She then said she had cancelled my appointment and I should have received a refund from groupon. I had received no refund or a phone call/email informing me of the cancellation. I was awestruck by the unprofessionalism. I feel that it's unfair for cancelling on someone because they don't want to receive other services at full price - it's a method of shaming a customer. I bought a groupon for balayage and all I wanted was a balayage. I can't write to her ability - I'm sure she's a fine hair stylist but she had treated me completely unprofessionally. I felt uncomfortable and the whole exchange caught me completely off guard.

She first offered me 11am, then changed it to 5pm -- I agreed to both just to be flexible. She confirmed the 5pm slot twice, including a message the day before. A day before, she messaged asking if I could come earlier due to another client rescheduling. I didn't see the message until about an hour before my appt., and I let her know I'd still be arriving at our agreed time. When I showed up, the salon was closed -- shades down, no answer on IG or by phone. About 30 minutes after the appointment time, she messaged saying she assumed I wasn't coming since I didn't reply earlier. But that's not how confirmed appointments work -- a request to change the time doesn't cancel the original slot unless it's confirmed by both sides. She later said she had an emergency and had to leave early -- and I completely understand that things happen. I also recognize that she's likely running a small business on her own and juggling a lot. But even so, clients' time should still be respected. A quick message or call to cancel before the appointment would've made all the difference. I was really looking forward to working with Coco. Unfortunately, the lack of communication and professionalism made this a disappointing experience.

I came in for a haircut and blonde highlights and left with yellow / orange tinted skunk streaks. The haircut which was just a shoulder length cut with layers (her suggestion) really just cleaning up ends was $45. That seems steep for what it was but whatever - the cut wasn't horrible although some layers in the back were too short for me. But the big problem is the highlights. Especially up top. I've never seen someone place foils the way she did but I tried to trust the process. She also did not use heat for my hair to process and that was the fatal mistake. The highlights are chunky and because heat wasn't used, the top highlights didn't fully lift and came out yellow orange. Immediately when she asked if I liked it I brought those concerns up. The worst part for me was the price. I asked in advance what the price range would be for highlights. She said $80-$250 depending on length and thickness. My hair was short (shoulder) and is VERY thin. She charged me $165 when that only took her an hour and 15 minutes including the processing time. In total for the cut and color $210. Even after I complained initially that I wasn't happy. When I told her that was a lot more than I expected especially considering I now have to pay someone else (I wouldn't trust her to do it) to fix the top - she discounted me $20 for a $190 total. If you're looking for quality this is not the place. I hope my photos clearly validate this experience. (Also - the place smelled very badly, like sewage had backed up).

During the appointment I pointed out that the ends of my locs were sticking out of some braids, she assured me she would fix it by the end of the appointment, she did not. My hair gets so easily tangled that I've given up on trying to brush it everyday. Although my hair is pretty dark, there was no shine and just looked dull. The process took just a little over an hour and immediately once Sarah started to blow dry my hair, there was already a significant difference. My hair right now is so silky, soft and the shine is just WOW. Now I know what they mean when they say glass hair. I can easily run my fingers through my hair and absolutely no tangles. I've gotten a Brazilian blowout before a year ago but it was nowhere near as shiny as this. The photos don't do justice! My hair had layers previously so it was kind of hard to get rid of all the split ends but she did the best she could and I'm beyond satisfied. Walked out that salon feeling like a brand new person! I left a voicemail and never received a call back. I called groupon and left a complaint as well as canceled and went elsewhere. It is unprofessional not to call someone back but even more unprofessional to make an appointment with someone on a day the facility is closed.
