I walked in to the salon the week before and showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted. Lots of layers, like a 70's shag. She ran her fingers through my hair and said okay leave the length with layers. We made an appointment for Tuesday. I showed up an hour early. My fault but she kindly took me anyway. She asked me what we were doing. I said cutting. She said are we trimming? Now to a non-hair stylist what is the difference between cutting and trimming? I asked. She told me are wer cutting length off. I said yes, to the shoulder would be okay, that is necessary we could go to the chin. We agreed to the neckline. I said with layers framing my face. I ended up with a 1960s Barbie bubble. A big round balloon around my head. No layers. She hadn't heard a word I said. I have to pull my hair down to reach my chin. I did ask her to put in layers which she did. The actual cut is fine. But not what I asked for. It will take 6 months or more to grow out enough to get what I want. So disappointed. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! I also want to preface that I never write Yelp reviews, but after such a positive experience I just had too! Due to Covid-19, like many others I hadn't had a haircut in months and well, let's just say I resorted to box dye for my roots ... so my hair was somewhat of a catastrophe! Skip to the bottom if you want to just know the tidbits about the hair ‍ Once, we moved into phase 2 and salons were allowed to open, I contacted my normal stylist in Puyallup and she seemed a little irritated, intense, and not too enthusiastic about booking clients again. I took this as the universes way of telling me to finally look for a new hairdresser, since I moved to Tukwila 2 years ago it was in theory good timing to find someone closer to home. Apparently, getting an appointment to get your hair done in a pandemic is like finding a golden ticket in a Wonka bar. Needless to say, in the beginning of June I was able to make an appointment at the beginning of JULY at a salon (not MiaBella)! Y'all I did a lot of research bc I have curly, dark, damaged...hair. Thankfully, Yelp led me to a couple close by options! The day my appointment was supposed to happen at 3:30pm, the salon I had made an appointment at called to cancel less than 2-hours before I was suppose to arrive...doesn't matter why, but they didn't think they could get me in until the following week . I was bummed, but I am pretty sure it was for the BEST... I had originally, really wanted try MiaBella in Normandy Park/Burien area and they reached back out with availability after I had booked the other place. When my appointment got cancelled at the other place I seized the opportunity to try out MiaBella, they had great reviews and had recommended Leah! THIS WAS THE BEST OVERALL HAIR EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD SINCE MOVING TO WASHINGTON! First, when I called in a total panic Leah answered the phone! She was super nice, and knew it would be hard to fit me in but did her best... her only open availability for what I wanted was the end of July... but I knew it'd be worth it! She even asked me to send pictures of my hair and what I wanted! You could just tell from the first 5-minutes of the phone convo Leah was going to be awesome! When I showed up for my appointment, I was not disappointed either! Leah was super friendly, it's a family owned salon Leah's mom was super kind as well and it was a totally welcoming environment! The salon was really nice, clean, and COVID-19 safety protocols were in full effect. Now for the important bits... I of course was like, "I need a change, I want to go lighter" Leah gave me great advice, and the best recommendation for MY hair considering the damage a la box dye! Many, stylists will fry your hair further, or not tell you realistic expectations...and at the end you are disappointed. Not here! Leah, was honest about what we could achieve and talked through a plan with me to try and combat my grays. Also, Leah should get 10-stars just for listening to me talk about my dog for 2-hours, and treating me like I actually mattered as a client BUT ALSO Y'ALL my hair came out so PRETTY! My hair felt healthier, looked shinier, and was so soft! Leah was attentive, her customer service was on-point, her hair skills were outstanding, and honestly the pricing was great! It was my first time coming here ever and although I heard great things about this place I never gave it a shot until now. I've never gone blonde and have been contemplating the past two years so I finally told myself that I was actually going to do it. I was honestly a little nervous because my trusting a complete stranger with my hair in hopes they'll understand what I want and how I want it. So I did my first session (left picture) a month ago, keep in mind that it's been a month since I got it done and this is what it looks like now. My hair turned out pretty light my first session and it was surprising to me and Leah since I have Asian dark hair. I didn't think it was possible for my hair to even go that light so quick considering it was my first time ever going blonde. But Leah did such an amazing job. I called first of course and made an apt and they took me right in which I really loved because most salons don't do that. So I was schedule with Leah and let me tell you, she's such an astonishing hairdresser! She really took her time to do my hair and it took about 4 - 5 hours! My hair isn't even long but she made sure I got what I wanted, how I wanted, and made sure the blonde wasn't that orangey color. She even touched up my roots when it got brassy. She's just an amazing hairdresser because of her personality and the effort she puts in to satisfy her customers. The second session (right picture) is from today, a month since my first session and I could not believe how light my hair was!! I mean could you believe it???? It really only took me two sessions just to go this blonde thanks to Leah. I made sure I got to see Leah again because of the fantastic job she did on my last session, I just had to go to her. Again, she took about four hours to do my hair and she really focused on going more blonde and lighter.She knew exactly what she was doing and how much product to use in my hair. When my hair was all foiled, she kept checking up on my hair and making sure everything was going good and also asking me if I'm doing okay etc. She touched up my roots again for the brassiness, toned my hair, and styled it! She's really such a caring person and wants you to feel comfortable while waiting for your hair to change color which I absolutely adore because most hairdressers don't really care. She even gave me a hair treatment, showed me all the products she uses, and showed me how to make my hair wavy which I think is a MAJOR PLUS in my opinion! Leah is such an amazing person and hairdresser. I'm so glad I found someone like her because she's out of this world. Leah and I instantly click and have sooo much in common. I love how we really got to know each other on a personal level because it really just shows that she's not only my hairdresser but also a friend! She's confident in what she does and she knows exactly what she's doing and how to do it. Her effort and time is more than anything I could ask for because when you're getting your hair done you really want to make sure they're not rushing and/or not caring about all the damage they're doing to your hair. But Leah cares and she's so honest and upfront which I really like because then I'm not expecting anything since she already told me what's going to happen etc. I'm so thankful that I've gone to her and I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone because of how great and wonderful she is. Everytime I come into the salon I know I'm going to get taken care of. Everyone is always so friendly and nice during every visit. I get my hair done by Leah and she's literally the best hairdresser I've ever had! I use to go to other salons and they would always tell me I was never able to get to a light color my first session and Leah made that possible without damaging my hair, telling me step by step on what she's doing and what she's applying to my hair. Also, she gives me some home treatment advice on how to care for my hair so it doesn't damage or have breakage. The conversations are literally the best when I'm in her chair as well. I came in Mia Bella asking for a full balayage and I showed the hair stylist the picture that I want (the end is light blonde). After 3 hours, I ended up getting nothing change on my hair but just a little bit blonder. It is definitely not worth the money I paid for. I was hoping for a change in my hair color but I was very disappointed with their services. They told me to use the purple shampoo to lighten up the color, but I think it is just an excuse for their bad service.
