here last night for a party for my brother. Our server, Tanya, took excellent care of us. Always making sure we had enough drinks and food. There private room was perfect for our event. There was a little issue with the volume on the TV, but it was quickly resolved by the staff. There were about 15 kids in our group. The highlight of thier night was getting to ride the bull. The staff was awesome with them, even though the kids got a little crazy at times. I will keep them in mind for gatherings in the future. read more

Great Happy Hour, Food ok, Parking Sucks. They have a great Happy Hour but, don't expect to arrive at 5pm and find parking. As has been mentioned in prior reviews towing was continuous as the party of 5 of us arrived one by one, people noticed tow trucks actively towing (note to self start a towing company). Some of the office buildings you can get by with parking at (can't name them) and if you don't mind walking Rainbow. I pulled up to Vallet and asked what my chances are of finding parking seeing 6 cars continuously going around in circles, they said slim to none. He pointed at a spot saying, 'thier's one' I get to it and a motercycle decided not to park with the other 20 motercycles. I figured I could give it a little shove turn it around and they would assume it was the other guy that did it but, I saw someone walking out to his car, the chase was on, going 50mph through the parking lot I was able to secure a parking spot (oh happy hour begins in 1 minute as I write this, tempting, very tempting). Everyone else walked. I arrived a bit after 5 valet was entirely full of cars waiting to be valet'd.. Okay, I arrived 45 minutes early to secure a table for 6, their were another 5-8 open for dinner (we were just doing apps and drinks but, it was about as quiet as I could get). Ordered a $2 Summit, and then coasted on a little jar of iced tea for the rest of the night (until 8:30pm). We ordered 5 apps at half off, the dry rub chicken wings were recommended, I can make better. Oh well they have 4 other varieties to try. The Calamari was also recommended to me but, if they got it wrong it would be rubber hose so we had the chicken bbq sliders, fish taco's, quesadilla's, I forgot the other one. 4 of 5 people made it before 6 and stocked up on happy hour $2 taps. It's loud, I like the place's open layout, free peanut's, community urinal trough in the mens room (don't cross the streams!!) no I don't use them because you basically get splattered with your pee and two other guys which is just not cool, even the one urinal is too close. Did I mention on the way back remind the person going to the restroom to grab a dish of free peanuts? At some point I will be going back to see if they can cook. I only tried mostly fried foods and it was all 'ok', I could easily do better at home. Can't comment on the other food. I am not sure I would be willing to spend my own money on a dinner given the risk. Next business lunch/dinner maybe? read more

One of my favorite places to eat, but very disappointed in the service today. Waitress asked if I wanted a refill of my beverage, she took my glass and never came back with my beverage. Asked for no olives on my nachos but there were olives on them. When I brought it to her attention she replied "oh, sorry" but I think she meant it as in "sorry, not sorry" with no mention of giving me a new meal or taking any money off the bill. read more

Good happy hour specials and some of the food is hit or miss. All the free peanuts you can eat as well as a mechanical bull for those daring enough. It is a large place but on the weekends seating can be hard to find. They do have a few private rooms but they shut them down around midnight. The buffalo chicken pizza has been both good and okay. I sat at the bar and ordered the rib eye with tots and a Caesar salad. The service left a lot to be desired as it took nearly an hour to get my order...and it wasn't that busy. The salad and the entrée arrived at the same time. The salad had way too much dressing and the tots were cold. To their credit the manager did see I got another salad (with dressing on the side this time) and some fresh tots. It was an average meal at best. read more

Ehhh... I've definitely had better. I came here for lunch with some work colleagues and was certainly not impressed. We shared the queso dip and I had the buffalo chicken wrap. The queso was completely over salted (i wouldn't be surprised if it was melted velveta cheese) and my wrap was completely lacking in flavor. March 2, 2013: My wife wanted a steak for supper, and I'm not one to contradict a good steak. I'm usually not a picky eater or critic of restaurants...I have friends who I almost don't want to spend an evening eating out with because all they do is pick apart restaurants, the servers, and the food, etc. I once was with a friend who sent back his lasagna 3 times because it had a cool spot in the middle of the dish. My thought was "just eat the stupid thing and get over your misery." However, I do like to read reviews, and occasionally like to share my experience to "pay it forward" if I can for others. But, generally speaking, I'm not a picky eater and I just tell it the way I see it without unjustly blowing my experience(s) out of proportion. I had read the reviews for Cowboy Jacks in Bloomington earlier in the day (we live a mere mile away but had never been there in the few years since it opened). I had to chuckle because the comments about not being able to read the menu are true...neither my wife or I could hardly read the menu...a lot to do more with the font style I think, but it was black print on brown glossy fold-open menu in a low-lit environment. We even noted one table over, 2 ladys were using a small flashlight to read their menu. Appetizer wings were good...had the chili garlic wings...approximately a dozen wings which is a fair price at $9 price and I'd order them again. I didn't understand the "mile high" thing as explained on the menu...the wings were simply laid out on a plate with celery and a small dish of blue-cheese. We both ordered a RIBEYE steak...and while I don't know the weight of the ribeye (wasn't on menu, or I couldn't read it if it was), we both had the baked potato and the vegetables. Potato's were average, but only came with 1 small butter packet (no sour cream). The plate came with a mixed-veggie combo of cauliflower, carrots, green beans and asparagus. They were about half-cooked so you could still enjoy some of the crunchy texture which is how I like my veggies, but some may not. STEAK: Our ribeyes were bigger than I expected (but as a $22 plate, I shouldn't have been surprised either) and included the rib bone. Taste: Overall they were OK. What kept me from saying "this is a wonderful steak" was the fact that if you've ever grilled a steak and had a big flare up on your grill, you know what it can do to your steak. You know...when you get that resulting coating of flare-up suet on your meat. Our steaks both kind of had that "flare up residue-y" flavor. It kind of takes away from the primary meat flavor. I noticed my wifes' steak was about half-covered by that dark black residue-type appearance you might get from a flare up. I also had to chuckle because I was cutting my meat with their big steak knife and noticed it wasn't the sharpest knife I've used to cut a steak. Then, part way through her steak, my wife commented that she thought the knife could be a little sharper. Would I order a steak again? Well, at $22 for a steak, I guess I'd expect a little more quality. Other than the slight taste distraction, it wasn't bad. There was no pre-meal bread or salad or anything like other restaurants might provide. I will comment that it was a slightly larger than average quantity of veggies that you might expect on a steak plate so I give them that. Perhaps next trip I'll just go for more wings, and maybe a good burger. Not sure that I'd go for another steak...unless the price drops a little, or they can add a salad and some sour cream for the potato. Without the flare-up flavor on the steak, I think then the price would be more warranted for what you get. Environment: Yep, all open large (almost auditorium) atmosphere and noise to go with it. If you're out for a good time, some drinks, and some chow, go for it. If you want a quieter atmosphere, still enjoy an average steak and a beer, then your local Applebees' (or similar) is still a good option. Oh, tried to get a drink at the bar just before happy hour ended when we first arrived, but there's no convenient way to step up to the bar without pushing aside others seated at the bar, and I think a few more bartenders would have helped too. I ended up getting frustrated after trying to get at the bar at a few locations while trying to make it obvious I was interested in ordering, and simply wasn't able to get a a beer in time for happy hour ending. SERVER: Abbey, and she was great. Always had a nice smile, attentive, and very pleasant. I'd recommend her if you go for sure. read more

I have liked their food in the past but went there Thursday night with a friend and the lettuce in the salad tasted stale and freezer burned! On Friday night a friend wanted to order takeout from there again the lettuce in the salad tasted old and like it had picked up refrigerator freezer burn taste! Came here on a Thursday night. They had a live band which was playing your typical crowd pleasing tunes. Service was a little slow but due to the crowd, I can understand. I was trying to arrange a gathering for 12-15 co-workers and I called to see if I could reserve a room about 5 days in advance. I left my name and number with the receptionist 3 times and she assured me the manager would call me. No one ever returned my call. I then stopped by in person and the place was a total zoo! No parking to be had and about a 1000 people running around like crazy. As you'd expect...they were full. Will only call them as a last resort in the future. read more

I been to this place before Covid. Now I remember why I don't go back. We winner there tonight with a party of three. Walking into the restaurant I used the restroom. It was trashed garbage everywhere. I told the host stand that the restrooms needed attention. He said no way I just cleaned them 15 minutes ago. I went to my table. Sever was pleasant beat part of the night. I then ordered the BBQ Brisket Sandwich. Wife had a Blue Burger and friend had a Ruben. My Brisket came out Shredded and VERY dry on a cold bun. Who shreds a Beautiful piece of meat like a brisket and does not show the slow cook to slice it. I had to have two beers just to choke it down. Wife's burger was so well done we thought it was a hockey puck. Friends Ruben. Ok. But ice cold. Food was horrible. I thought about saying something but did not. I got home I have tried to call 6 times and no answer. I hope this was just us and they will do better next time. They have lost a great Bloomington neighbor. The Dog S--- in my back yard is better. Started as a great night. Ended the night disputing an open tab. I was willing to pay a large majority of the tab, however refused to order drinks that I did not order. Upon saying we disputed the tab, the Bar staff attempted to strong arm our group into paying by refusing us entry into cowboy jacks in the future. They then resorted to threatening to write us a citation for not paying our full bill, which would have been preferable at this point. The local cop refused to write a citation and stated he did not want to get involved. They then ran a handful of cards multiple times, explained that they were all declined - when in fact they were reimbursing them self's the amount the ran it (see photo below of one of my baking statement). They then demanded i take cash out to pay. As I had been told out cards were declined, I humored them by showing it wouldn't work. When cash was dispensed, I pulled up my online banking to find that they had run each card and reimbursed each one multiple times for different amounts. As the total bill was $180, there were over a dozen charges for different amounts. Again, I offered to pay for the drinks we had actually ordered. The management staff then refused to let us leave and would not accept card payment. Wellsfargo called in the middle of this dispute to let me know that someone had run my card to the tune of $850 - I explained what was going on and Wells Fargo unfroze my card, in their words " for my safety" and called back roughly ten minutes later to allow me to dispute the charges which the cowboys staff ran after 45 minutes of our group disputing the issue. I understand that tabs get taken advantage of, the group I was with was as calm as we could be after being not allowed to leave for close to an hour. The overall handling and attempted strong arming of the situation was outrageous. Needless to say I won't be stepping back into this location again. read more

Cowboy Jack's - Ran credit cards multiple times and reimbursed - Bars Near Me - Bloomington, Minnesota

My family and I went to Cowboy Jack's in Bloomington, MN on Tuesday December 20th for dinner and drinks. Three out of four family members received food poisoning. The next day we talked to the manager on duty and they said they would call us back. Ten days later still no phone call. On December 30 I called again and the manager wanted to check into it. The manager called me back 3 hour later and said that there was no other complaints from that day. The manager said that we must have been getting sick and it had nothing to due with food poisoning. Hmm it's funny that the manager stated that the food inspector was there that same day. My advice is to go there for drinks and bingo only. I will never eat at this restaurant again. read more

I really like the cowboy feel, peanuts are always a plus for me. I had the dry rub wings, very good I really enjoyed the dry rub. It had plenty of flavor and the wings were meaty. Someone else at the table had the meatloaf sliders, WOW were those yummy!!! I'll have to hit the place on an evening to see how things pick up. Just didn't have a great time here with my friends. No peanuts on the patio, and the waitress was snappy because she thought she already told me that (not correct). The only good thing about the bingo they have is that you win money, other than it's so boring they would have to pay me to play it. The staff was ok, but just the whole night was off.
